Well this is weird. I was having some problems with Origin and according to it failed Dragon Age: Ultimate edition dlc's so I reinstalled it. This was after Origin downloaded the 1700mb "update" for Dragon Age 2. After reinstalling Origin it wants to download this update again.

Edit: Dragon Age 2 just downlaoded another 240mb update. What is going on?

This new Origin has gone mad with updates. Now it wants me to download a 4,5 gb patch for Mass Effect 3 and a 6gb patch for Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning!

I have the exact same issue with Mass Effect 3 and a different issue with Dragon Age II.  Origin wants to install a 4GB Mass Effect 3 update for no confirmed reason and Origin keeps insisting I install a 1.72MB update for Dragon Age II: Black Emporium.

No matter how many times I tell it to install the patch for Dragon Age II it keeps insisting the update is ready...

Hopefully the Mass Effect 3 update won't suffer the same issue.

Check Mass Effect 2 as well. When I launched the game after the Origin update I had to validate the game all of a sudden!

All the Bioware titles are affected. I getting download failed errors on Dragon Age: Ultimate edition DLC for some reason.

I just had to download yet another Dragon Age 2 update. Can Bioware please say what is going on?

I just updated to the latest Beta version of Origin and after doing so the 1.72MB patch for Dragon Age II was replaced with a 1,696.57MB update >.>"

The Mass Effect update seems to be permenant at least so hopefully this new, significantly larger update for Dragon Age II is also permenant and Origin will quit badgering me.

I wish it would. I did another Origin update to fix Origin and it now wants to redownload all the DLC?

I tried raising the question on Origin HQ about the failed Dragon Age DLC download error and they deleted my post!

Afte the update to Dragon Age II, Origin no longer reports any updates available for the game.

For some reason after the update I had a small 200mb and after that nothing. Only seems to occur if you uninstall Origin and reinstall it.

Almost all my EA games now want updates. Besides Mass Effect 3, Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning wants a 6GB update, Fifa Manager 13 wants an update, The Sims 3 wants an update and now Origin is trying to install DLC of Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition on top of my DLC. :(

The only EA games not wanting updates are my Fifa Manager 12 and Dead Space 2.

Perhaps they're in the progress of rolling out similar changes to Steam? I mean Steam's been rolling out a new way to package games to ensure faster downloads/updates, generally requiring you to redownload most/all of the game. Origin may be in the process of something similar.

Maybe you're right. A while back on Stream I had a new update for Mass Effect 1 to convert it to a better file system.

I know Starcraft 2 patches the game before you play and the first time I played it I had to wait for the game to be optimized before I could play it. That was frustrating. 2 and a half days to wait for it to update fully. The joy of buying the game almost 3 years or so after it launched.

I've had the same behavior in DA II. It makes me always nervous if something happens unannounced, because it cold be that something is gone wrong (hack etc.).

In my case I hadn't installed DA II over Origin, but Disk and while Origins downloaded almost 1 GB for this game I tried to figure out what's going on. Just to see what happend I tried to download an DLC (Promo-Pack) and Origin said that the game was not installed via Origin and has to be uninstalled and re-installed. After the unannounced update and installation of it, Origin didn't mention anything is i tried to install the Promo-Pack.

So: Do you have installed ME, DA, or any other update via Origin or do you have added it later?
Maybe this is also a possible answer: Origin integrates the games properly so you can purchase directly DLCs w/o conflicts.

Besides that: I don't like to be uninformed. The Origin Crew should have announced it.

I did not launch Origin client for some time, and I've got same - DA2 and ME2 just got some big updates, have no idea what is was, the version remained same - 1.04, and I already had most of free stuff and tex packs installed. The launcher link was also broken for win8, looks like it was removed entirely. New DA2 shortcut starts the game directly, with no launcher.

I've got no traffic limit from my ISP, but I suppose those who have were very unhappy to redownload those huge and strange updates.

I just got another Mass Effect 2 update and now the game launches without the disc.

Origin though has messed up my Dragon Age profile. It's gone.

Dragon Age 2 profile is fine but Dragon Age: Ultimate profile won't accept my email or password now.

This could possibly be related to the removal and/or free access to online passes? I know I had to get myself a new Cerberus Network key for whatever reason when I tried to start ME2 the other way. Since they are free now it wasn't a bad hoop to jump.

Or perhaps they've imposed a new minimum length for passwords, requiring you to reset/change your password?

I reset my password and Origins still won't accept my email/password. I can't play Origins while logged in or manage any of my Origins characters from my Bioware account.

I just bought the game through Amazon and after installing it the 1.7GB update turned up on Origin. I have a bit of a slow internet connection and it's killing me not being able to play it because of this. I'm guessing that it is simply re-downloading the game into your Origin account in case the disk gets borked so you have the safety of having a digital copy. Grateful to Bioware for that but DAT TIMING SON! I only recently got into Dragon Age, I want to plaaaaaay damnit!

I don't know what Origin does, but the Steam copy installs without any drama. you're also able to register the Steam copy on Origin too, so you can see for yourself how abysmal Origin is if desired :)

Interesting that you post this compliment for the Steam install here, but complain about having problems with it over on the Nexus.

Well the Loading Speed issue isn't directly related to Steam or Origin, it's a problem with the game it self. The only problem I have with the Steam version is that I can't make use of work-arounds to the Load Speed problem.

I have a similar problem, but that I installed DA2/ME3 and the rest from discs originally, so Origin is checking in the Origin folders for the registered games, not finding the installs and then trying to redownload every damn thing that you've already got installed, and theres no way to turn that **** off. It seriously needs better detection. No wonder I haven't turned Origin on in half a bloody year.

I have retail disc installs of DAO/UE, DA2/SE, and ME1.  EA/Origin seems to have no problems with them at all.

My Origin version: 9.3.10.4710
I had a retail disk install of DA2. Now today Origin said, that I have an update, which I have to install. And it's curiously 1,7 GB. I haven't used Origin for 1,5-2 months, and now I come back to this... Not much changed, I see. ME2 shows the same thing. I try to download DA2 and see if this "update" works, then I'll check back to give status report.

Edit: Well, the game works now and recognised the previously installed DLCs. Weird.  But, at least it works.
