I didn't, so the news that the combat in DA3 will be "slower and less frantic" good news to me. I agree that DA:O had somewhat sluggish and unresponsive combat, but i still prefer the more "realistic" animation sets compared to DA2, which clearly set out to look more "awesome".

I think it looked childish, ridiculous and completely out of place. I remember a specific instance in the game where you had to fight some beggar types after a short conversation. Its was hilarious to see these common folk with cockney accents suddenly start doing teleporting backstabs, somersaults and other super fast and acrobatic slashes at you. It simply didnt mesh with the "mature & dark" themes of the game.

Would you guys prefer a return to more realistic looking combat, or did you prefer DA2s approach? Keep in mind that im not talking about the responsiveness of the combat, just the animations.

Honestly, I didn't have much of an issue with the DA2 animations but I can see where people who hated it are coming from. I really wouldn't mind animations that are a mix of the two. Frankly, I'll be happy so long as some of the mage staff animations either stay or new (but varied) ones get implemented.

yea i really liked the Combat in DAO and really hated it in DA2 (felt like i was in Dynasty warriors or something) but a mix of both is perfect since the combat was really slow in DAO.

The rogue combat was something out of power rangers. Back flips and all sorts of other nonsense.

DA2 combat for rogues was my favourite, it was fast and entertaining. Warriors? not so much. It was a bit too fast, DAO in this case was better. Mages - same as warriors, but animation was really awesome.

Yeah. In origins they were just super boring, but way over the top in dragon age 2.

That's a bit ambivalent here.

I certainly did not find the over the top animations to be to my liking, but the increased pace of combat was actually a good deal satisfying.

If DAI finds a middle ground of more true-to-nature animations and a combat pace in between DAO and DAII whilst still retaining the engagement of DAII and the tactical requirement of DAO, then we have rocksolid gameplay I dare prognose.

The combat in DA2 was quite lame and exaggerated, id prefer the old DA:O system anyday, they could then put en the extra effort elsewere.

Actually, in DA2, enemies used Origins animations, except backflipping rogues when going into stealth, archers aiming and most mages attacks, anyone else it was the old Origins.
Thats the only thing that I disliked, the different animations for enemies and friendlies (I loved when that pierrot from MOTA attacked with the party rogue style)

Same animations for friends, foes and enemies would be perfect, I don't really care about flashiness and DA2 speed didn't bother me.

A mix from both previous games is what I hope for. Some more tactic feel and realism from DAO and the more responsive and not so slow feel from DA2. The speed and animations was a bit over the top in DA2 and please can we get the option for a more over the top tactical view to survey the battle field when we feel the need for it?

I enjoyed dragon age 2's combat over dragon age origins, but that's more cause I reeally hate origins slow lumber movements, slow sword swings, and the whole rts styls combat of older rpgs.

I hope inquisition manages to strike a good balance without going too far in the old direction.

I'd prefer the combat style and controls to be somewhere between the two, mixed with a little Dragon's Dogma and Amalur for good measure.

I thought some of the flipping around for Rogues in DA2 was over the top, I did like the mage flourishes during casting though, and I thought the animations for the 2-handed weilders was rather silly. Also, the exploding bodies was silly.

DAO was a little slow and mundane. And really, a rogue dual weilding long swords?

Hoping for a good mix of speed and special animations without them being too silly.

I'm ALWAYS amused by the "that's not realistic" chage against warriors (and especially rogues) yet no-one blinks an eye when a mage lets loose a Storm of the Century.

As for the "anime" charge, I suggest you read more Western mythology like Beowulf or even greek epics (seriously, Beowulf has an anime powerup stage straight out of DBZ and the actual physical feats of prowess for greek heroes would make your typical anime ninja jealous).

Using two full lenght swords isn't really outlandish. The japanese warrior Musashi Miyamoto pioneered and constituted the nitenryuu, the school of fighting with two swords. Whilst that was originally the classical gear combination of the full lenght Katana and the backup short sword Wakazashi simultanously, the school lateron also incorporated the use of two full lenght swords.

In europe on the other hand, it wasn't uncommon to fight with sword and short axe or hammer/mace or any combination thereof, especially in times when armies started to combine heavily armored knights and lightly armored (if at all armored with more than a leather jerkin, maybe some chainmail) for the common footsoldiers. Hammer/mace for the armored enemies, axe/sword for the soft targets.

I didn't mind DA2 combat. It might not be realistic, but if it looks and feels good, so what.

The waifish Fenris waving around a sword that weighed as much as him was amusing.

Mage was good. Warrior was just hack n' slash. Rogue was just over the top.

I liked both battle systems. They were different, but that's not a bad thing. I actually hope mages don't go back to DA:O for basic attacking though, it was more exciting to play a regular staff mage in DA2.

While I do love the fast paced and over the top action that you see in anime. But even I have to admit that the animations in DA2 were effing stupid. It overall was just too big of a transition.I mean you go from DA:O, which has alot slower combat animation, to all of a sudden having warriors charging an enemy like Superman and Rogues jumping and twirling around like movie ninjas. And wha's the point in having Mages twirl their staffs and having to do all those complicated movements just so they can auto attack. So to answer your question, No! I hated it!

So long as we don't see that stupid spinning animation most warrior/rogue enemies did, I'm fine.
