I think we can safely rule out Alistair as a companion. In most playthroughs he is the King of Ferelden. It wouldn't make much sense to have a king following you around and taking orders, instead of you know...kinging.

Unless he pulls a Maric?

Vivienne basically means no Maevaris, unfortunately.

Unless they're going for the Morrigan + Wynne setup (Female Black Mage + Female White Mage) again but I doubt it.

I'm happy Varric's back. But dammit, he's right back into trouble again. Why can't he just go back to minding stores that are invisible and exist only on paper again. Nice quiet life with the guild. Why does he always have to tag along with people that charge High Dragons and throw themselves between two warring factions?

I hope he makes it. He's getting too old for this ****.

Alistair is a returning companion would be terrible idea. Serious this guy has so many fates (King, Grey Warden, Drunkard/Exile and he can die)

I have at least two saves where Alistair is sacrificing himself at the end.
So please no Alistair as DA:I companion.

Kind of hoping they stop with returning companions at Varric and Cassandra. Personally, that's enough for me.

It could just as easily be referring to Leliana.

It says "red-haired Orlesian", and Aveline considers herself Ferelden.

I like it, it's terribly Orlesian (I love Orlais and Tevinter obviously lol) I think I would have been a bit disappointed if every Orlesian companion we came across was "practical". Leliana loved shoes, but she kind of went for the more "tame" fashions and Aveline was more or less a Ferelden at heart.

It'd be a bit odd if every Orlesian we traveled with was above the crazy fashions.

Sorry. But that´s unlikey. I think is pretty clear that they hinted Cullen and Leliana.
And Aveline was a Captain of the guard not a Knight Captain. The only Knight Captain i know is Cullen.

If she was truly Orlesian her hat would be a magnificent lion of pure gold with rubies for eyes and a fire-breath ability. It would be endorned with beautiful feather-scales of the rare dragon-peacock. It would be enchanted so at start of every battle it would roar:

"VICTORY IN THE NAME OF OUR GLORIOUS EMPRESS, BLESSED BE HER HOLY NAME."

Also, it would be called something deep such as The Death of Innocence.

Kinda assumed we'd get Cassandra didn't expect Varric. I'm glad to see it on one hand... sad on the other. I hope Varric makes it through DA3.

Personally I'm happy to see Cassandra,  but a bit apprehensive at having Varric along for the ride, don't get me wrong I live the guy, but I kind of associate him with Hawke. He's Hawke's companion to me....but it should be cool having him around and I'll probably get over it.

Indeed, but we must forgive her shabby fashion sense if only to advance ourselves in the Empress' s court.
