Yes, selectable backgrounds are out entirely. Seeing as we never went into detail as to what that entailed, it shouldn't be a hardship-- what exists now is race/class choice, and reactivity to that, with some added nuance I mentioned but won't get into (but which also provides reactivity).

It sounds like it will be a LOT like Origins, then, since your race/class largely determined your Origin--and did entirely if you chose to play human.

Is there the slightest possibility there may be other race options besides human/elf/dwarf?

It's a little unfortunate though that the team's restricted by current gen consoles. This means they have to keep these ancient systems in mind when designing the world and the interactivity in the world. Part of the big reason CD Projekt RED is focused 100% on PS4/Xbox One/PC only.

Multiple races being confirmed is just incredible. I have to say THANK YOU to the everyone on the team for reimplementing this feature into the series.

I am filled with a desire to throw money at Bioware, but since i cant preorder yet ill just spend the next year convincing my gaming buddies to buy the game.

This has nothing to do with making the game "shinier" or just have prettier visuals. There is a fundamental, enormous advantage that the next gen consoles can leverage over a PS3 or 360. That is why developers like CD Projekt RED are only releasing Witcher 3 on PS4/Xbox One and PC. The technical limitations of old hardware will limit what scope devs can carry out for their vision of their games. This is not an opinion, it's fact.

The size and scope of the world, interactivity within that world, amount of quests/amount of dialogue, the dynamism of the world and the quests themselves, etc will no doubt be restricted to what the 360/PS3 can handle, so players will get the same experience across all platforms. It's nothing personal, this is just the reality of the situation.

Except the devs will be more experienced with the old hardware thus able to utilize it more efficiently.

Ok all this stuff is awesome but did the article or someone say you can choose your own name? Please for the love of god let the characters have a surname that's interchangeable with the title Inquistor. I like choosing my first name but I don't want to go back to Origins "you" and "warden" every other line. Especially with a voice protagonist being confirmed, it's super awkward being referred to as "you" every other line.

and how do you suggest they do that, given that you can pick 3 different races? Or PC of all 3 races should have same surname? That doesnt seem right to me.
