Will the next game be a triology or a spin-off?

I am slightly afraid that the next series of games will be spin-offs dedicated to already existing characters like Garrus. Worst scenario game idea would be having Kai Lang have his own game in a hack n slash game (Kai Lang needs a big character rewrite), or Garrus (as cool as he is) doing trick shots with sniper rifles and delivering punch lines with a parody nature like the Citadel dlc. My fears for this type of games is that the protagonist is already pre-defined and not up for player interpretation, the game setting will have a set path and will have not much room for exploration.

Even though Bioware said the next protagonist will not be "Shepard 2,0", meaning a character that is already pre-defined like Geralt from the Witcher series or hopefully a character that can be edited like Shepard in the same capacity or more but still a completely different character. I am going by my own interpretation of all this. I cannot imagine Bioware not making the next protagonist to be created by the player and role play with in different ways in combat and dialogue, unless they made a spin-off with a set protagonist. I know I am overthinking all this but after ME3 and the following comments Bioware has made. I feel slightly more afraid of Bioware taking ME down a road of less player agency.

I think it will be something new.

Maybe a Reformation war in the year 800 a.S., that divides the Church of Shepard.

I hope its not another trilogy, I'd rather they just keep making games instead of planning how many they are going to make. But at the same time don't become call of effect 48 modern ops 6. They get forced to finish story arcs and complete things in a certain time limit.

I'm hoping for now on, every Mass Effect game is a standalone/self-contained story. This way, they can make choices have drastic changes to the narrative with wildly divergent paths, and can kill off whoever they want without the worry of that character needing to reprise their role in future games.

Unless ofcourse, say a decade from now they feel like bringing the entire Shepard Trilogy cast back together and rebooting it.

I think it's gonna be something they haven't told us about yet, and when they do a bunch of people will scream, a bunch will cheer, and the BSN will be engulfed in even more speculation threads then it currently is <LOL>.

As far as im aware at this moment in time they dont have a lead writer for the next lot, so i suppose it all depends on who they get, the strength of there writing and how long bioware/ea employ them for. But the did state the next trilogy didnt they.

The spinoff game will center on Liara, and her romantic relationship with Shepard will be canonized in it.

I can only imagine the micro-riots to occur on BSN if everyone is forced to embrace eternity.

three games. each one based off the three endings. we'll get control or synthesis first, and we'll get destroy last. IT confirmed.

I just hope it isn't a prequel...like someone mentioned up above, i'd prefer the future ME games be contained to one-shot storylines...not a huge epic trilogy like with the reaper storylines.

Easy answer... Its a prequel.. No "what if'", "but" or "Should have". It's a prequel. Someone low class in the military, that has to climb up the military ladder to make the leveling system seem ALL new and fresh again. BW will never want to tie this game to the end disaster we know as ME 3, but will probably give us the same likable characters and level trees to keep us on our toes.

Sure we'll see cameo's for fan service (even if it doesnt make sense), but I for one don't care really... Will probably give the next ME game a miss seeing I was considered one of the "naggers" who questioned their ending when the story didnt add up.

Will def watch it via twitch or something though...

I say Sequel.

Seeders will appear and want to weed all synthetic life. So they can raise pure life. Again.

Church of shepard...God i can imagine the rage on these boards if that thing even existed in the following games.

Considering the choices made in each game really don't change the story, on a plot level I guess, they should just do something new. I fear Mass3 choices affecting Mass4. I'd like something focused more on the combat system of Mass3, hate the story and half the characters but I LOVE the combat.

No word on another trilogy as far as I know. It doesn't have to be a spinoff, either. It could just be a stand alone story.

hopefully it will be a reboot

out Bioware will make a game without Shepard (like reach) then realise mass effect is not the same without Shepard and make a proper mass effect 4

The stories and characters are the most critical elements of the games. Needless to say going this route would ruin the game entirely.

A spin-off and a trilogy aren't mutually exclusive. A trilogy can stem from a spin-off.

That said, I hope they don't tell a grandiose, overarching narrative like the original trilogy again. It would be stupid if what Shepard did gets overshadowed by a new protagonist.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be a sequel (Another trilogy) given the fact that Bioware said in whatever direction they go with ME4 they will be respectful of the choices made in the original trilogy. Could be a spin-off but how can something be acknowledged if the story is before the original trilogy? Which pushes the idea that there might be a sequel in the works.....

the citadel dlc was kinda stupid and pointless in my opinion. MASS EFFECT 2 was the end of MASS EFFECT........its just the truth. A sad truth, but the truth.
