Vivienne Discussion Thread (Possible Spoilers)

She seems to be of Rivani descent. Her hat's resemblance to Qunari/ horns may be her thumbing her nose at the Qun cutting the horns off their mages.
Also as someone who seen mages chained and stiched up she would be more forgiving of the circle's practices, while early education that mages are dangerous things she could see the need for control of mages that the circle provides.

I'm pretty sure she will be able to show her face with another outfit. I don't think you need to worry.DarthLaxian wrote...
if she always changes her face-wear into an orlesian-mask, then i will just not give her any, end of story (sorry, but i just don't like that mask all that much...hell it is not hideously ugly, but i still like to see the face of people i am working
with and/or talking to (and, as far as we know, she has no reason to hide her face and being a mage of the circle, the game (of the nobles in orlais) should not apply to her, so no reason to wear such a mask at all)

It appears she has been confirmed as Orlesian.
Of course one or both of her parents may have been Rivaini.

So she may come from a wealthy family or she is the Posh Spice of Dragon Age.
Anyway the more you look like a clown the more powerful you're supposed to be in Orlais.
It's just like those exotic animals who are flashy to scare predator away.
Wonder if Vivienne and scribe girl are related ...
Scribe girl also looks Orlesians and fancy .

Yeah I've seen it say that she is from Orlais, whether that means she was born there or that just where she was last would be the key.

What is it about magical women and repeated letters?

A-anyway I think I like her potential! It's hard to judge her based on the small amount of information we have, but first impressions are good. I don't necessarily see the hints that have been made pointing towards her being a 'witch with a b' so much as her being a strong, opinionated woman who isn't going to put up with bollocks in a world where she's surrounded by it.
Those are just my impressions, though. We really don't know enough to properly say what she's like...

She did write Merrill, so there's hope there. Of course, Gaider wrote Alistair, Morrigan and Anders, so there might not be that many direct commonalities... still, things may be looking good.
Mary also wrote Varric, Sten, Ser Cauthrien and, I believe, the majority of Loghain. So she certainly knows how to work her characters. The sugary sweet ones and the not-so-sugary sweet.

I confess I have sort of a romantic preference for the former, which may have something to do with the fact that actual sweetness is a trait that the PC can almost never have.Dirgegun wrote...

That's actually something I would love to see done more often. Yeah, our character will become the leader of the Inquistion/the hero/the whatever the game dictates, but there's no reason they shouldn't be able to be sweet.
Edit: And so I don't take the thread off topic...
This is simple speculation as we can't make proper predictions on her character while we know so little, but... seeing she's pro-circle, how do you think she'll get along with Cassandra, Vivienne Discussion Thread?

It'd certainly be an interesting twist on dialogue possibilities usually given to the PC.Dirgegun wrote...

Being "sweet" requires a lot. In terms of having a very different intoation as VA, and character actions.. it's brutally expensive. Like the violent psychopath option Bioware loves throwing into games.

Not necessarily. After seven years, so 18 + 7, Bethany becomes first enchanter.
Bethany became senior enchanter, not FE (forgot about Orsino?).

And it would have been nice to have Bethany as an LI.
But I know Bethany as a full team mate was never a possibility since BioWare doesn't want to spend ages working on characters that might have died in a previous game. It's the whole reason ME2's characters got such a raw deal in ME3.

I'm sure I'll find this Vivienne interesting when the game hits, but I would have preferred to have Bethany or Morrigan back. Or both. Those two characters personify the beautiful, kind-hearted white witch and the practical, power-hungry dark witch.

Bethany as a kind-hearted white witch?...sorry, but for me she is almost as stupid as that female mage in the tower in DA:O you could convince to become tranquil -.- hating her power (she would love not being a mage), liking the circle (who likes being locked up - even if you get a golden cage with Wardens that hate you (Kirkwall was really bad of course, worse then most other circles), beat and rape you at their leasure and make you tranquil if they so choose...really, who in their right mind would like that?)
and Morrigan is not dark or bad either, she is INSECURE, plain and simple (she has never been near people much, let alone real civilization (cities instead of simple villages!), she was brought up by Flemeth who taught her many usefull things but also weighed her down with a lot of baggage!) and that makes her act ****y and aggressively (she is a frightened child inside a grown woman's body with powerfull magic at her disposal!)
greetings LAX
ps: I hope Vivienne is not stuck up (like you would expect orlesian nobility to be)...not that i would hate her for it, but Cullen is stuck up enough for me IMHO (and he will hate my character at first, too (mage!!!))

I doubt it will happen, due to target audience.

We got to see a bit of Vivienne today. She made a strong first impression.
To me she seemed:
Self-confident
Haughty
A bit Saucy
She comes off as a woman who thinks highly of herself and isn't afraid to let others know it. In some ways, this is like Miranda, but I don't think she'll be an 'ice queen.'
What do you think?
