As stated, I tried your method today and it did not work.

I'm sorry to hear that.  What type of machine/OS do you have?

I'm interested to see how things work out, because like you I made several attempts to get this to work I tried the changes EA told me to make.  I certainly understand your frustation and I hope you get it to work soon.

Regardless, I think my point about not messign around with the files is probably still valid.  It appears to be something to do with system settings for certain machines.

I would just like to commend the people of this forum. It is really refreshing to see people stepping up and actually trying to help others with issues instead of the garbage-talk and bashing that you see in other games. Like the poeple who have no issues and their games run fine that feel the need to come in and downplay legitimate issues that others are having. I have seen none of that here. This appears to be a great community.

I am running the game fine & playing now but it didn't start out that way. I had this exact same issue when I bought the CE and brought it home and attempted to install it. I tried it in different drives and nothing seemed to work and I was extremely upset. I got very frustrated in trying to contact EA or in getting any kind of support so I just decided to start farting around with stuff on my own. I am a PC moron and definitely not a Tech-minded person but I will try to relay as best I can what worked for me.

I copied all the files to my Hard Drive and then tried to do a manual install and it still did not work. I accidentally found a log page that showed where there was some problems with RAR files. I did not know what those were but called my brother and he expalined it to me. So I went and downloaded WinRAR to unzip the files. I then right-clicked on the SetUp/Installer icon for DA:O in the files that I had placed on my Hard Drive and selected to run it as Admin (for WindowsVista). I also clicked on the Direct X thing on the opening installer before I attempted the installation. The installation went fine and I am now playing.
I do not know how or why this worked but this is what I did after trying at least 6 times and having failures. I just wanted to chime in and let people know that there is hope.

I am running Windows Vista 64-bit and have the Collector's Edition.

If your stuff works on one computer but not another then it is not a 'bug' that someone needs to fix.

If you have the disk version and it fails, chances are there is something on one system causing the failure.

If you have the digital version and it fails, it is either something on your system or the download didn't function correctly and needs to be re-downloaded.

Try a clean boot:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
Look for Disk Drive firmware updates.
etc.

Good point Beard Papa  - kinda what I was trying to make but better.

For EADM downloads, at least try the change to the DEP settings as I laid out exactly, but you must clear your EADM cache first before redownloading.  To be sure,  you can check C:>Progam Data>Electronic Arts>EADM  (Not "Program Files").  Delete the whole folder if you want.  Also, you can go so far as reinstalling EADM before making these changes.

I am suspicious of conflicts in the install code with the firmware in various DVD drives.  I tried two DVDs that were in one system I have (this one), and both failed the same way, at close to the same point (TDK branded, but different models).  Then, I tried another PC I have, and it worked just fine.  Eventually to get it installed into THIS PC, the one I'm using now, as I write this, I had to try installing across the LAN, and although it was very slow, it worked.

If you have no other PCs in your homes, the way I have, can any of you borrow an external DVD drive from a friend / family member and try to use that?

How do you go about installing across the LAN?

I'm running 32 bit Vista. It's cool and I appreciate the help and I'm usually very patient but this has sort of frustrated me beyond my limit. :P

Share a DVD player over the Network. Insert the Disc in one PC, install on the other...

It's just about that.... I think....

I tried eclark's method, and it still didn't work .. Installation Failed!: Data error

I ran a WinRAR test on campaign_vo_english.rar and I'm receiving a CRC error on ntb100cr_elf_female.fsb. The file is corrupt

Does anyone have a non-corrupted version of this file you can send?

Thanks.
p.s. Thank you to everyone who has been posting and trying to help!

I have tried every one of the suggestions with no luck. 2 and a half days of trying to get this to work.Just release a full 15 gig download that doesn't have to be unpacked and there would be no more problems.Neither the Disk or the download options work for me. Get the data error at random spots. All my DlC attached to my account but cant play. Can we get an update that this is being worked on.

I'd be more than willing to sit through a 15 gig unpacked download considering I've already downloaded twice that amount at this point.

Also, my roommate has decided to pick up a copy on his way home from work so I guess I get the disc version to play around with now.

For the record, it's always the same files that I have problems with every time. In the core.rar it's the textures.erf, gui.erf, modelmeshdata.erf, and anims.erf files and in the textures.rar file it's both texturepack.erf files.

Well, i downloaded it from EA and it worked perfect. Seems like it was my disc that was broken. That's a bummer. I hope i'll get the replacement sometime soon. Not that i really need it, now...

Yes just enter your DVD serial in the EA downloader.

Heeeyy.. I didn't know about that! But you're right!

Just typed in the serial from my retail copy in EADM and it's now registered to my EA account. I can at least try downloading the thing through EADM.

Thank you very much.

Was doing the same and it worked !! Well a couple of more tips.

- Copy your dvd
- extract all rar files manual
- I had to copy 2 files from another computer (daorigins.exe and daoriginsgdf.dll) these files were mentiones to have a bad crt when "unrarring" them. Maybe it also works if you try to unrar them again and cross fingers
- don't hit the setup as at first he wanted to instaal again and if you do that and fail you can start alover again (unless you specify another directory) after a failed setup it removes te game directory again ^^
- Just go to the directory data\\bin_ship and run daorigins as admin (donno if the admin part is really necessary)
- Than I had a physx...dll he couldn't find. Just upgrade your video driver (i had to update my geforce 8500 graphics driver.
- And now i can play !!!:D

finally ...... only took me 4 hours ...... 4 times a install etc...

p.s. don't know if its necessary but I was about to download the game again and registered my serial via de eadm (EA download manager). Don't think you have to do that step but just in case ... After intalling the EADM and register my product it showed that Dragon age was fully installed. Don't know if that tells something but hence i tryed so many things that i don't know what is important anymore.

I was finally able to install the game by messing around with the files included in the download. What I ended up doing is just deleting every file inside the .rars that was giving me a corrupt error and try the install again. If you delete the .rars themselves then the installer will not work and asks you to insert disc 1 but you can actually delete every file in a .rar and it'll install fine (if you try this I strongly suggest making a back up first). The install was then successful and so from there I just opened the game directory and copied over any missing files from my roommate's install of the game. It took a very long time and was pretty complicated since I was having problems with multiple files but in the end it worked and I can play the game now.

Now the game can't see I'm connected to the internet, so I can't login, etc. It's the game that keeps on giving..

Does everyone who is having these issues have a 64 bit OS? I'm having the same problem and when I looked into the file I got an error from the EA proxy downloader saying that it is uncompatible with 1 64 bit OS (in my case Vista 64)...

Re-downloading the game solved the problem for me. Looks like the pre-load option was somehow broken - some files were corrupted during unpacking. I hope this will help you.

I'm glad to hear you got it installed, sucks about the login situation though. I still cannot install from disk, or EADM, unfortuantely. Still getting that damn installation failed! Data Error message.
