Bianca died and then used magic to assume the appearance of Varric and took over his identity

I support this! Specially if I can romance him as a male. I'm thinking male elf so it'd be like my dwarf wardenxZevran. Maybe that's the save I'll choose to romance him.

Overall I don't want him to be romanceable, but if he is, it should be strictly by a dwarf since it goes more with his character. As someone referenced before it could be like Sebastion where you had to meet certain requirements.

I hope Varric will only be a temporary companion in DAI, without any romance whatsoever. He's Hawke's buddy, sidekick and bro, he can't hang around somebody else! It's like Damon and Alaric's bromance - you can't expect Alaric to move to Klaus's spin-off and become his bro instead, it cheapens their friendship, their unique connection.

P.S. Am I the only one who loves Varric dearly but doesn't care about Bianca?

Maybe only for female dwarf protagonist?

If he's single and available, then why not - he's manlier, less wishy-washy, and less angsty than some of the other LIs we've had to choose from. And now that I think about it, he's more fashionably dressed than the other guys too. :P

The fact that he was mentioned as a companion in the article makes me think he will be there for most or all of the game, not temporary. Which is fine by me. I think he could make an interesting romance, not just because he's a cool character but also because it's somewhere new for his character to go, rather like Jaheira in BG2. That said, I could be wrong but I didn't think Mary Kirby was keen on writing romance.

Bianca could be Varric's true love... and now lost... but I can't see why he couldn't try to love again :)

I think it's time for a dwarf romance as it seems there are people who have wanted it for a while and there has already been many human and elf romances. And if it falls on Varric to be that dwarf then that's ok with me.

Do you think his personality will have changed at all from DA2? It seems times have gotten pretty hard and Varric did have a couple of more serious moments in the last game already. He'll make an interesting companion in any case for sure. I've always liked his character and my Hawkes are best buddies with him on pretty much every playthrough. If he's a romance option then I'll give him a cute dwarf inquisitor. If not he'll still be my bro.

The only male Dragon Age character I would happily switch teams for.

Sorry, Cassandra, but I need Varric's chest hair in my life.

(But if you change his character drastically (see: Anders) due to some trauma he experienced, no matter how justified, I swear to god Bioware. I want Varric in all his charming and easy-going glory.)

I personally wouldn't want him to be romanceable, but if he is it really should be for the Female Dwarf only

While I'm all for more incentive to play dwarven characters (only 5% Dwarven Wardens WTF??), I have to admit I selfishly want him to be available for elves too. Image IPB

I know, I know Varric only shows interest in sexy dwarven women in DA2, but he does technically only tell Hawke, "Too bad I'm not into humans." Loophole Abuse! Elves aren't humans either! Image IPB

I personally want him to unite with the real Bianca. Mary stated that Bianca is not dead, so there are hopes to reunite them.

That's what I really want to happen with Varric, if Bianca is still alive they should be reunited. But if she really is dead then atleast the Female Dwarf PC should romance him

I feel that a romancable Varric would ruin the character. Sure, he's neat and awesome and one of the most memorable characters the series has to offer but to make him available to romance kind of ruins that. If he reunites with an alive Bianca, that'd be one thing but to be available for romance with the PC? No.

He's like my bro in DA2. I guess it is mainly my due to my selfishness because if there are only 2 male romances, I want that spot to be open to someone else since I don't think I can romance him due to the past bond. Anyway, I wouldn't mind if he's romanceable though since there are quite a few numbers of people who want to romance him.

Plot Twist: Cassandra and Varric have traveled together long enough that they're now romantically involved.

Honestly I've been expecting this... But Varric as an LI... The game would never get released as there'd be NO WAY to satisfy the fan base within the limits of the content. Varric's a freaking demi-god... I just don't see it working, though I would love to see him and Cass.

I would like to see more variety with LI's, and Dwarf and Tal'Vashoth are two interesting options that we have not seen before, so I would like to see one of either, or both, included at some point in the series. I'm uncertain whether Varric in particular should be an LI though. If a Hawke who knew him personally for years was not suitable LI material for him then I can't see how the Inquisitor, who has presumably known him for less time over the course of the game, would be.

It also doesn't feel like it would be an adequate culmination of his story. Bianca would need to explored first, and I think that delving into that relationship would do his character more justice than a relationship with the player character.

I'm also opposed to limiting certain LI's to particular races. I already don't think they should be limited to gender unless everyone gets an equal number of options, and limiting them to races is even worse. Multiple races should be a means of giving the romances more conflict and interesting situations, not limiting that content.

Well, number one I trust the writers (Mary Kirby pleeeeaase write Varric again? <3) to go where they want with the character, and that includes the kind of relationship he'll have with the Inquisitor and fellow companions. I'm sure they'll do a great job no matter what.

However, if I had any say at all in it (...uh, I don't :P) then I would say absolutely, I would LOVE for Varric to be a romance option. I adored him in DA2 and my one Lady Hawke would have gone after him in ten seconds flat had he been available. Even my Dude Hawkes were into Varric but ya know, they were... preoccupied. By Fenris. >___>

Seriously though, he's so much like Garrus it hurts. The buddy you fall in love with, who has your back no matter what? Plus he's handsome; though I miss his receding hairline. D:

I love Varric but I do indeed flip-flop on my personal opinion regarding romancing him. I get an "uncle" vibe from him in Dragon Age 2 that I'd have to shake in DAI.

I totally see the appeal, mind you, and WHEN will we ever get a male dwarf more appropriate or appealing than him? Seriously. So if it turns out to be so I will definitely give him his own Inquisitor, just don't think it will be my main, 'tis all.

Maybe we'll get a scenario where we stumble on Bianca and either shatter the last bit of chemistry there was between them or we let them reunite in private. If they don't get together, then our Inquisitor has a chance.

Having Varric as a romanceable character would be my primary motivation to play as a female dwarf. How they look matters as well of course ;)
