I just picked up a Dungeons and Dragons game bundle and I'm going to give Neverwinter Nights 2 a try this weekend. I'm completely new to the game so all the class options are a little intimidating. I did read that Warlocks work really well by not multiclassing, so I was going to give one a try for my first character.
I also read that they have access to three levels of Hellfire Warlock. I was just wondering what the general pros and cons of taking those three levels versus remaining 'pure' are? I try to look at the class information online but without any exposure to D&D it's a little over my head right now. Appreciate any input.
Quick Warlock question (completely new to D&D)

The pros are to do more damage with your blasts. The cons are mainly CON - that is, the CON damage you do to yourself. This can be mitigated by your teammates' spells or an item.
The summoned Baatezu is also much better than the undead guy, but the undead guy is unlimited and won't turn on you, so ....
Really, there is no reason not to go for Hellfire if you want.
(edit) There is one possible issue, come to think of it. It takes some work to stay evil/chaotic in the Official Campaign. Especially for a new player, this could be a bit of a challenge. Think before your conversation choices, and there is one major decision about 25% through the game that you should take the (clearly) evil path.
Also, some of the Baatezus you might summon are minor spoilers - if you pursue information about them.

That's technically cheating, though, so if you're not willing to cheat, I'd pass on HW. There isn't a huge difference, one way or the other.I_Raps wrote...

It's true that warlocks are better when they stay relatively pure (with or without HW), but a bit of multiclassing is always good. I suggest taking a look at these:

I beg to differ!
"Using the abilities granted by this prestige class carries dangerous consequences. The Consitution damage that results from the use of your powers can be healed, and many hellfire warlocks carry wands of lesser restoration to compensate for the draining nature of their power."
...
"Once you take your first level in this class, it's best to invest in the Use Magic Device skill so you can easily use items that heal the Constitution damage that you take."
...
That's the official rules. Fiendish Codex II

I meant this:
"... if you do not have a Constitution score or are somehow immune to Constitution damage, you cannot use this ability."
That's not how it works in game, though. As you said, healing the CON damage with Restoration or whatever is perfectly legal. Anyway, I was just saying; taking advantage of that or not is up to the player.
