It's just alright. Just the combat and story is kinda lame. I'm not even in a guild i'm such a loser lol.
Nothing can replace the first Guild Wars and vanilla WoW in my heart though. <3

They're missing out on THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!

True dat. It's their loss really. :D

And yet Planetside 2 isn't P2P.

If you count that as F2P then you should count ME3 as well because you could keep playing the demo indefinitely... have fun playing against other players with faster, tougher and better armed fighters/tanks/whatever with your... starting unguided rocket launcher? Which any pilot can easily outrun?
Unless you have been playing from day one, your job is to feed the kill count of the established players.

Servers have to be paid for somehow, and the default solution is to make the free game not fun unless people pay up and pay for "optional convenience" (e.g. in SWTOR F2P initially didn't get the "run slightly faster out of combat" skill, presumably before someone at Bioware engaged their brains and noticed that the F2P business model didn't make any sense whatsoever - lack of raid/PVP arena players was killing the game, and they decided to limit the number of raids/arena battles of F2P players)

Ship battles! remember all those neat cut scenes of space fighting! I want in on that action!

Sounds awesome

Would a ME MMO work?

I strongly believe that no MMO can ever possibly work, for the very simple reason that the player's wishes (fun game) are completely at odds with developer incentives (to keep the customers subscribed indefinitely).

There will be padding, and every psychological trick in the book to keep people playing, but ultimately it can never be as much fun as a game made simply to be the most fun game the developers can make.

Not to be nitpicky but ME3 Demo was run off of Battlefield 3 servers, which have since shut down access to Mass Effect 3. So no, you can't...

Usually via microtransactions. I've seen, played a couple of indie MMOs that did pretty well with microtransactions, though then again the games never had a fraction of the fanbase mainstream MMOs have and required less servers with less work going into expansions and patching. To your point, yeah a lot of F2P MMOs use a Pay to Win business model which is a shame. I'd hope a Mass Effect MMO isn't F2P anyways.

Space battles can be pulled off, just not when they are an after thought. Which unfortunately seems to almost always be the case.

I'd like to keep an open mind at least. I don't see a true MMO being possibly but if BioWare could capture the essence of teamwork and synergy that is done so well in successful MMO PvE (basically do what Defiance did... but don't **** it up) and integrate that into the usual awesome Mass Effect gameplay then I could see it working. I picture it being like a bigger version of Borderlands-style gameplay but with actually being able to synergise rather than just having four OP characters murdering everything.

I wouldn't mind they trying to make an ME mmo, simply because they have big enough world for it and even if all players don't play as Shepard, we could still play as N7s or Spectres cleaning up outta space. c:
Though I don't want a WoW clone, never played it and don't wanna start. And please for the love of god, let them run it on new or different servers than what we're trying to make work on Bioware.

If they did make a Mass Effect MMO, I would personally want them to make being a part of N7, STG, etc. and especially the Spectres incredibly hard to do if they included it.

If they included an Asari dating sym with clever use of controller vibration, World of Warcraft would cease to exist within 48 hours.

but STG doesn't have to pay for their own equipment.

and why even bother mentioning Planetside 2? SWtoR and WoW aren't anything like that game.

SWtoR is pretty much WoW with a coat of sci-fi paint on it and the standard BioWare dialogue.

Precisely. It's easy to build an MMO around hack and slash games. World of Warcraft has done it for nine years. However it has always been more difficult to balance shooters (like COD) then medieval games (like Chivalry, just go with it... it's rare you'll see PvP teambased hack and slash games). You can't compare WoW to an ME MMO because quite frankly, if you build them to be comparable an ME MMO the ME MMO would be rediculously unbalanced (PvP) and likely boring as hell (PvE). Afterall you just try balancing Biotics, end-game guns and damage buffs for PvP. PLUS Mass Effect already has a massive imbalance between player and environment you throw in 60 more players in a WoW style and it will be slaughter... or griefing galore.

A Mass Effect MMO would have to have an emphasis on FPS and RPG genres, using it's usually SP gameplay but expanded to integrate massive multiplayer. Like I said they need something akin to Borderlands 2 but with more than 4 players with a few more MMO Elements incorporated into it. They can't just copy WoW and expect it to be a success... because the two genres being expanded are polar opposites.

You could build it around being a hotkey MMO, but then it would likely be around WoW clone which ultimately probably wont do that well because everybody who wants to play WoW is playing WoW.

You also run the risk of pissing a lot of people off, because you just changed the gameplay style of your main series.

Running it as a MMOTPS I think would be better, though I still don't see it happening as long as they have SWtoR going, and I wouldn't be surprised if EA was a little more cautious about making MMOs after what happened with that.

I could see it working. Something like EVE/Dust514, only fully integrated. Or perhaps more like Star Trek Online, with some Planetside 2 thrown in; and a dash of SWTOR for flavour.

The tricky part would be making the 'social' zones feel as alive as they do in the ME games. Traditionally that's not something MMOs are great at for some reason. Maybe if they had somebody who's sole job was to keep shuffling around NPCs, and making new dialogue for them; just to make it seem like the various characters had lives to be getting on with.

Yeah, the PvP vs. PvE thing would be unworkable.  I think it would only have a chance if it were built entirely around PvE.
