Combat: ME3
Dialogue: ME2
Exploration: ME1

Pretty spot on. I hope the next game brings back the dialogue options of ME2. I'm certain the combat will be up to snuff, but they need to bring back some of the fun from 2's dialogue.

I have to completely disagree with dialogue being better in ME2.

Because of the way it handled paragon and renegade you had to stick to one path in order to be able to use those options in conversations.

1 and 3 let you have much more variety.

I agree that the paragon/renegade system in ME2 was probably the worst of the series. Still, the way, dialogues were implemented was the best.
It was better than ME1 because of the presentation (dialogues in ME1 are rather static), the interrupt system and the fact that in ME1, while you pretty much always had 3+ options on the wheel, often the actual spoken dialogue would be the same for multiple wheel options (especially in side quests). So it often was a fake variety.
ME3 just takes too much control in the dialogues away from the player (auto dialogue, missing third option, lot's of "listening in" instead of a realy conversation, etc.). So while the reputation system was indeed an improvement, there are too many downsides to it in order to elevate it above ME2 in my opinion.

BTW, I think it is important for BW to keep in mind that dialogue and exploration are very important gameplay elements of the ME series, not just combat. I would even argue that they are more important and should receive more consideration and game time than they had in ME3.

ME3 probably had the best gameplay in terms of expanding more on combat, but the atmosphere of it was boring and disconnecting. The battles started to feel like doing chores after a while. ME2 combat atmosphere was dynamic and exciting, whilst not much in the way of open combat usage, it was more confined but interestingly active and enemies were used in a creative way that kept me interested even though the enemies were of a generic type.

Mass Effect 3 had it by a mile; if you tried to make a multiplayer mode out of the previous two games gameplay, you'd be laughed out the door. Not only were the shooting controls tightened up, but it had the most variety in terms of weapons, powers, manoeuvrability and enemies.

ME3, definitely.
ME1's gameplay was just clunky. I'm not talking about just combat, basically everything about the game felt clunky for me. Which is a pity, I really really liked its story, the classic space opera atmosphere (that was especially awesome) and quite complex RPG elements (for a TPS/RPG hybrid), they are the best from all three games.

ME2 was a step in the right direction, I think, combat-wise, but removed many of the RPG elements, like the way exp was awarded, and I really missed weapon upgrades and visible weapon statistics. However, it felt just smooth overally and the dialogue got better (except of making me suffer for being a renegon, not a full renegade or paragon, to the point I e.g. couldn't pass the renegade check with Tali and Legion fighting and had to regain Legion's loyalty during a following conversation.) I liked ME2 better than ME1.

Now, ME3, that was perfect. The combat is just as dynamic as it should be, and exp isn't awarded just at the end of a mission but after important events, which made me feel like I've been playing a game one step closer to an classic RPGs, which was great. I also loved the skill tree and several ways you could evolve your powers. Also, weapon upgrades make a return - yay! Frankly, there's lots of auto dialogue, but the reputation system is explicitly better and I could finally make a nice blend of paragon and renegade decisions and still don't pass up on some opportunities and important moments, like the geth - quarian peace. 3 also overally felt like a middle ground between 1 and 2's directions, only perfected, and that makes it my most favourite game in the series. :)

ME3. Best combat mechanics, customization options for your gear without the iventory overflow of ME1 and the dialogue infrastrucure is basically the one of ME2 (dialogue wheel + interrupt), even though I would have preferred a stronger usage of the dialogue wheel instead of autodialogue.

ME3 just perfected many mechanics: aside from the combat, weapon mods were reintroduced and you can have a sh*tload of different weapons even without cluttering the inventory.

Now if they would have included vehicle exploration with the maneuverability of the Hammerhead and the sturdiness of the Mako...

The big story of ME2 was pretty weak but the presentation was perfect, just youtube the Dereclic Reaper mission.

Depends on what you define as gameplay.

ME3 had the best combat and it's storyline was much stronger than ME2's but I found the stuff in between the combat sections to be very weak. I did not like the way ME3 was put together at all, it felt.....incomplete, half assed.

ME1 had a great story, lots of places to visit and interact with but overall I felt that playing ME1 was a chore, I do not have fun when I play ME1 which defeats the purpose of playing a game, to have fun and enjoy myself, to be entertained.

ME2 had a weak story that meant nothing in the grander scheme of things and its combat was very basic by ME3 and GOW standards but at the end of the day I had the most fun playing ME2. I can't explain why, I don't know how to explain it. What ME2 did worked for me, it had all the right stuff in it and in all the right quantities, I love the way the game flows, how the Universe gradually opens up. I think it was the best paced out of the 3 games and it gave us alot of different stuff to do.

I like ME 3 combat and weight mechanic. ME 2 class based weapons annoyed me, and ME 1 "carry everything around" was kind of weird. But ME 1 has the best written story and characters, Imo.
