I hope against hope that Varric is introduced as an LI, because I cannot describe how disappointed I was when playing through DA2 to find that my only options (as a girl who prefers guys) were a rather broody elf who couldn't stop whining about mages, and a very emo mage who couldn't stop whining about Templars. Now I say this as a slight exaggeration, since I liked them both to a certain degree...it was just a little flat to have two LI's that were pretty well the same romance archetype. They were both on extreme ends of a topic, they both refused to listen to reason right up until the very end, they were both "misunderstood", and both prone to acts of violence and could only find redemption in Hawke. The ladies of DA2 were characters with very different personalities, and their romances reflected that, so while I liked Fenris and Anders as companions (and Fenris had a voice that turned my knees to jelly), if Varric had been an option I would have chosen him in a heartbeat. Not only did I fall in love with his cleverness, humor, and general good-heartedness, he was really the only dynamic guy in the group. I don't add Sebastian because he was a dlc companion.
I'm simply saying that while I do hope that they learn from their mistakes and create a little originality for a variety of romance options, whether they choose to make them open to all sexualities or have a few that are set, I would find myself once again deeply disappointed if we weren't given a chance to be swept away by his debonair personality on a more intimate level. If playing as a dwarf in the only way to see how well scripted his romance might turn out, then I won't hesitate to do so, but I would consider it a huge bonus if Varric was available to all of those who adore him, regardless of their height. After all, I don't think it would be fair do deprive us of him just because we don't all want to play such a delicious height :3
