Wait. Looked at the Tumblr snap shot of the article. Is she being written by Luke Kristjanson? Didn't he write Aveline? Whelp, there goes the chance for a romance with Vivienne...

And... written by the same guy who did Aveline, one of my favorite Bioware character ever, I'm liking this mage more and more.

And I loved Aveline as well. Easily the best female lead of the game. While I feel the lack of romance with her was handled poorly and was, generally, nonsensical, I'm really just having a fun poke at Luke, no malice intended. I was among many who was excited at the prospect of romancing Aveline when she was revealed before we knew how Luke and David intended to write her and give everyone who was into her a not so subltle narrative middle finger, so I'm actually glad to know in advance that he's writing her so I don't get my romantic hopes up no matter how strong, beautiful, and endearing Vivienne turns out to be.

Is Mary the author of Vivienne?

Found this in the twitter thread (courtesy of ElitePineCone) ... and the character referred to is female (Could it be Vivienne?)

I just want to see her properly. Aything regarding personality and such I just want to experience in the game itself.

I was thinking more of female version of Fenris and Anders combined.

Merrill certainly needed a reality check, but I liked Daisy.

See you keep using this Tweet, but there's really nothing indicated it has anything to do with Vivienne and it wouldn't really make sense for them to ask Luke about Vivenne in the Game Infomer article if he wasn't writing her. David piping in is one thing, but he comments on all the characters usually at some point given that he'slead writer. More likely Mary is writing either Cassandra for Inquisition, or she's writing the other rumored female companion Sera. So please, stop throwing up this Tweet every fifteen seconds.

H-Uh. Given something I read from Laidlaw and that article in the Game Informer issue I was convinced it was Luke. Apologies then. Actually, I couldn't be happier to be wrong! Mary wrote Merrill and she was easily one of the best characters and romances in the game. Now I'm *really* excited for Vivienne.

Given that Mary wrote Sten, Merrill, and Verric, I assume Vivienne's personality will be... something I'll discover while playing the game.

If she's not comparable to Wynn I get the feeling she's gonna be the crotchety type of old woman.

Judging from what we can see of her, she's not an old woman.

I think Vivienne is the sort of character to have vastly different concept art to the version shown in game.

No concept art of Vivienne was shown so far. The female 'scribe' in the survey and in the concept art shown in the second GI interview is a different character.

I know, Gaider replied to my post speculating just that. :wub:This is just more speculation on my part, as I've been going over the concept art for other companions and I'm eager to see Vivienne's.

At about 1:17 in this gameinformer vid you can see some gameplay of Vivienne (controlled by the player) torching some fools with a fire spell.

I'm going to guess that it's Sera. Apparently she's a brat.

I look forward to confrontations with her if I put on a pro-templar attitude (meaning mages should die, not imprisoned).

She may have Rivaini or Antivan heritage, but she's most likely culturally Orlesian. Think Leliana.

Her origins and much of her background are not known yet.

Vivienne is the English spelling of the name Viviane, which has French origins and means 'Alive.' Given that the character has a French-sounding name, it may suggest that she is Orlesian by birth if not by ethnic origin.

That being said, the character is dark-skinned. Assuming for a moment that she is Orlesian, that could either mean that her ethnic origin is Rivaini or from another dark-skinned people who have not yet been mentioned in the lore. Or she could be of a mixed ethnic origin like Duncan or Leliana, and for example have a Rivaini father and an Orlesian mother, or vice versa.
