Did you prefer the more manga-like combat animations in Dragon Age 2?

Not to mention the constant jumping and back flipping. It tried waaaay too hard to be "cool".

Geez...do people not realize just how over the top western mythological heroes were when fighting monsters?
Aren't we supposed to be emulating THAT?
Very few of them were vanilla humans, though. Nothing in the lore points to fighters having such advantages, or wuxia being available (hence I had no issues with Jade Empire combat, it was part of the setting). Storm of the Century followed Thedas magic rules (DA2 mages didn´t...), and so do most of the other fantasy aspects of the game. It´s a matter of internal consistency, fantasy # everything is allowed.
Except that you would not FIGHT as you imagine humans do when the opponent is darkspawn and creatures that can pick up a shack.

its not like i don't want over the top cool stuff like finishers and disintegration, but keep the Japanese influence away from my games, I don't want my sword to have lazor trails while it slashes and i don't want my arrow to fire like a photon torpedo
The BSN blaming Japanese influence for what they didn't like in DA2 and using the terms anime, manga and Japanese as insults really pisses me off and is one of the reasons why I left the BSN for a year.
don't get ur pannies in a bunch I said I don't like it, i just hate thier fighting/game style hell im a huge anime fan (full metal alchmest is baws) but I can't stand thier games it all PEPPWPEPEPWEPWEPEPWEPWEPPEPEPWEP lazor power ranger insane super mutant nijna magic space stuff
DA:I should be more 'realistic" in comabt animatons and more gorey and dark, it could sure use a speed boost but not the crazy lameness in DA2
Typical BSN ignorance.

And tromping around, back hunched over, every attack looking exactly the same was better how???
I'll take visually interesting over stats any day. If I want to do stats I'll save the 50 bucks and play my table top instead.

I simply assumed Hawke was great at soccer!
Okay okay, rogue combat kind of reminded me of Patrick Swayze in Steel Dawn. A loooot of unnecessary flourishes.

Tales of Vesparia for one, unless you're doing one of the major attacks, and while I'm at it, last I remember I don't think my all time favorite Robotech (or Macross) had uber fights unless you count the "movie" that was filmed on the SDF-1.
I'm surprised we're getting on Japanese entertainment and no one is going off about Hong Kong action films, which have a hell of a lot more of this kind of thing than even anime does.
And what, pray tell, is realistic for a FANTASY, Tarek? Or to quote the swordmaster from the set of LoTR "Well, my boy, this is the MOVIES!"

Swinging a giant sword like 3 times per second? No thanks
It should be one strike per 3 seconds or something.
At least for me.

You said it looked stupid (won't use the word you use because it's damn insulting, just like the thread title) I'm just pointing out that DAO looked as stupid in its own way and was a hell of a lot less interesting to look AT in general. The spin kicks and bamfing were a hell of a lot better than I move from one place to another and I hit things. And I don't see the people saying that DA2 combat sucked complain about the sync combats that were even worse considering you had no control over when they happened AND they broke combat flow. Like the round house we any less realistic or stupid looking than scrawny Gray Warden in leather armor being able to get up the speed to knock over an opponent that out masses him/her quite a bit. And of course there's the dragon finisher... In DA2 when you did something, you DID it, reaction was instant and obvious, and attacks were well differentiated. You don't like it, fine, but you might want to consider your wording next time.

Actually the Warden tended to look like he was coming out of the clown car... DAO combat animations weren't the be all end all, and DA2's weren't as bad as you like to portray. And being insulting both to those of us who liked it, and using terms that are insulting in general, just demeans yourselves.

I've no idea why you feel insulted because I called the animation retarded, which isn't directed at you or anybody else at all. For the love of god grow some skin.Ariella wrote...

And what, because I feel like the characters look like clowns means I prefer the Origins animation? Guess what, I don't feel like that either. The Mage animation looked like they were some old grannies who couldn't walk straight.

DAO's combat wasn't great either, but I would prefer it to DA2's over the top, anime style combat
Mages and Archers were the only thing I consider a proper improvement in DA2

After I missed the nth CCC because that damn idiot made an unnecessary twirl instead of casting a spell, I decided that no, they didn´t. DA:O was boring but practical, DA2 the opposite.
