There not even a small hint that Cole will be a companion. Its just a wish by fans. So I wouldn't place Cole as possible anymore than I'd put a Qunari as possible. 

And yes, the article confirms Vivienne as a new companion.

She's a witch of the wilds - I highly doubt that Alistair stabbing her actually caused her to die. She probably learned a few tricks from Flemeth. haha

I'd consider the leak where he had his own companion blurb to be a pretty big hint. Not a "guaranteed" for sure but it at least suggests that he was considered for a companion spot.

My guess, for what it's worth, is that we'll get roughly nine companions, which would give us three of each class. That's what we got in DA2, although Carver and Bethany weren't available through the whole game. It's also about equal to what we had in DAO, since you can't have Loghain and Alistair simultaneously.

I'm guessing we'll have Cassandra, the Tal'Vashoth and maybe Cullen as warriors. Seems straightforward enough.

Varric is our only confirmed rogue at this point - we're bound to get at least one who dual-weilds daggers, who I'm betting will be a new character. (If they were bringing back Zevran or Isabela, I think they'd have at least hinted at that by now.) I'd rather see two new rogues, or at least two who haven't been permanent party members before - Varric seems like enough of a connection to the past without having everybody you know join up. I wouldn't mind seeing Charade Amell or Tallis in there, though.

For mages, in addition to Vivienne, there's been a rumour floating around about a male Tevinter mage since that character survey came out, and that seems like an interesting angle to pursue.

I'm hoping we get more all new characters as companions than just Vivienne. I'm ok with a few returning characters as companions but i don't want them all to be because I want to get to know some new characters. Just getting non-playable characters or companions from previous games would be boring because you already know what to expect with several of them.

I like the idea of Cassandra as a companion, but I'm not sure how I feel about Varric. I liked him in DA2 and I'd like to have him stay with Hawke. Hopefully BW provides a good reason for him to join the Inquisitor. Vivienne also sounds interesting...she may be able to provide new information on how Mages are treated in Orlais and how life is there in general - though you can't trust her, of course, since she's Orlesian. What? The first two games made me too Ferelden to ever trust an Orlesian.

Yes, I've been thinking that their banter will be awesome.

After seeing the GI screenshot of Vivienne, I suspect that she's the woman who appeared to have a paintbrush in her hand, in the 'companion leak' pictures.

As for the others, I hope the red-haired Orlesian is Aveline if we must have more returning characters, but I suspect it's almost certainly Leliana.

Could anybody else see Galyan from Dawn of the Seeker making an appearance? After all, he is a friend of Casandra, serves in the Orlesian circle and could act as a representative of the anti-circle mages in the party.

The gameinformer article only confirms Varric and Cassandra as actual companions, and Morrigan as an NPC. It also states that there was evidence that as "certain red-haired orlesian and a fan-favorite Knight-Captain would be poised for a comeback", so that suggests Leliana (or maybe Tallis) and Cullen, but whether they are cameos, NPCs with larger role, or companions is unknown at this point. Vienne is actually not confirmed as a companion in the article, just stated she is an 'ally', which be both companion or just an ally like the first enchanter from Origins was (a certain part of the article does say she 'joins up with the inquisitor', which do suggest she will be a possible companion however - here's hoping she gets a different hat if she do join ).
