From what we've heard thus far, the overarching plot of Inquisition seems to revlove around an elaborate conspiracy which has been devised so as to cause anarchy throughout southern Thedas. Ferelden is still slipping and sliding in its recovery from the Blight, Orlais is being devastated by a civil war, the mages are in open rebellion and demons are puring out of the sky - meanwhile, anybody who could possibly provide leadership or begin to restore order is conveniently preoccupied.

It's been said that there'll be a focus on a single person being ultimately responsible for this chaos, but we won't know who it is right away.

So, who stands to gain from the disorder? The Qunari, in order to weaken Thedas ready for conquest? Flemeth and her daughters? Morrigan?

Sandal?

I want to make a Starchild joke, but I won't.

I hope it's someone new. I already feel the game puts too much emphasis on old characters as it is. Needs a bit more standalone elements.

My longtime theory is that Fen'Harel is behind it all. This seems exaclty the type of thing a trickster god might go for. I also believed the Flemeth is related to him in some way, either working directly for or against him.

It can't be Corypheus, because he was asleep before most of this stuff startes, so maybe the Architect. Hell, I don't know. I just hope it isn't Flemeth, I like her too much to have to fight the coolest old lady in Thedas.

Perhaps it's all the fault of those Qunari agents Tallis was protecting. To carry on the DA2 theme of Hawke screwing up the world.

Pretty much anyone who is not on top and isn't overly concerned about collateral damage could benefit from giving things a shake, really.  Which is an issue the writers need to be aware of - the player might not really think chaos is bad, particularly if they're a mage or an elf.

I've been hoping Fiona would be a part of this whole thing, somehow. The Fen'Harel idea is something I've never thought of, but I like ittt.

I say Fiona because she's got a lot of clout with several different groups - the Grey Wardens, mages, and elves. She can unite non-mages to mages and humans and dwarves to elves. Perhaps the Veil tear was an unintended consequence of trying to prevent any further Blights. Or maybe a more nefarious plot to takeover Thedas? I think Morrigan or Flemeth and the Qunari are red herrings.

Jowan,.....JUST KIDDING!!!!

It will be a combination of several powerful humans who are profiting from all the destruction, a few high ups in the Chantry, someone powerful in the Tevinter Imperium and a few new creatures from the fade..... and perhaps put into motion by Morrigan's actions.

Flemeth does seem to be the obvious culprit... She set things in motion by saving the Warden and Hawke... She is also ancient, so the "long game" seems right up her alley.

Because of how obvious it is though, I doubt Bioware will make her the antagonist.

I don't understand this chaos thing. Thedas was ALWAYS in chaos. Blight after blight, after blight, exalted marches, wars between countries, wars between religious factions, racial wars - it has always been around in Thedas. There was never order and harmony in Thedas, ever.

The only new thing is the veil torn appart and demons coming in.. which if you think about it is not even new, because there was a mention of the time before veil existed, and world was ok.

You assume the world was ok before the veil was madr. You don't know that at all.

Because I absolutely have to be at least a little snarky.

After these agents of chaos explain their plan to us and how they believe themselves to be saving the world, what are the chances that we'll be forced to help them out?
