This makes me wonder whether there've been any changes to the the origins also - will they be playable now, will there be more to allow variety for different races?

The race/class selection replaces the plans for different backgrounds we'd mentioned earlier. There's slightly more nuance to it, but it's not quite the same thing.

So will your race affect the story now instead of a background?

I was most interested in being able to pick something unique that makes the story and characters react differently to it.

So.. people won't comment about the PC if she/he is  mage ?

I must have missed something... Why is everybody cheering like a schoolgirl and thanking BioWare?
All I could make out of that footage is that it looks pretty good (no surprise there with Frostbite) and that it has horses (it's not like that is some kind of revolution).

The race selection and horses are obviously going to get the most attention here (given that the horses are entirely new, and BioWare had previously stated that we wouldn't get race selection), but that gameplay footage is what interests me.

I see a player directly controlling a single character, in real time, pressing buttons to trigger individual attacks, in real time.

I very much hope we'll still get move-to-point commands and the option for pausable point&click combat rather than real-time control.

How will that work in terms of accents? Traditionally humans speak with an English or Spanish accent in Thedas, whereas dwarves use American accents and Dalish elves are Welsh since DA2. Are you casting three different actors for the male and female protagonists, respectively?

That's what I've always wondered regarding multiple races and a voiced PC.

Sure, they could wave their hands and use some one size fits all voice, which would be a little annoying, especially when making different characters.

I'm not sure I'm reading this right. It sounds like the race selection is replacing background selection, but it also sounds like background selection is being replaced by something more nuanced.
Are selectable backgrounds out entirely?

Bioware lied to us like Rockstar did with regards to certain features that were(n't) supposed to be in game.

I ain't even mad.

Player races is a direct result of our time extension. If we were still releasing this year or early next year, they wouldn't be in.

Will the PC be voiced?

We still plan to have the PC voiced.

Probably, they did it with The Old Replubic so its possible.

Don't care. I think the main focus should be the make the game as good as possible overall and not the make people who spend more money on new/higher end systems feel justified in their purchase. And yes, I've preordered a PS4. If they *can* make the next gen version shinier without having to divert lots of resources to do so, it's fine, but it should be much lower on their pirority list than general story/character/combat/lore development.

This has nothing to do with making the game "shinier" or just have prettier visuals. There is a fundamental, enormous advantage that the next gen consoles can leverage over a PS3 or 360. That is why developers like CD Projekt RED are only releasing Witcher 3 on PS4/Xbox One and PC. The technical limitations of old hardware will limit what scope devs can carry out for their vision of their games. This is not an opinion, it's fact.

The size and scope of the world, interactivity within that world, amount of quests/amount of dialogue, the dynamism of the world and the quests themselves, etc will no doubt be restricted to what the 360/PS3 can handle, so players will get the same experience across all platforms. It's nothing personal, this is just the reality of the situation.

It is pre-alpha though, we don't know the extant of the control scheme from a few seconds of video sadly.

Move to point is a fair addition though. We shall see if its added.

Yeah. A lot of the things in the video seem interesting but how good the game will actually be once the luster of the fancy visuals wears off is in the systems underlying all of the visuals and how well they hold up.

Combat and party control being a big one. I 'd still want DA to be a party based game where I'm tactically controlling my whole party not just one character and having the AI control everyone else. Hopefully we hear more from BioWare on what they're doing to make DA3 more of a party based game.

TOR was voiced by class and gender only. Race wasn't a factor.

I also wouldn't expect them to be spending nearly as much on this title.

They obviously just don't want to reveal companions yet. Of course it's still a party-based game.

Maybe because everyone has been clamoring for info for months? We have our first gameplay, which for pre-alpha looks amazing, we have confirmation that multiple playable races are returning (something everyone here has been begging for), and footage from the pre-alpha shows that BioWare is certainly changing what Dragon Age could be. Free-roaming, somewhat open world (from what we can tell), and a combat system made from the ground-up.

If you're a Dragon Age fan, there is nothing to not be excited about. Though as an individual, if you aren't excited, that's perfectly fine. But the way you word your post, not everyone will or should have the same disposition as you, nor is your disposition the "right or wrong" one.

Horses - doesn't matter to me, so meh.

Choice of race for MC - this should be standard in a game with multiple races where you make your character, especially a party-based RPG, so going back to this shouldn't be cause for celebration, only a sigh of relief.

You will all have to pardon me if I don't squee. I will give the article a read when I can get access to it, but my skepticism remains extremely high.

Seems like Witcher 2 succes inspired them somehow.
For those (like me) who wanted an old style RPG (more like origins), this sucks, but well. It will probably be a really fun game.

Im literally so giddy and happy at the fact that I can be an elf again! Ugh thank you so much bioware for listening to the fans!& the fact that we can ride horses is much appreciated. The only real thing I'm somewhat worried about is combat but other than that I'm happy. Thank you again bioware <3:lol:

Right, but things like having a isometric or flexible camera for tactical combat would be the kind of thing I'd be looking for. Obviously that video was a tiny snippet of what they're working on, but it also looked very twitch based and Skyrim-esque in terms of being solely in direct control of one person, whether in combat or exploring.
