Are you saying we can play an elf or a dwarf in DAI for single player?

Yes.

I notice that the lady defaults of each race are all quite pretty, but the guys are lacking in comparison (mostly the human). If you can give an answer this early, is there a wide range of customization options so we can make each gender as repulsive or attractive as each other? For example, like Dragon's Dogma's incredibly in-depth system? I'd like to make a ridiculously handsome Inquisitor for one of my playthroughs.

The elves look like they've been balanced between Origins' and DA2's looks, they look fantastic, as do the character models in general!

On a happier, non-horse death related note, I have been over the moon about race choices returning all day.

I fully understood that there were reasons we could only play human in DA2, and I'd resigned myself to never playing a dwarf again. Since only 5% of players ever did that in DAO, I couldn't blame BioWare for deciding to direct their zots somewhere else, no matter how much I loved my dwarf Wardens. So it's a glorious surprise to have it back. The extra development time is well worth it just for that, in my opinion, although of course the mounts and whatever else is going to be added will be nifty, too. (As long as all the horses/brontos/halla/mabari/sparkling alicorns live through the game.) The footage and screen shots look fabulous, especially given that this is pre-alpha!

Also: do we know if Vivienne is a human or an elf yet? (I guess we can't rule out her being a tall mutant dwarf, either ...)

Can you imagine how emotional it would be if your horse was riddled with arrows while carrying you to safety before dying?

So people would feel bad if their horse died, huh?

Interesting.

I hope they will talk about the tone of the game and its story at some point during this coverage. DA2 had a tendency to become too lighthearted to my taste.

Lighthearted? A qunari invasion followed by the templar/mage conflict ripping the city apart, and you in the middle of it? Family members dying from darkspawn, murdered or being taken away?

If that's your idea of lighthearted, I don't want to you see your "dark". In ME3, I often felt as if everything was going to hell in a basket. I don't want to feel that way in DAI.

I need to stress that I am talking about the tone. Not what actually happens, because sure there is some tragic stuff going on, but it was all left with little emotional impact because of the overall tone of the game. Most of the companions would go around telling jokes or behave in a comedic kind of way. The art was very uplifting, bright and even straight up ridiculous with oversized weapons. The music was also very lighthearted. And the combat was pretty silly to look at. It is kind of like the movie Jumanji. Everytime something might have been a little scary it is quickly followed by something that lightens up the mood.

So that is what I would like some information on, in regards to how that will be in the next game.

Oh my.

I'm still pissed that I can't play with my Warden back, but I got over that a long time ago, and now more than ever.

Okay, this is definitely keeping me very intrigued; Excited for the game/more info now.

The camera's in a constant state of change. I expect it'll continue to change as they tweak it to find the sweet spot.

I humbly suggest they should let us pin it where we like.

And roam.

Indeed.  I have always maintained that  Step 1 of truly tactical party based combat was a fully  free camera view.  And if  not that, then at least give us something resembling Iso-top down.... you know, so we can actually see exactly  who's going to be in our Fireball's Area of effect.

Question about horses/malibari:

Are we going to see them more like DA:O where they are their own companion, or DA 2 where it is just a "summon pet" power?

I personally hope it is a combination of the two; I really enjoyed being able to level up and customize my dog in Origins, but didn't like how it would take up a companion slot.

In the video, there is clearly a more isometric view than before (in Da2), but I'm expecting them to keep messing around with it. They did say the PC version would be optimized though, so I'm expecting Isometric view to be one of the perks of the PC version.

I'm gonna make Varric admit the Inquisitor is > to Hawke.

I will.

I don't think it will be that tough to do that :P

You lead the Inquisition, which is like..... the MI6 of Thedas! B)

It's pretty obvious that the inquisitor is gonna be a bigger badass than The Warden or Hawke. So no surprise there. B)

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but from the video, I get a very "Risen 2" vibe out of the graphical look/style of the game.

Anyone else feels it?

I am in agreement with this; some of dialogue options to the really sinister situations tended to be a bit too light. The option to be humourous after your mother died? The most heartfelt comment from my companions was the one I heard from Sebastian who said in a truly compassionate voice, "I'm sorry about your mother, Hawke. I've put a remembrance for her on the Chantry's memorial wall", and he's a DLC.
Perhaps I'm just too sensitive and involved but I really like that I can feel my companions care for me. This includes hugs, reassuring hands on shoulders and comforting beers at the Hanged Man or at whichever new tavern we'll sit and drink ourselves into a drunken stupor.

BioWare is all about the cinematic storytelling, so yes, the main character will be voiced.

It would be a huge design philosophy shift for BioWare to suddenly go back to silent PC. It'd be almost as big as them doing away with companions.

Looks like we are going to have horses... mountable horses... that is also quite a change in design philosophy.

So now we HAVE to fight the Chantry and we get a very pro-mage companion to start and no one to give the pro Templar view?

This game is fail and I will not waste my money on it, I hope you pro-mage fans are happy your whining has worked congrats.

Biowear have some gore-an faith your story don't some internet extremist fans push you around. Do you own thing.

What pro-mage companion? Cassandra is a chantry loyalists, Varric considered himself neutral in DA2 and this Vivienne women are pro-Circle, as in, wants the circles to continue, so pretty much pro-templars.

Chanrty loyalist is anti-templar, given the traitor Devines actions.

Are you sure that's what they mean? I thought they had her as a pro-mage, also where did you get that?

I guess that is an equally valid interpretation. We might need more info before we can pin here down. And according to the wiki Casandra harbors "a hatred for all mages - maleficar or not".

I'm really thrilled with the choice of races being returned to us, oh and I love the idea of having a horse to ride too! I wonder will we get our dog or a wolf companion...

I noticed some blue skies and bright light in the wee video, I'm really pleased as I really enjoy playing in games with bright and sunny weather, its so dark and gloomy here in Ireland most of the time.

Well I'm back to being excited about DAI. :D

Man I did not think it is possible but the infos so far are sounding really good. Looks like you guys really did listen to a lot of comments. Respect for that first of all. It will be interesting how this will end and I can not wait to see actual PC combat footage^^

As for the classes: Is ist possible to unlock more specialisations like in Origins or willit only be 3 Classes? Is there any choice in between?

Pity all the horses in DAI, they get stabbed every time people who carry swords at their back sit on them.

Its very clear when reading the article (by examples they give) that what they meant by "Pro-circle" is actually "Pro-mage." They give the example of  if you think all mages are dangerous and going to erupt violently then you may not get along well with Vivienne.

Gah, too much bitter and dark in DA.

How about a quest where we FEED our horses? Wash them? Brush them till they love us some more?

I suddenly have this adorable image of our great, big, hulking qunari companion holding a teeny tiny brush and brushing the mane of my inquisitor's pony .

Not quite qunari, but he would be if he was on Thedas.

Still though, Fluttershy is Varric's.
