So, with the confirmation that we get multiple races and the protagonist being voiced, does that mean the same voice overs will be used for all races?

Yeah, I would like to know the answer to that as well.
If they have different voice actors for different races AND different tonalities, then I'll be replaying that game to death. (either mine or that of my computer)

We're only talking about things that are directly covered in the GI article, sorry.

Can you at least say whether the game is a true "open world" or 'semi-open' world?

They answered this a few months ago. I don't have a source for you, but there are open environments that are separated from one another. It won't be one large sandbox.

I'm not sure I'm reading this right. It sounds like the race selection is replacing background selection, but it also sounds like background selection is being replaced by something more nuanced.
Are selectable backgrounds out entirely?

Yes, selectable backgrounds are out entirely. Seeing as we never went into detail as to what that entailed, it shouldn't be a hardship-- what exists now is race/class choice, and reactivity to that, with some added nuance I mentioned but won't get into (but which also provides reactivity).

So... forgive me if this has been covered, but does that mean that your race will affect your class? Maybe something like an elf mage would have abilities as say, a Keeper, that wouldn't be available to a human mage? Or something. I'm thinking aloud (a-text?).

This makes me wonder whether there've been any changes to the the origins also - will they be playable now, will there be more to allow variety for different races?

The race/class selection replaces the plans for different backgrounds we'd mentioned earlier. There's slightly more nuance to it, but it's not quite the same thing.

I'm actually kind of disappointed in this.  Was looking forward to trying out different types of humans.

Ah, well.

Hope you all enjoy this little nugget of news :)

Unfortunately, after the disastrous job you did with Dragon Age 2 there is no piece of news you can offer that will make me trust you again.

If I ever get Inquisition, it won't be a new copy. You burned that bridge.

That would be a giant waste of resources, when one voice would be fine across the board. (Sorry, I realize you'd be pumped about the idea, but hiring six or more actors to read the same lines would not be a very fiscally responsible way of spreading the resources).

Holy **** DA3 looks pretty.

And from the little gameplay bits I saw in that inspiring video on GI, it looks more like Dragon's Dogma than Skyrim or The Witcher. I am not against that. At all. Maybe there will be a choice between playing it party style (like Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate) and having your companions run by AI like Dragon's Dogma? I don't know. I don't care really. The game looks gorgeous. ****ing gorgeous.

I squee'd a little at the Warden Armour I spotted too. HNNNGG

Oh god, I've watched this ten times now squeeing and bouncing and suddenly I realized that there is a compass and no minimap. PLEASE put a minimap in the game even if it's just optional. Sweet Jesus, please. I have bad motion sickness and a terrible sense of direction and without a minimap to orient myself I just turn in circles and then throw up.

....Pre-alpha thing? Maybe the creators and such don't need the minimap...uh, I'm sure it'll be fine. I have the same problem with games like that and first player games. Don't worry I'm sure it'll be fine.

And yet, you're in an Inquisition forum discussing Inquisition news.

No need to take your opinion about the game seriously, then.

You're conflating classes with specializations.

Looks most promising. Let's see if they really did learn from DAO and DAII. Looking more and more forward to see more of it.

It's great we have the option to chose our race, that being said will The qunari be in that list?
Any chance of a different pet (griffin please)? or are we still stuck with good ol' Fido?
Will we have the option of cross-class skils/specializations (arcane warrior)?

No need to take your opinion about anything seriously. I was already a member of this forum, it takes virtually no effort to be here. If you think it does, it says more about you than it does me and I pity you.

Yes, selectable backgrounds are out entirely.

This means one of two things.

Either there are no set backgrounds at all (Blank Slate character), or each race&class combination has a pre-written background we can't change.

We all know which one I would prefer.

If there are horses and playable races, then dwarves are supposed to get PONIES? :o

I think your suggestion on the matter that was previously suggested of having one background option being NO background is still a perfectly valid solution. You can just be an elf, dwarf or human who just showed up to the party with no background at all (or, at least, no game-defined background).

Yes, but David says no selectable backgrounds. So whichever one the writers chose in the one we get.

I hope they chose a Blank Slate.

You sound like a petulant child. Watch the info feeds and make an informed decision based off of what you see, not the past. They have been listening and they are trying, if you don't like it don't buy it, but leave your toxic comments about disliking past games in your own pity party forum.

So does that mean elven warriors get...Halla???? Oh that would be awesome! But mabari chariots? Not as likely I think, mabari are too smart stick to brontos. Tamable wyverns are something we've seen as well right?

I must have missed something... Why is everybody cheering like a schoolgirl and thanking BioWare?
All I could make out of that footage is that it looks pretty good (no surprise there with Frostbite) and that it has horses (it's not like that is some kind of revolution).

Maybe because everyone has been clamoring for info for months? We have our first gameplay, which for pre-alpha looks amazing, we have confirmation that multiple playable races are returning (something everyone here has been begging for), and footage from the pre-alpha shows that BioWare is certainly changing what Dragon Age could be. Free-roaming, somewhat open world (from what we can tell), and a combat system made from the ground-up.

If you're a Dragon Age fan, there is nothing to not be excited about. Though as an individual, if you aren't excited, that's perfectly fine. But the way you word your post, not everyone will or should have the same disposition as you, nor is your disposition the "right or wrong" one.

It's not surprise the game looks decent with Frostbite (I can create what they showed there myself actually if I had the engine), I never played multiple races and never considered it a big feature, and a bit free-raoming is hinted with the implementation of horses which is indeed somewhat good news.

I don't really think there was enough that would make me jump at the ceiling like that, but I guess that's just the BioWare fanbase: hating on everything, saying they have the lowest expectations, never gonna buy a game again, but when they see pre-alpha footage of next to nothing, they throw all their money at the screen and scream out of maximum excitement. Happened with everything since I joined this forum.

The video mentions an aim to make the player feel like they are growing their organization as well as the group of companions we are used to acquiring.

I would like to know if we can expect this to be reflected in the 'player housing' element of the game i.e party camp, companion houses etc. Will a part of this organization involve building up say our own settlement like a castle or even a small town/city like we sort of did with Vigil's Keep?

I understand if this can't be revealed yet.

I prefer at least *some* material on the player's background, even if it's as simple as "grew up in Candlekeep." I don't really want to play the mysterious stranger who just shows up in town one day.

I would be satisfied with just being able to pick some dialog options in which I can fill in my characters background as well. I'm okay with inventing my own background. I just want the background (mine or Bioware's) to show up in the game verbally somewhere. I don't want it to exist 100% in my imagination.
