DAO was worth $100 easy.  The Amount of content they had was stunning.

This.

I have always maintained that  most  video games are remarkably  dirt cheap for the value and content they give you. DA:O is a fine example.  I managed to extract almost 1000 hours of fun from that game over the course of 2-3 years.    Would $80 be fair for a game like that?    At Least!

Hell,   when I think back on Baldur's gate 2....  I played that game over and over for more than a DECADE.  It's lasted me longer than my last 2 Cars.  I paid $60 for it  (collectors edition) when it first came out.  Had I known  then what I know now, I wouldn't have hesitated in paying $1000 for it.  Because that's what t that game is worth to me.

I suppose the problem here, though, is that  such value judgements are based on Hindsight, which we don't have before deciding to buy a game.  And what happens if we pay $100 for a game and it ends up being so terrible that we quit playing it after a few hours?  Yeah,  THAT'S when the higher price tag becomes painful.  But that's Buyer's Remorse.  Part of life.

By the same logic of this ignorant rumor we should all already be paying $100 for games because Australians do.

Directly translating prices between countries doesn't work.  The UK price means absolutely nothing for the US price.

Brits should probably worry right now, but Americans shouldn't, and you certainly shouldn't be jumping to conclusions and already stirring up a **** storm over it.  So far, EA already has BF4 priced at $60 for next gen, meaning so far all the evidence points to the contrary of this rumor, at least for US.

tl;dr bad rumor is bad.

You forget that prices in the UK are a damn sight more expensive than they are in the US. $80 dollars to buy a game?  We can't even fill the tank of the average car with that, so for us to only have to pay an extra £2 (or $3.11) for a next gen game is something I can quite happily live with.

Assuming of course the rumour is true.

80 dollars... 60 dollars is already a GREAT deal of money for me; I'm at the point where I buy maybe 3 games a year. (And I only bought one game this year full price.) If it's at 80 dollars, that will drop to 1-2.

p.s. And I'm not a kid or a part-timer; I have a full-time job.

If you are not "I have to play it right away", I would suggest you to wait till the end of year (around Christmas time) to buy games. A lot of game stores have sale during that time (Steam sale too) and you can get good games for ridiculous price. Of course newly released game can still be around $40 easily, but if you wait a year or so, the price will drop. 1 or 2 year old games are quite cheap, it's possible that you might get them for under $10 each during end year sale. Last christmas I got 10+ games while only spent around $60 - $70 like that.

If this game is 80 bucks than I'm waiting for a sale, BioWare has made too many bad games recently for me to pay $80, $60 is already pushing it.

I would prefer not to pay $80 but when I think about how many hours I played the other two games - odds are I'll play the heck out of DAI, The cost per hour drops into petty change. Compared to other mediums - it is still one of the cheapest forms of entertainment going right now.

Much too expensive. The game industry needs to understand that AAA titles aren't competing against other AAA titles. They are competing against recent titles available for $40, classic games you can buy for under $10, mobile games.

Heck after how bad BW's recent games have been I'd say the toughest competition is video captures of their games on Youtube. And since Xbox One is offering vidcapture and posting to their own social video site, this will be even easier in the future.

I paid $80 for pre-order of ME3, and was greatly disappointed. I sure got more value watching the good bits of Citadel DLC on youtube than paying another $15 on XBL.

I played DA: Origins for at least a year with multiple characters that I took from level one to the end of the game.
I played DA 2 for at least a year with multiple characters that I took from level one to the end of the game.
Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3: ditto
Oblivion: ditto
Skyrim: ditto

I bought all the DLCs for all the above games (except Oblivion). Even with all the extras, my per hour cost is still under $1.00 per hour, way under $1.00 per hour. Even when you figure in the hardware, video gaming is still one of the least expensive forms of entertainment on the planet. So, yeah, I will pay $80.00.

Lol of course, EA says no more online passes but jacks up the price of all their games, classic. I guess you can't really be too surprised.

There are games that I more than got my money's worth out of, and would have even if they were $80.00. DA:O Origins and ME1 if we're talking Bioware games.

Then there are games that I didn't get close to my money's worth, even if they had cost $20. DA2 and ME3 if we're talking Bioware games.

Seeing that the latter two are the last two I played this game wasn't going to be day 1 buy at $60, let alone $80. This game better be raved as the 2nd coming for me to spend that kind of money on it.

How in the world did you manage that? I can understand the other games...but I did 3 and I had to force myself at the end of the 3rd one. The game has great combat but no depth...origins is the reverse. The recyled content in DA2 did not help.

I'm willing to pay 80...only if we do not get nickle and dimed with DLC.

All ME3 dlc was great EXCEPT Omega...15 bucks for a GRAND TOTAL OF THREE HOURS!?

Bull****.

Buying or not buying the game at $80 is a choice. Some gamers will pay the $80 because they felt they got their money's worth with the other games. Other gamers will wait for the price to drop and some will not buy it at all.

I got my money's worth from DA2 and DAO so I will be buyiny the Collector's or Signature edition.

For the record I have thirteen wardens from start to finish and fifteen Hawkes from start to finish. I will not tell you the number of other characters I have in different games from start to finish, but I am working on number three for Kingdoms of Amalur.
