Big thank you to all who have contributed on here. I have spent the last three days and finally resolved the install issue with DVD.

I end up installing on a cheap Dell laptop.

Transferred all files to an external hard drive.

Changed the 'installmanifest_en.ini' file as per the post.

Run Setup.

Copied all files from external hard drive to correct folder on Desktop.

Now to enjoy.

Cheers

textures.rar is absolutely gigantic, and not the easiest of files to upload somewhere conveniently, so you might be waiting a while for someone to do that. Plus, there's no guarantee that the file itself is corrupted - a number of these issues and the fixes have indicated that there is no genuine corruption at all.

Personally, I'd try absolutely every other method listed here - particularly the .rar repairs, turning off data execution prevention and making sure you're installing from a profile with Administrator rights, as they're pretty good at handling 'phantom' corruptions.

If none of the fixes in this thread work, you might want to discuss with EA the possibility of getting a replacement DVD (if you've got the downloaded version, a re-download will almost certainly fix a genuine corruption issue).

If they honestly can't (or won't) help, then I'd be open in principle to running a test with someone to see if a confirmed uncorrupted file fixes the problem. Should that work, I'd be happy to discuss with someone at EA Tech or Bioware whether a formal way of sharing uncorrupted files could be picked up as part of their Tech Support process.

I'm not really all that happy about setting a precedent with uploading core game files for people to download as a first-stage fix, due to the copyright infringement issues attached.

Your response make no mention of the passage of a month between that last request and your current reply.  A PM might be a better idea, under the circumstances.  I checked his / her profile, and there hasn't been any activity since mid-March.  After you send him / her a PM, the system automaticially sends an eMail out (well, it does to me, anyway).

Cheers, Gorath. I copied the same response in a PM to hazee - but a point well made, I should have been clearer here to avoid confusion.

I wanted to put something in this thread because a few people have independently asked via PM if I'll send them uncorrupted files, and I wanted to make it clear to people navigating here that:

a) I don't believe this is necessary. Since the lastest DA:O patch as far as I'm aware, no-one has failed to successfully install after following advice from EA or the numerous potential fixes in this thread (or a combination of both).

B) Sharing game files (especially from a public location online) is ropey from a copyright perspective and not something I want to propose as a fix. I'm only willing to consider it as a method of confirming whether a file is actually corrupt or not on a DVD install as part of investigating whether there are further fixes that need to be explored.

As stated, there has been no need for additional fixes in the last 4 months, but if someone does have a new variant of this problem then I'd be happy to help explore it.

If a file does turn out to be corrupt, the sensible approach is to contact the vendor to arrange a replacement DVD, which should resolve the issue.

I just went through this after upgrading to 7 pro. I followed EA's advice and made a folder and sub folder. I copied the contents of my disk to that. Turned off data execution prevention for the dataextraction.exe. It took two tries but it unpacked flawlessly. I then had to delete the two folders to get the patch to install. Now I'm ready for my 3rd playthrough.

Hey all, thanks for the help. Just went into the DVD folders and right-clicked on "Setup" and "Run as Administrator" and it seems to be working fine for me now. Have the game installed on my computer and putting it on my GF's currently. Odd problem.

I did not have this problem, but a friend of mine had it when he tried to reinstall the game after he reinstalled Windows (He was using XP). He almost went crazy, but then he downloaded a pirated version and it works for him now. Though I don't know if that's legal (maybe it is if you own the game) and if patches and stuff will work.

Maybe this post will motivate Bioware or EA to make an official fix.

By the agreed rules you accepted ("Terms of Service"), any discussion at all of that method of oftaining a game is forbidden.

He did not need to "pirate the game."  You did not mention if your friend tryed downloading from EA download manager/store (Which is free if you own the game retail.)

Here's what I do now with certain games it may work for you or not..With Vista x64 and Windows 7x64,even Winxp x64 I install all my games to the C:Users/Public Folder as many games that have to connect to the internet,or for online play even non online play, with the x64 systems will work in here, Many games Like my World of warcraft and BF2 run better in here due to access rights and such. If you have a disk of the game open the disk create a folder on your desltop and drag all the files into that folder with copy command,if it says you have a same file do you want to copy over it just say yes,as there usualy just sames files..then try installing from the files you just dragged onto your desktop. Again it may or may not work. If it doesnt work from your dvd drive you can try updating the Adaptec (aspi) drivers these are drivers that help dvd/cd drives comunicate with windows, sometimes they need to be updated or certain drives have a harder time talking to windows ( warning though doing this could ruin your dvd/cd drive [hasnt ever for me but theres always a possibility]) http://www.afterdawn..._tools/aspi.cfm your call, as for the digital downloads not sure there I would say turn off all antivirus/spyware programs etc before downloading and during install as these can always and I have seen have nasty effects when trying to install games and programs. Anyways not sure if this helps any of you but It is what I have done with alot of systems and seems to work just about all of the time...again doing any updateing at your own risk...if you have an older system you might even want to think about updateing the bios if there is an update out there, again at your own risk. Good luck hope they get a 1.04 patch out soon that works myself:)  ALso with Windows7 as mention the run as admin wors and turn off or down the protection control.

I just tried reinstalling dragon age for a second playthrough thinking of getting the awakening pakage and after what seemed like a smooth installation it came up with this

"The installation of Dragon Age: Orgins has failed.

