Sounds interesting. I don't think we've heard all that much about the Loyalist fraternity, so perhaps Vivienne will give us a more in-depth look.

Wynne and Finn weren't enough?

Not sure about Finn, but Wynne wasn't a loyalist, she was an Aequatarian. Loyalists are like Keili, the crazy mage who you can convince to become Tranquil. Vivienne makes me think she might too be an Aequatarian, or a Lucrosion, since surely in Orlais, there are more of them.

What makes this character pro-Circle? Just because she was in line to become the next First Enchanter doesn't mean that shes pro-Circle. Base on what I've collected shes essentially pro mage. Nothing has resurface as of yet indicating that she agrees with the Circle.

Well its come from the article, which has come direct from the devs mouths who say shes pro-circle. So I guess she is pro-Circle unless they explicitly state otherwise.  We know very little of her other then a picture and a few statements so its a lot more intrigue right now.

Although I think she would be pro-Circle because thats what she has experienced her whole life, it also works in tandem for the leading mage to believe in the system that is in place.  We saw what happened in DA2 when the system collapsed.  There is a case to say she probably just doesn't know any better. Whether you can change her perspective during the course of the game could be interesting. Especially as things will never go back to simply as it was.

I'm curous to read this article. Where can I read it? I must of missed it.

I like how all our circle mages' names end in nn/nne. Well except Anders, who probably ran away because he didn't fit in.

Goodness, that hat is... something. Anyway, I don't mind if Vivienne is haughty, but I hope that she's not as annoying as Velanna. :-)

When I think of the name Vivienne the first thing that comes to mind is Vivienne Westwood.  So it's a great name for someone who wears over-the-top outfits.  It has something of an Arthurian ring to it too.

Merkit91 wrote...

I'm kinda disturbed by her mask - similar to the one Architect wore.
Wonder if she have similar reasons to wear it.

In Orlais nobles wear masks in public and their servants wear a simplified version to show which noble house they belong to.  People who don't wear masks are either above it (The Grand Divine, Templars like Evangeline) or are nobodies.   What confuses the issue is that she's a circle mage hence also outside of the Game, at least in theory.  It looks more like a mask-like makeup rather than an actual mask to me, though.

I am keen to know if she's a human or an elf. Do we have any info on that yet?

dunno yet...i might like her..but with my experiences with mages from DAO and DA II seems like a small chance.Wynee was actually the only companion mage i ever liked...
Vivi's outfit looks more like something u would wear to a reception then on the batllefield..more reasons to dislike Orlais..i guess i'll need more info on her

I love her outfit, it looks very Orlaisian (sp?). She sounds intriguing. Can't wait to hear more.

And I think Laidlaw confirmed it on Twitter. One of the devs did anyway.

Yeah, it was confirmed on twitter, she's human.

Part of the GI article says she's pro-Circle and it sounds like she's feeling lost now that the Circle system has crumbled. I think she's probably a Loyalist, which generally means strong pro-Chantry leanings. I can imagine that the end of the old Circle system would be very disorientating and distressing for a Loyalist; they may not agree with the war, but the Templars are likely to kill them just as quickly as any other mage. It sounds like she's trying to find a way to help the mages, but probably wants that to involve the return of a Circle system.

Never thought much of Loyalists before, but who knows, maybe she'd be the kind of character who could bridge both sides of the conflict.

I'm hoping she's a Libertarian. That's still a pro-Circle ideology.

I dunno...  Here, I'll quote from the article.

"That is a character that has a very specific view on the role of circles and the Chantry," says senior writer Luke Kristjanson.  "As someone who is extremely pro-circle, what is left for that person when that entire system crumbles?"

This could be my favorite companion. I have been waiting for this kind of mage. One who understands the importance of the current Circle system and seeks to use it as a piece in a larger plot for mage prosperity. She does not at all sound like a Loyalist and I am thrilled. And from what I understand about her personality, she absolutely will not allow the Libertarians to dominate mage politics furthur or the outcome at Andoral's Reach. She sounds as though she has the by-any-means-necessary approach of a Libertarian but has the exact opposite goal of that fraternity. Interesting dynamic. And imagine the banter-- Anders' level disdain and sarcasm aimed at the Libertarians. Sign me up. And she is a PoC! I'm excited about this character.

Wait does it mean that Luke is writting her, if he's talking about her in the mag?

I'm also all confused about the pro-Circle here. She's pro-mage, but it appear that she's not anti-Chantry...

It seems like she's pro-mage but feels that the best thing for mages is to be part of the Circle system. Like a Loyalist.

Some people would probably say that's not pro-mage at all, but since she's a mage herself I would guess her opinion matters.  Image IPB

It will be interesting to see how she feels about things at the end of all your travels. Yesterday's video hinted that we'll be digging up some pretty dirty Chantry secrets!

I'd encourage her to use them as bargining chips to institute a reformed Circle of Magi under the Chantry, saving one or two for future blackmail purposes.

I get the impression that "pro-Circle" does not mean "pro-Chantry" in this case. The little info given together with some tweets appear to indicate that she's what I would call "pro-mage". Not necessarily a Libertarian but "You'll end up on her wrong side if you insist that mages are walking time bombs" sounds pro-mage to me.

Apart from that, I get the impression of a haughty demeanor somewhat dismissive of people who don't measure up to some standard.

Not enough information to know if I'll become a fan but I'm prepared to like her.

Does that quote about walking bombs come from somewhere?

I'm guessing that this character's race is an Elf.

In a tweet from Mike or David it's been confirmed she is a human.

I suppose I'm imagining her (albeit with VERY little to go on at this point) as someone who is probably very competent and worked very hard to rise to her current position. She's probably proud of that. I also think she probably cares deeply about other mages, and believes that she--and she alone--can protect them and do what's best for them (which could lead to significant angst on her part, as she holds herself to an unrealistically high standard). I think she will be assertive and opinionated because she's learned that leading requires action (and she WAS in line to be the First Enchanter).
