Varric, Alistair, or Cullen? :/

Hoping there's at least one sexy, cool male companion with magic abilities (human or elf). Also Alistair and Cullen together seems like overkill on the knight in shining armor front. Also - how old would Alistair be by DAI?

I think the WoT mentions that by the time we pick him up Alistair was 20 so maybe 30 or 31

Cassandra is a templar. Seekers are highest rank templars. Lambert is a seeker.

I don't know if they changed it again, but as of DA2, the Templars were basically ex-vigilantes given some authority by the Chantry. Where Cassandra worked for the Chantry proper.

What I'm gathering from the wiki doesn't dispute this idea. The Seekers, answering to the chantry, oversaw the authority of the Templars. So there's a connection. There's also some other complication in that the Seekers and Templars form from the same original group.

The red-haired Orlesian is Leliana, almost certainly.  The fan-favourite knight-captain is almost certainly Cullen.

Aveline wasn't an Orlesian, although she was red-haired, and she was a guard captain, not a knight-captain.

Shipping Vivienne and Cassandra so much right now.

10/10 best templar/mage pairing would ship again

Cullen/F!Amell who

Cassandra's not a Templar.

Isn't she though.

ISN'T SHE.

(she isn't)

Cassandra is a templar. Seekers are highest rank templars. Lambert is a seeker.

They're actually two seperate orders though they used to fall under the umbrella of the Chantry.

As I recall some of them are pulled from the Templars, but Cassandra was never trained as a templar.

I think what your talking about is when the first Inquisition signed the Nevarran Accord (sp) and the senior members became the Seekers and the others became the templars.

He'd be in his early thirties. So, not improbable for him to be around and a viable warrior. Cullen would be about the same age, after all, if not a little older since he already had made his Templar vows at the beginning of DA:O. However, I really don't think Alistair will be a companion in DA:3, much as I loved him in DA:O, for all the reasons that I and others have mentioned in this thread.  :)

Yeah it's complicated.

The Templars are like the Wehrmacht while the Seekers are like the Waffen-SS.

Cassandra is/was a Seeker, not a Templar. How can people be debating this?

"I am Cassandra Pentaghast, Seeker of the Chantry."

That was LITERALLY the first thing she said in Dragon Age II. I know the game wasn't great but come on! You couldn't have forgotten that little tidbit.

I hope Varric makes it through DA3.

They just can't kill Varric.
I mean it's beyond cruel ...I was okay with Mordin death in ME3 but Varric 's death?
No , just no.

They can kill him and they should. It would be so much better than introducing a brand new character only for them to die in the first hour. When it would be more affecting to take an established companion like Varric and have him fall off his perch instead, a moment like that would have so much more bite to it just like Mordin.

I really hope most of the companions are new characters.

What's Vivienne's race? Her silly mage/Orlesian/Orlesian-mage hat obscures her ears.

I disagree , Mordin's death made sense , it was his redemption.
He's responsible for a genocide.
Varric's death would just be cheap , and obviously just to get people to cry.

I wouldn't mind having a choice where you can save a puppy or Varric , though.

Sorry. But that´s unlikey. I think is pretty clear that they hinted Cullen and Leliana.
And Aveline was a Captain of the guard not a Knight Captain. The only Knight Captain i know is Cullen.

I read "red haired" and "captain" together when i skimmed, sorry! I prefer Leliana and cullen anyday ;)

I wouldn't mind seeing Aveline again somewhere in Ferelden

Vivienne basically means no Maevaris, unfortunately.

Unless they're going for the Morrigan + Wynne setup (Female Black Mage + Female White Mage) again but I doubt it.

I think (or at least hope) they're going to do the mixed gender thing they had going in DA2;

                      Female        Male
Warriors     Aveline        Fenris
Rogues        Isabela       Varric
Mages          Merrill         Anders
+ Sebastian.

I'm sort of exited about Varric .And surprised too , I didn't think he would be a companion.
I hope he won't change too much ...
I don't know the idea of having Varric again it's like getting back home , if that makes any sense.
He's like comfort food or something.

I agree...Varric is a connection to the past. For us who liked DA2 Varric gives us an emotional connection to all we went through and although we don't get to play our beloved Hawke again Varric brings all those emotional and personal connections we experienced in DA2. It's kind of like in WWII when the GI's had the letters and photos from their girls. It reminds us what we have to lose and what we have to fight for. Its a brilliant move IMO.

I'm happy about Varric who was always my Hawke's best friend, and obviously the strongly hinted inclusion of Cullen. I'm not a big fan of Cassandra, but willing to be won over, and same for the new mage character.

Hope they're cooking up some more awesome male companions for my FemInquisitor to get cozy with. :wizard:

We can have Cole as long as he's not romanceable...

I'm sorry -- I don't usually tell people how to play their games but no. Just no. It's pedophilic and creepy on so many levels. :(

I'm not happy with Varric being in our party again, he was my most used squadmate but I really didn't want him for another fullgame. Oh, well... I understand why Bioware did it though.

I thought it was a hood then I thought it was horns and then I thought it was a funky Orlesian hat...or they could be fulfilling the desire for silly mage hats that people ask for.

@lady @danny

Oh OK. Al is much younger in DAO than I thought. And less time passed between the first two games than I realized.

I kind of want all new companions though. :/

I think we can safely rule out Alistair as a companion. In most playthroughs he is the King of Ferelden. It wouldn't make much sense to have a king following you around and taking orders, instead of you know...kinging.

Just because you make a choice to King him doesn't mean he gets to be king forever.

If they can justify Lelianna's resurrection in a setting that's supposed to definitively not have resurrection, then they can justify anything.

Besides, he's running around in the comics doing ADVENTURE too.

I'd rather they not invalidate choices made in DAO by having him abdicate, only to follow the Inquisitor around like a lackey.

At any rate, I seriously doubt he'll be a companion. If he appears in DA:I the safe money is on cameo as the King of Ferelden, or alternatively, a hopeless drunk.
