so the race/class combo effectively becomes the new background choice (along with all the subsequent reactivity).
Good, I like it.

So will the Kossith/Qunari be a playable race?
I think if there's enough demand for it... it will be in another game. Or as a Qunari would say, "No."

But, I dunno. It would really change the story - a lot. Wouldn't it?
Like, I try to picture playing Origins as Sten, and I could barely figure out what the hell was going on with Sten in Origins at all, as a companion, let alone trying to roleplay as him. And could he have had a normal conversation with practically anyone you met in Origins?
If Inquisition was structured so that playing as qunari made sense, I'd be surprised. (But very impressed.)

I imagine a Qunari, if any, would be someone unfamiliar with their customs. Like someone who was adopted, etc. Just so they could fit in the dialogue without penalizing you.
Then again, some RPGs where low intelligence factored in, meant certain dialogue options out of the question. So there would still be an element of roleplaying within.

Yes, precisely.
The best I can think of is that they brought women and children to Kirkwall and a child wandered off and was taken in by a village.
(I can already think of about 5 things wrong with that.
But, if the clever writers come up with something - consider it YAY from me.

Yes, precisely.I can't imagine how that kind of thing would happen without being really weird.

I totally just made a thread elaborating on the idea.

I'm just sitting here, smiling because I can play as a knife-ear again. I don't mind either dalish or city elf, they're both elves. (Though I have my preferences
What happened to just leaving it to the devs intead of speculating, thinking and creating rumors (though there's nothing wrong with that but it all just seems so confusing by now xD)?
Also, I vote +1000000 for a qunari Inquisitor (though I just KNOW it's not gonna happen QQ) because they look sooooo awesome and I actually understand/at some point agree with their philosophy. (though I didn't play DA2 beyond arriving in kirkwall... goddamn DA2's beginning is BORING)

Human warrior-has a set background story (Former Templar)
Human rogue- set background story (Former spy or master thief)
Dwarven warrior- set background story (Exiled warrior from Orzamaar)
Dwarven rogue-set background story (Born topside former Carta member perhaps)
Mage (whether human or elf) set background story (This is the one that could be disappointing. Do they have time and money to do Elven Apostate, Elven Circle, Human Apostate, Human Circle and so on? Doubtful. That's a lot of origins.)
Elven Warrior- set background story (Dalish Hunter)
Elven Rogue- set background story. (City Elf)
I would imagine these backgrounds are small and written in codex and little parts of it will have re-activity. That would also mean the specializations would come with the race, maybe?
It's Origins...without playing the Origins.

I sort of hope that our specializations are more important than our base classes and races. For example, If you choose to be a ruthless blood mage, the First Enchanters may not want to join your cause because you're exactly the opposite of the image that they want to be presenting Thedas. On the other hand, a blood mage who's willing to get the job done no matter what could easily gain the help of the Grey Wardens.
As a side note, are dwarves absolutely unable to become mages or is it just extremely rare? Because being a dwarven mage would be pretty awesome.

This is getting confusing. This is what I think Gaider means, but of course I could be wrong.

I actually hope not; at least not one for every race and class combination. Not only does it seem complicated and time-consuming for the writers (who really could be working on other things), but it seems too constraining for the players. I rather hope we get more of a vague background that we can fill in with our imaginations, or, at the time, get to fill in just answering a question or two by one or two NPC's.
Like how Eadric can ask the Mage Elf where they were from before coming to the Circle and you can answer from different places (Denerim, Highever, Lothering, "I don't remember.") Or how Morrigan can ask the PC about their mother and you can answer different things ("I love her," "I hate her," "She's dead," "What does it matter?"). Or how Alistair can ask the PC if she's a virgin during romance and she can answer different things ("Yes," "No," "I've licked plenty of lampposts in my lifetime! ;D"). Or how the crazy hermit in the woods can ask different things about yourself and you can give different answers. (Like "Have you ever been in love?" "Yes, long ago." "No, not yet." "Ew, never!" "I think I'm in love now," etc.)
It's just closer to how I hope they handle it.

I agree. I also feel like some characters would not even make mention of your class but could have different reactions to your race, like the Dalish in the brecillian forest who accuse the warden of being an outsider or traveling with outsiders. In the end it doesn't matter all that much, but you still get a feeling that your PC didn't have his or her origin completely disregarded. It subtly adds to immersion without being vastly different. It made a lot of sense to me in DA:O that people rarely made a big fuss about the race/class of the warden; people had a lot of stuff to worry about-- like schleets and swooping.
