Protip #1: Don't play off host.
/crutch
I play Slayer exclusively off host gold/silver still come out on top
I never understood that statement ..sure there's a bit of lag but nothing that stops you from charging all over the place..
This is probably where the problem lies.
Besides, watching the screen is a crutch. Why don't you play blindfolded next time? Spectres can play without using senses at all.
so Gold doesn't count ..please.. crutch or get a better ISP

A good guide for sure. Wish I saw more Vanguards... Lots of people who can't or won't host though... And even more of them who are chicken : )
why would I be scared of vanguarding offhost, even with a host from the other side of the ocean : )
go big or go home, ain't it like that?
also, too much head knowledge for one take, Dear >.<
and btw I wanted to thank you for the awesome DrellGod Lolcolyte thread, since then he's one of my prime assassins
This ^
I am not going to let being off-host completely eliminate a character that may be more challenging to play. Most classes suffer issues off host and it is something that has to be dealt with.
That being said, I still suck at playing vanguard even knowing the mechanics of the character, but it is something I am working at so I appreciate players that put in the work for posts like this. Excellent job, and I will be checking this video out later.

@LanceCuke: I'd say I'm a good not great player and have no problem playing the drell off host in most Gold games. It just takes a bit of practice and a slight shift in technique & timing. Hosting is definitely better, but not essential.

Deerber can you carry me once I get a computer? I would like to see the original drellgod in action.
For the record, the original drellgods were probably sabresandiego, Sp3c7eR, and maybe Sy7ar. I recall some sick vids from those guys back when everyone thought he was the squichiest of the squich. And before grenade gear no less.
Deerber's great, but you gotta respect history, yo.
Yeah Shampoo is right of course. I was merely one of the first to annoy people on BSN with my love for the character
Never had the chance to play with sabresandiego and Sp3c7eR sadly, but I do recall the first time I've heard of Sy7ar. There was a guy posting on here shouting out to him for ramboing on Vancouver/paltinum/something by his own with a Drellguard, while the others were camping in the command room, and of course outscoring them 2:1. He had my admiration from there already. Then I played with him too, and... Well, let's just say that he's one of the few players that could still school me about this game
Who created the title "Drellgod" though?

In other news, my drellguard pulled off six straight bonus charges vs a banshee a few minutes ago. A thing of beauty it was. Bonus power rocks.

I've had as many as 9 bonus charges!! I was in a match with a freind who went for 11. I discounted the bonus charge thing for the longest time, but sometimes it pays off... My VOLGUARD rolls that way.

Well I am quit used to vanguarding, but I can safely say that I don't know when not to charge a brute or a scion.

Sorry about the delay, was on vacations.
Yeah brutes and scions are pretty easy. As every enemy that can sync (Banshees apart), they need to melee before they can sync.
Sooo... If they just meleed, better stay out of sync range until they start another animation.
Note that for Brutes the charge doesn't count as melee, for this purpose. You can safely stay near a brute that just charged, but you've gotta back away if it does the "normal" melees. There are two kinds of it, and as far as I know, both prime for a sync.

One failed unintended solo against Collectors later, I think there's a safe way to charge Praetorians when they're walking. Charging and then immediately rolling backwards should do the trick. I did this numerous times when I got the four targets objective, and every time the Praetorian failed to land a melee hit on me. This might need more testing before declaring that this method is safe, I'm just throwing this out there.
Uh? That's weird. They always hit me with the melee when I do that. At least when I charge from the front. Then sometimes they fail to sync cause I already started the dodge and end up being staggered but outside the sync range... But it doesn't even happen always.
Would you mind doing some more testing? It would be weird indeed if is worked differently for each of us

IMO this is the most fun class to play because of the adrenaline rush you get from the speed of actions taking place around you.
Agreed. I tried a few of the others, but Vanguard just gives you a rush!

Vanguard's are my crack addiction. Dat feeling you get when you're charging all over the place single-handedly destroying the enemy.

The difference is really big when playing vanguard and host your game. I can't imagine playing vanguard and not host my own game. Biotic Charge almost everytime doesn't work when I need it to... everything is so slow. I play vanguard mostly with acolyte. It is amazing how it works against cerberus. All you need is to be fast, aggresive and... charge everything that moves
He, glad to see people still looking at this after all this time. Always nice to see another Vanguard addict
And yeah I always host when I vanguard, too. I just can't stand the BS you get otherwise.
Anyway, acolyte on any vanguard makes cerberus a cakewalk, yeah. But it's somewhat an entry level. There are better guns that are harder to make work. So I urge you not to settle on the acolyte and to try and lean towards new setups

I'm at the beginning of my L2drellgod, but even now I don't feel like he needs an acolyte.
