I thought the same thing.  My list started with about 30 characters that were being considered/in the discussion for top 10.  Things get too complicated if you start talking about weapons, host/off-host; I guess you just have to assume optimal conditions (minus specific enemies and maps).

I can't narrow it down to 10 classes, but I can list the most dominant ones in each class, excluding the TGI, AIU, and Juggernaut.

Adepts - Drell, Prollector, and Fury

Soldiers - Trooper, Destroyer, Default Turian, Default Humans/BF3 Soldier

Engineers - Geth, QME

Sentinels - Paladin, Default Krogan, Turian

Infiltrators - GI, DI, SI

Vanguards - IMO, all the vanguards fill different roles and none of them are better than any of the others, except the Phoenix, who is the worst vanguard, even though he's not bad.

That list is in no particular order, despite the numbers. I like them each for different reasons, but I rank survivability as a pretty solid quality for my top kits. Also, I'm just so not a fan of Drell or Volus, so I may be a little biased.

Everything is top, played right. Some are easier to do well with than others though. For example a 66653 GT with an Acolyte is probably the easiest easy mode in this game.

The Human Sentinel tops the list because I feel its got a great mix of toughness and offensive power; plus it's easy to use. The others I either just find fun, or I've got niche builds for them that work particularly well on the right map/enemy combinations.

but there's a bunch that are really good that I don't really play. MQI, Geth Trooper, Fury, Asari Valkyrie, Batarian Soldier, Asari Vanguard, Kroguard, Slayer and Drellguard are all top tier but I can't say that from personal experience to be honest.

Also forgot to mention Human Adept 

(If you're referring to the Shadow) TAKE THAT BACK!! N7 Shadow is freaking awesome, and tops scoreboards consistently if played right.  I also hardly ever go down, usually not until the much later waves, and even then it's rare thanks to tac cloak.
