I remember seeing something about there being Family names, so maybe like DA: Origins, each race will have a last name?

Allan can we pls name our Horse

Biowar pls

Rather than having our mount be some random mount we purchased for the time being?

Shadowmare must be brought into Dragon Age :bandit:

Ahem. Shadowmere.

Though yeah, she's a mare. Mares>Stallions

Nope, sorry, wrong, Shadowmere is actually a stallion. Don't let the name fool you.

Nah brah, mare.

Mares are best horses

Mares for DA:I

No sorry, but Shadowmere is definitely a stallion in Skyrim. A different horse in Oblivion, also named Shadowmere, is a mare.

Also;

Stallion riders > mare riders.

Shadowmere's both. She's a Daedra.
(There are even theories she might be a manifestation of Sithis, but let's not get into that.)
However, Astrid, who refers to the horse as a he in Skyrim, has also shown that she doesn't know all that much about the Dark Brotherhood, having abandoned the tenets -- I've always gone with what Lucien, a Listener, said, and referred to Shadowmere as a mare. However, the beast is likely both or neither, and appears to also be a shapeshifter (again, Daedra).

But anyway, back on topic. Who cares what gender the horses in Inquisition are? A horse is a horse either way, though stallions are harder control in general (?) but hey they're all different. I'd prefer to have both, that meaning double the models for the mounts however.
What I'd like more is a selection of breeds, if we can get them. Say, a regular stockhorse like we saw in the little snippets of gameplay, as well as the choice of a big bulky draught or even a pony, mule, etc.
I can't remember a game that genders the horses -- they're all neutral. Even geldings still have bits left that tell you they're male. Red Dead Redemption had ungendered horses, Skyrim did, I think Oblivion did but it's been a while since I picked up the game, the entire Assassin's Creed series, they're neutral in the new Metal Gear... :P

Its already been confirmed on this forum that each race will have its own names.

We are not stuck to being part of a single family like Hawke.

I wonder if we're still going to get custom default faces (like Hawke), or if now we're going to end up with just the generic presets for each race (like the Warden)?

" the return of multiple player races"

Am I reading this wrong or should I start rejoicing in the streets?

You are not reading that incorrectly.

You have no idea how happy I am when reading this. Goddamit I love you, BioWare!

I asked Mike Laidlaw if we'd be getting one surname like in DA2 or if we could expect multiple based on race like Origins and he said it was the latter.

have they said anything new about specializations and how they'll make a bigger impact story wise?

it would be nice if we could choose a spec at the outset, like Templar or Spirit Healer, and that choice would actually make a difference in our characters background.

Bioware stood their ground fervently on racial choice, and now with the delay made the decision to add them in. Given the cost - at least multiple backgrounds - it seems to me that Bioware is quite serious in recapturing a great deal of DA:O.

In fact, with no health regen, they've gone farther than DA:O did in creating a mechanic similar to BG2. I agree with you entirely that we know far too little at this point, but I would genuinely be surprised if Bioware tracks DA2 closely after retreating from the human-only design choice.

Hasn't it been confirmed that there won't be a set first or last name?

Last name is set depending on race (maybe class as well), first name is yours to choose.

Man, there is potential here for a kind of badassfully-than-ever Suikoden pseudo-sequel. With better squadmates.

Since this is a happy day I'll let this slide.

Poor maps

It's maps or horses.

The chosen one must choose! What do you choose!?

Clothe a horse with maps and stab it whenever it misbehaves.  Stab it in the Ferelden one day, stab it in the Orlais the next.  I'd never stab a horse nor anyone else in the Tevinter.

Will DA3 main chart go by the *surname or be called inquisitor:sick: by everyone also?

I hope is known by surname/last name.:?

If there is a different surname for each race then it's not very likely that she'll be known by that.

I think 'inquisitor' is our best bet.

Epona, heretoforth known as "Pwner", is female.

This is highly relevant.

If you can name your horse in DA:I then I'm definitely gonna name my first horse Epona. All other horses that I'll get after Epona I'm gonna name Roach.

Of course my first player character is gonna be an elf arcane warrior named Link, just like in DA:O.

YES let us have arcane warrior again as a specialization

You can bet they won't refer to you by surname, unless you only get pre-set names instead of making your own.

At most, I can see them referring to you by their last name, but that's a bit of a stretch. It would get awkward fast if everyone decided to call Inquisitor though.

As much as I'd like to get excited about all of this... I sadly remember the hype and misinformation surrounding Mass Effect 3, and how the game didn't even remotely live up to it.

I hope all of this is true... I just have my doubts. Still doesn't change my plan to wait for fan reviews to decide whether or not I'll buy it.

There is an easy way out of the name problem. Make the Inquisitor take a new (random in game but preset in development) new name in the moment he or she takes on the membership in the inquisition Order. That way regardless of player name, class, race and background everyone will call the player character with the same name but there will be no need to record a tone of different voiced dialogue lines to compensate.

You know, Arcian got the "Prothy the Prothean" nickname into ME3. Keep it up folks and I firmly believe there will be a line in Inquisition about the absurdity of mapstabbery.

Which is a word now.

Mapstabbery  LOL

I like it.  We'll go with that.  I'll try to fit it  into the next few conversations I have at work today.

Especially your LI.  Although I do remember Morrigan calling you "Warden" in the first game, even when you were romancing her, and it didn't seem  that strange at all.
