I hope the dwarven PC is able to point out that they were, in fact, right all along and that the sky is very dangerous.

Props, I didn't even think of that.

and how do you suggest they do that, given that you can pick 3 different races? Or PC of all 3 races should have same surname? That doesnt seem right to me.

Human surname.  Elf and Dwarf were raised by Humans.  Also would explain singular VO/accent.

I wonder which writer is primarily working on Vivienne. I think she could be interesting, and it's fun to know writer assignments.

Also, you know what I miss? The food comparisons of the companions in Origins. Somebody asked what food the characters would be. For instance, Morrigan was bitter and dark chocolate and Wynne was oatmeal stuffed with nuts and berries.

I'm truly happy to hear this news more than you imagined.

Race choices and dialogue changes based on those choices makes me smile. Hopefully the game continues down the road of choices rather then the straight line of DA2.

OMG. Just needed to drop in to say so excited! And that the information released "sooner than this year" is great for keeping hype and interest in the game, imo. Also that I believe it to be a great opportunity you've given Game Informer as I intend to buy a copy of this issue when I've never bought one of their products before. Dwarves!!!!!!!

Yes, selectable backgrounds are out entirely. Seeing as we never went into detail as to what that entailed, it shouldn't be a hardship-- what exists now is race/class choice, and reactivity to that, with some added nuance I mentioned but won't get into (but which also provides reactivity).

It sounds like it will be a LOT like Origins, then, since your race/class largely determined your Origin--and did entirely if you chose to play human.

Is there the slightest possibility there may be other race options besides human/elf/dwarf?

The-race-that-makes-up-the-majority-of-the-Qunari-but-we-can't-call-"kossith" seem like they might be able to be added in, a "yes or no" wasn't really given, it was more of a "the three are definite, not sure if we're doing qunari". It sounded like it may be something they will work on if they have time.

It wasn't optional in ME3. The Galactic Readiness rating required playing MP in order to raise it. Without a high Galactic Readiness rating, you could have every single War Asset available in SP and not get the "ideal" ending.

That's something that needs to be avoided at all costs in any future game that contains a MP element that can affect the SP.

Not true. I didn't play MP at all and got the "ideal" ending. MP was not required at all, it was just a simple way of supplementing sidequests in SP. I did all the sidequests in ME3 and got the perfect endings.

I typed up a summary:

Wow.

Honestly, I was so turned off by DA2 that I was pretty certain I'd never pre-order again. Since then I've been fairly pessimistic about DA:I with what few tidbits of info we had.

However, after seeing this and the dev responses in the thread, I have definitely become cautiously optimistic. Voiced protagonist and dialogue wheel are here to stay, it seems, but I'm pleased with the direction of several other things. Having multiple races back is huge for me, as is player and companion customization. PC optimization is great, also.

Now if only you'd throw in a toolset I daresay you'd have a guaranteed pre-order.

Guys, the subject is getting a little off topic. But what he means is the "ideal ending" is the High EMS Destroy that has Shepard taking a breath after the credits.

That initially required 5,000 total EMS to achieve- which was impossible without multiplayer.

They lowered that via the Extended Cut DLC I believe to 4,100, which is achievable without multiplayer. Also, DLC releases like Leviathan and Omega added significant amounts to EMS, making multiplayer even less of a necessity for players that skip some content.

All that said, I'd hope Bioware does NOT include any sort of multiplayer into DA:I. Or if they do, they put it on a separate disk. If thats too costly, instead have people purchase the single player game and have that come with a download for a multiplayer mode only acquired by purchasing the main game, or purchased separately for a lower price.

Huh. That just came out of my head right now and I kinda like that idea if it keeps SP and MP separated.

I wonder how the horses will work. Oblivion tried that a few years ago and IMO it wasn't a resounding success because of control issues. It#s really nice to see it attempted again, though. I hope it will work better in DAI.

So did Harvest Moon, and it worked just fine. Horses tend to be an issue with first player controls, they're much less of a hassle in third players games, luckily for us, DA:I is the later rather than the foremer.

Why can't people just not play it if they don't like it. Really , it's just that simple. If you don't play it does not effect your game.
Why make a fuss over it?

Don't care. I think the main focus should be the make the game as good as possible overall and not the make people who spend more money on new/higher end systems feel justified in their purchase. And yes, I've preordered a PS4. If they *can* make the next gen version shinier without having to divert lots of resources to do so, it's fine, but it should be much lower on their pirority list than general story/character/combat/lore development.

This has nothing to do with making the game "shinier" or just have prettier visuals. There is a fundamental, enormous advantage that the next gen consoles can leverage over a PS3 or 360. That is why developers like CD Projekt RED are only releasing Witcher 3 on PS4/Xbox One and PC. The technical limitations of old hardware will limit what scope devs can carry out for their vision of their games. This is not an opinion, it's fact.

The size and scope of the world, interactivity within that world, amount of quests/amount of dialogue, the dynamism of the world and the quests themselves, etc will no doubt be restricted to what the 360/PS3 can handle, so players will get the same experience across all platforms. It's nothing personal, this is just the reality of the situation.

Except the devs will be more experienced with the old hardware thus able to utilize it more efficiently.

There is a limit to how much "efficiency" developers can get from 7-8 year old hardware. They can't just pull performance out of their rear. This is the reason why developer like CDPR are foregoing current gen systems altogether and making Witcher 3 a next gen exclusive. There comes a point where experience with these systems will amount to almost insignificant advancements.

First real info, and must say so far so good. Game us still a year away, so not going to get too far ahead of myself. But I'm intrigued by what has been shown so far.

This means one of two things.

Either there are no set backgrounds at all (Blank Slate character), or each race&class combination has a pre-written background we can't change.

We all know which one I would prefer.

Yes, but Bioware is likely to do fixed backgrounds for each.

Bioware does listen. They always listen.

They probably heard me shower a few hours ago.

People need to learn the difference between, "not listening/not taking fan feedback" and "listening/taking fan feedback and using it to influence their choices regarding their products, whether what fans expect is included or not"

I'm glad that some things I wanted out of a new DA are coming my way, unless unforeseen actions cause changes in the plans, for example the entire Dragon Age team getting absolutely plastered on Ommegang's Game of Thrones Take The Black Stout that comes out in late September.

Speaking of, would be cool if Bioware talked to good ol Dr. Greg about contacting the right people to make a deal similar to Ommegang/HBO's so we can have Dragon Age ales being made and sold.

I'd buy them.

You realize most  early games on new consoles are usualy full of glitches and poorly optimized because the devs haven't had the time to get familiar with the new hardware right?

It usually takes 2-3 years for a new console to get good games.

Gah, I hated the horses with a passion in that game.  Fricken rattlesnake would kill them in one hit, I always accidentally shoot them when firing my rifle, and they would always run off once I dismount.

BTW....

Will companions be able to use mounts as well? I hated how none my followers could use one in Skyrim.

Poor you, that sucks. I always heard about rattlesnakes but not even once even saw one. Didn't bother my horse OR me. Guess I was lucky.

Speaking of which-

No rattlesnakes biting our horses in DA:I plox