Unable to find data file, or disk has been removed".

I re tried a few times but it came up with this again and again i also treid deleting my old saves wich it let me keep when i uninstallled it but that did not work either.

First note that the resolution appears to be keyed on DEP (Data Execution Prevention). However, I am going to list all the things EA Support had me perform to eliminate any variables.  Again, these steps are applied from the perspective of having downloaded via EADM.  Here we go:

(Note: I have Vista 32-bit so please use any counterparts to these steps for other OS)

1) You are going to have to download the game again.  Delete the cache files by clicking the red "x" button in EADM next to the download
2) Create a folder called "EADM" in your "C:>User>UserName>Documents" folder
3) Right click on the EADM icon in taskbar (bottom right on most machinces), select settings, and point your download path to this new location
4) close EADM completely by right clicking on same icon and choosing exit
(note: the above steps may not be key to this but we should try to follow all steps. this option can help get passed certain UAC controls)

5) Hit the Windows button and "R" key to open the RUN bar, type in "msconfig", click Okay
6) Select the "Tools" Tab
7) Scroll down to "Disable UAC" option, highlight this option and click "Launch"
8) You should be asked to restart your system

(ok...now this next step I think was key to resolving the issue)

9) Open the Control Panel and Select "Advance System Settings" (or you can right click on the "Computer" icon on your desktop (the old "My Computer"), if you have it and select "Properties"
10) You now have the "System Properties" panel open - many of you are already familiar with this
11) Go to the "Advanced" tab
12) Under "Performance" section click the settings button
13) The "Performance Options" panel should now be open
14) Goto the "Data Execution Prevention" (DEP) tab
15) it's important to follow the next steps closely to make sure the right file is selected
16) Click the Radio button next to the "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:" option. The box below it should activate
17) Click the "Add" button below the box that enables you to browse for executables
18) Browse to the following directory or the like "C:>Program Files>Electronic Arts>EADM"
19) Choose the application named simply "Core" (there's a green EA ball icon next to it)
20) Click Open
21) In the Box on the "Performance Options" below DEP radio buttons you should now see "EA Download Manager" with a check box next to it and a check in that box
22) Click apply and okay to close the panel
23) I can't recall if it prompts for a restart at this point but I suggest you do this regardless.

24) Once your machine restarts you can now reopen EADM and redownload the game -then install.  You may want to check the options again to make sure the download path is correct.  The game should install fine now.

My thinking here is that for others that have had issue with the digital downloads they can use a variation of the above steps.  For instance, I have used D2D often and know that they have their own download manager.  You may choose to add that executable to the DEP bypass option above.  You may want to redirect the download path for this game as well, but i think it general defaults to the user>\\\\\\\\downloads folder or the like anyway.

I apologize, but I can't think of an option for those installing from disk. I recommend logging a ticket with EA Support if you don't have success, as well as others that find the above steps unsuccessful.  I found them very responsive.

I hope everyone has success!

The above is the EA Support answer for the EA digital download of the game.  The hard copy answer ends, if no other fix works (per many threads with Data Error in the topic), by suggesting getting this digital copy . .

This is a joke, I cant believe there is a thread like this. EA should have this fixed, if they can't do that - then the need to send physical discs to their customers. There should be NO reason that a customer has to go through these steps of troubleshooting for a product they purchased and expected to install without error. This looks to be a real problem. I've submitted by EA Support request and am waiting to see what kind of technical support I receive. I'll make mention on this thread - rediculous, utterly rediculous.

It's ridiculous, with two i's, and you have seen only the tip of the iceberg ( http://social.biowar.../forum/1/search ):

"Your search for « data error » returned 13 result/s."

One such thread contains this information about the hard copy variation of failed install:

(Created 2 months ago)

Something on the game disks is incompatible with some optical drives (in my case, with Plextor DVD drives, which forced me to take extraordinary measures. Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 also acted up the same way.

I tried copying to folders on the hard disk (two folders for the two Mass Effect 2 disks), and that didn't work. I ended up using the Sony DVD drive on my older PC that is used for File and Print serever chores on the LAN, and installed across my LAN from there to the game boxes in another room here.

You can swap DVD drives from one PC to another, borrow an external DVD drive to use, do what I had to do, or get set up at the EA store for downloads, for which the hard copy's CD-Key will unlock a digital download that doesn't have that disk error.

I've got this issue as well, and I've installed this game on here twice, but had to uninstall because the DLC kept failing (Which I'm pissed about, i paid good money for that) and now it's failing. I'm PISSED. This needs to be fixed.

Everything you need to know about this EA disk defect is already included in the thread you added your comment to, including the digital download; you just skipped past it. When you want to complain next time, be sure where you are, first:

"This forum is for fans and owners of Dragon Age: Origins to assist each other with technical questions. Official game support is provided by Electronic Arts, but fans are encouraged to try to assist each other here."

This thread is basically about trying to perform the install.  You already did that.  The "stopped working" error message isn't about the install, it's about your hardware and software environment that the game is attempting to run in, and a separate problem report, completed to an adequate extent to attempt a diagnosis, is needed when that happens:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/2836375

P. S.  I see that you joined the Social Forums a month ago.  Have you had the game working before now on some other, different computer?  Or did you join for Mass Effect 2, and get DA a month later?  (Sorry about that, console players, I never even thought about any other platform, considering where we are right now.)
