The video mentions an aim to make the player feel like they are growing their organization as well as the group of companions we are used to acquiring.

I would like to know if we can expect this to be reflected in the 'player housing' element of the game i.e party camp, companion houses etc. Will a part of this organization involve building up say our own settlement like a castle or even a small town/city like we sort of did with Vigil's Keep?

I understand if this can't be revealed yet.

They told us we should be able to have a castle of our own (maybe the one we saw on mountains in a concept art).

Oh, nice! yes that castle does look like a good contender.

In that case then, I wonder how our player house base could possibly aid us in growing organization? I'd like to ask other things like how much we can actually do with the player housing element of the game but I fear this is straying away from the video content a little...

Wonder how much we can customize our castle if we are really getting one...

I prefer at least *some* material on the player's background, even if it's as simple as "grew up in Candlekeep." I don't really want to play the mysterious stranger who just shows up in town one day.

I would be satisfied with just being able to pick some dialog options in which I can fill in my characters background as well. I'm okay with inventing my own background. I just want the background (mine or Bioware's) to show up in the game verbally somewhere. I don't want it to exist 100% in my imagination.

I just don't want the background to be so detailed that it limits my character design. I'd like the game to start with my character in some location, and have me decide how and why he got there.

In NWN, the PC starts as a student at the Academy, but the player gets to decide where the character was from before that, and why the character is at the Academy, and even what level the character is at the start of the game. That's the gold standard for backgrounds in BioWare games, I think.

My concern is mostly with actually seeing the effects of my character design acknowledged in the game world in some way.  Ideally, we'd have some system in which multiple and diverse designs were possible and those designs would have verbal impact even if the verbal impact was relatively minor.

I figure Dwarves would ride brontos.

As for horse-riding, I have trepidation about that. Skyrim has shown me that third person horseback riding makes me horribly motion sick.

You know what constantly grinds my gears? No one's doing first person horse back riding.

Last time I saw it was Fable:The Journey, but I'd rather see it in something like a DA or TES.

Oblivion had first person horse riding, and I had no issue with it. The fact that Skyrim got rid of it was anoying. Hopefully Bioware makes it so that it isn't too bad; I imagine one of the big problems for me in Skyrim was that the camera kept bobbing up and down with each clop of hoofs.

On an unrelated note, I'm very intrested in eventually learning when and why Varric and Cassandra apparently decided to team up.

Skyrim was my first TES game(which I got directly as a result of DA2 being less than what I felt it should've been/what I wanted it to be). So I feel like it would be really nice to have that back, if it was indeed in previous games.

But yeah, I'm just glad horseback riding is in DA at all. If you can ALSO make it first person, then I'm REALLY sold.

Very, very good news. I can finally play as a dwarf again, instead of that inferior human race! My beard will flap in the winds of glory!

I think your suggestion on the matter that was previously suggested of having one background option being NO background is still a perfectly valid solution. You can just be an elf, dwarf or human who just showed up to the party with no background at all (or, at least, no game-defined background).

That is fine as long as the world notices the difference on which race and class you play and acts accordingly.

Also this.

I wonder how much companions we will have if the main base is an castle. I didn't liked the ME3 approach of less companions for more interactions. Here I'm hoping we can have both in Inquisition.

All right, who pushed for multiple player races and made sure they made it into the game? Who's responsible? I need to know so I can send virtual hugs and whisper sweet nothings on twitter.

(seriously though, this is absolutely wonderful news)

I just knew they were going to bring back race selection with the added time given to development. I am so delighted. Yay, I can play a dwarfette again! Only thing better than my dwarfette would be a female Tal Vashoth, but that is just getting too greedy.:)

The dwarves look good, as well.  It's very nice to see a move back toward a less stylised art style.

Can I just say that I hope there's one VA for each gender across all races? Otherwise, that's a LOT of redundancy for lines that could have been devoted to, say, party banter.

I like that in Skyrim, guards will comment on your use of magic(with different lines depending on what type you favor), your favored weapon, what guilds you were a part of, etc etc.

Though Skyrim is a bit odd in this respect, as the guards will react to what skills you have, not what skills they've seen you use.  They'll say "Hands to yourself, sneak thief," even if you've never used those skills in any city before.

Aye, but I think it'd be a bit difficult for devs to go into that much detail, having guards/civilians remembering what you did specifically in front of them. I just like to think they heard about it from other holds.

It really isn't.  It's two if-then flags.  Think of it like how games react if you steal in front of a guard, or walk into a region that activates a trigger.

You have a radius region around guards, and if the MC uses a skill or has a weapon equipped while in that radius, the guard can set "saw MC use sneak skill = true" and now that flag is triggered, or the boolean variable is set, or however you code it.

These things are really not rocket science.  They aren't even much past Programming 101 for Computer Science.
