Can you imagine how emotional it would be if your horse was riddled with arrows while carrying you to safety before dying?

So people would feel bad if their horse died, huh?

Interesting.

I don't care. Kill all the horses. I want a dragon mount.

But dragon meat taste horrible....

I'll use my pet dragon to roast horses for my party. Nice and crispy.

Aye, and just to show the people at BioWare how completely obsessed I am with this notion, I have come up with ideas on how to make that possible from a gameplay and story perspective.

Ok, gameplay wise, we can have a massive optional boss to fight (like Yizamat from Final Fantasy XII, you know the one with a numerical HP count of 50.000.000) and story wise, when the boss reaches 1HP, instead of loot, you can have your mage enslav.... eh, I mean charm him into becoming our imprisoned... I mean faithful steed.

Please BioWare :innocent:

Well maybe not quite that far but it would surely be a thought in my mind.

I'm sure Mr. Hudson was just there for moral support and to emphasize the solidarity of BioWare as a company. I think he is busy working on a super secret new IP or something, isn't he?

Yes.

I'm now going to cry buckets when the Inquisitor acquires the horse, strokes its nose fondly, and watch in its eyes as it sees all the good times they'll have together throughout the hard years ahead.

Because now we all know what's going to happen. :crying:

I always get more upset over animal death than human death.

Don't know why, really.

But Stephen King says that killing an animal for no reason is shorthand for showing that a character is "irredeemably evil".

So now that race selection is back in the picture, is there any chance we will get a toolset or playable origins?

It would be pretty nice to have those back as well. I still mod my Dragon Age:Origins game from time to time.

You've either forgotten or never seen The Neverending Story, with Artax dying in the Swamp of Sadness. ;_;

A lot of interesting (and mostly good) stuff in that interview too. Thanks. :)

I may be in the minority but I would love it if David Gaider and fellow writers could put the most bittersweet / depressing / heart-breaking things they could imagine into Dragon Age: Inquisition. =]

As horrible as it is I'm actually starting to like the idea too.

The player, badly wounded from several arrows, drifts in and out of consciousness, and your horse shifts, shielding him/her with its own body, taking several arrows to the flank and neck before collapsing behind cover, one last huff escaping its lungs while the wounded but alive Inquisitor strokes its mane affectionately, before the screen fades to black.

/insert guitar pluck

RIP Inquisithorse

I'm impressed. I was initially confused as to why Bioware suddenly needed another year to release the game. I get it now. And reading that article...if it takes another year to truly capture everything they mentioned, then take the year.

Race selection is a bonus, but that's not really the selling point for me. It's the scope. My only hope is that they don't lose track of what makes Bioware special, which is a strong narrative and the ability to have complex relationships with well written companions. If they can blend that expansive world exploration with a strong narrative that doesn't lose the story (Skyrim), this could be an excellent RPG.

The combat sounds...challenging. Especially with the no health regen and running into baddies who aren't level with you. The older I get, the worse I seem to get at actual gameplay. I'm a story guy, first and foremost. Wandering aimlessly fighting monsters grows tiresome. I like to see character growth, plot twists, and a story to emotionally engage in. I hope there are some alternatives to just storming castles, like using dialogue or sneaking. But I digress.

As for having Varric back? YES! Although it will feel a bit weird having Hawke's buddy hanging out with some other dude, although potentially funny if you are a dwarf. I'm thinking surface dwarf. I don't see why the dwarves of Orzamaar would care about Thedas politics or even the Veil splitting. Blights are one thing. And female dwarves? Whaddya know. They're back. I'm up for more Cassandra as well. And this Vivienne character looks great. (A woman of color in Thedas? Finally!) If I have one hope...I just want one scene with Varric and Oghren together. And cameos. If we're gathering a group of powerful folks to join our Inquisition, I'm sure Alistair, Sten and the Qunari, Zevran and his Crows would be welcome. And it never hurts having a pirate on your side.

Darrah mentioned going from Eastern Ferelden to Western Orlais. Hope we get to stop in the Free Marches for a spell.

Seems like EA opened up the purse strings a bit. Seems like a lot of stuff that was earlier mentioned as unattainable because of resources and time are now doable. So I haven't given up hope that Hawke could show up. Or even the Warden. (Although, I have a weird feeling our Morrigan may be up to no good and a certain Warden may have gotten a murder knife to the back.)

Overall, I'm exhausted at digesting all of this awesomeness. Have to remember it's still a whole year away....

It sounds terribly cheap, to be honest.

There better be more to it than simply slaughtering a helpless animal to elicit an undeserved emotional response.

I think, because (domestic)-animals are the best and most loyal companions, friends. They never betray or dissappoint you in bad faith.
And in general, animals do have a health enhancing and anti-depressive effect on most humans.
