Game Informer's Dragon Age: Inquisition Hub

So there's quite a bit to talk about. Elves and Dwarves are back as playable races, horses are ridable, there's concept art, videos, etc etc.

DISCUSS. :D

MODEDIT:  To those new to this thread, please refrain from commenting (or replying) to posts regarding the closure of the other thread.  I think it's easier to just announce this up front.  Thanks.

August 6th:

September cover revealed! Bioware's fantasy RPG comes roaring back

August 7th update:

A look inside the development of Dragon Age: Inquisition

Watch
the video preview below to learn more about the story of the game, the
odds of your old save carrying over, and how Bioware is developing five
different versions of the game.

The third installment of the Dragon Age franchise casts players as the head of the Inquisition, a recently resurrected organization charged with rooting out corruption and evil in the land of Thedas. As the game begins, the Inquisition has plenty to investigate. War, scheming, and political strife have left the major power groups in the Dragon Age universe unable to operate effectively, which is a problem when a hole opens in the sky and demons begin pouring out. Players must fight back against the demonic threat while exploring a vast world and consolidating power for the growing Inquisition. Large and varied environments, customizable armor, and the return of multiple player races are just a few of the ways BioWare is addressing feedback from previous titles in order to shape a new future for the franchise.

Dragon
Age: Inquisition is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The E3 trailer provided more questions than answers for fans, and we have a whole month of exclusive features lined up covering everything from combat to character creation. To see what's in store, watch the coverage trailer below.

I typed up a summary:

Wants to make the action less frantic and more deliberate, returning to more tactics-oriented approach to encounters. Big return to party-based tactics

Part of that is slowing down speed of attacks, more important is designing enemies that force you to examine the battlefield and choose actions carefully

Battles veer away from button mashing toward a structure where observation and reaction take precedence

Instead of swarming enemies, your foes have specialized roles; work together and force you to size up the battlefield

You won’t regularly see waves of new bad guys appearing out of nowhere to extend encounters

PC gamers getting an optimized version; “PC actually is different, especially from a controls standpoint”, trying to “recapture the very tailored experience of DA:O on PC”

Going from Eastern Ferelden to Western Orlais; repetitive environments are nowhere to be found in DAI like in DA2.

Players aren’t just funneled down narrow corridors, the demo showed a bog, desert, a mountain range, all enormous and freely explored in third person.

Lots of hidden things to find, caves, dungeons, corpses, etc that create other unique sidequests

“Trying to drive exploration- something that frankly, Bioware hasn’t done in a while.” “In a way like Baldur’s Gate, areas that existed in part just to spaces that you went to, but they had a story of their own.”

Want to make sure there a sufficient number of caves in the game that are each unique, and optional. If you have a mage in your group, you can use a spell to reassemble a crumbled bridge to reach a new area.

Can also restore a ruined desert outpost into an Inquisition stronghold

So much ground to cover that mounted creatures are implemented

Monsters, and dragons for example, do not level up with you. Some are vastly more powerful, forcing you to come back later with proper experience

Some environmental destructibility

Warrior class has grappling chain that can pull enemies in close

Enemy scenario: Fighting a massive, armored dragon, you can target a leg, send warrior into melee range to bash off armor, rogue can sneak up and poison the exposed limb, dragon stumbles around allowing others to
unleash spells etc

Weather effects can impact exploration, ex. Rainfall, desert sandstorms

Rainy weather can make areas muddy, slowing down your traversal/agility in combat, while sandstorms can inflict damage causing you to seek shelter

A new mage joins your party, Vivienne

Both Varric and Cassandra also join you

Working hard to make large areas interesting; slopes, rocks, elevations and your character has tailored animations for overcoming each. Ease of movement key.

Morrigan is not a party member; not a cameo role though

Collect resources/materials and craft armor for you and all your party members; heavy emphasis on customization

Each armor retains a certain iconic look, but looks different on each character. They want the squadmates to each have an iconic look, but customize armor to tailor to each while retaining elements of that iconic look

3 classes to choose from of course: Warrior, rogue, and mage

At least 3 races to choose from; when asked about Qunari, Mike Laidlaw says “Do we go to four? I don’t know. Definitely these are the safe bet”.

Your racial choice colors your interactions with others; for example elves may be persecuted in some parts, but an enclave of elves is more likely to open up to one of their own.

Chantry/Templars don’t respect your Inquisition, you have “persuade” them through your own means. You can come across a fortress and if refused entry, you can lay siege to it and break down the doors. What you do from there is your choice.

Hinting that you have a base of operations, maybe a castle to call your own

Dialogue wheel returns, but the team has focused a lot on making the selections accurate to what your character says. They’ve now added an optional addition to the wheel that gives you better idea of what to expect

A lot of loose ends will be resolved in the story; expect full resolutions to things like Red Lyrium, the activities of the Grey Wardens, and Flemeth, and also Morrigan

Working very hard to ensure your saves/decisions will carry over to next-gen consoles

Special Edition Podcast

Podcast Details-

*Dragon Age Keep will allow for multiple world states to be saved for future playthroughs

*Dragon Age Keep will have dozens of choices to be made

*Dragon Age Keep's available choices have yet to be finalized

*Developers are more okay than they were in the past with the fact that some players will miss content that others do not

*Developers are trying to avoid retcons as much as possible

*The player's canon is the only true canon, Bioware simply creates their own for ease of new players

*As revealed at PAX, tactical view is back but this time for ALL platforms, not just PC

*Tactical view adjusts distance and placement based on location(indoors, outdoors)

*Frostbite 3 is a very scalable engine, making it easier for each version next gen and current to look top

*Talent point/Skill point progression will be closer to Dragon Age 2's style than Origins, giving room to explore multiple trees instead of following straight lines

*Darkspawn will appear but the demons escaping the Fade are the bigger threat

*The potential of mounts and their specific details are not under lockdown yet

*Qunari are a playable race with no class restrictions

*You are the first Inquisitor in about 1000 years

*People may react to a qunari inquisitor even more strongly than to an elven inquisitor

*Mr. Laidlaw's expected first playthrough may be a qunari rogue

*Qunari will likely be the last available race added

*There may in fact be some dumb looking mage hats for giggling purposes

*Non-combat skills and progression is being explored

*You can level up knowledge in certain subjects like for example nobility, opening up new persuasion options

*Combat abilities having non-combat effects are being explored, such as warriors bashing down doors

*As of right now, classes are restricted to certain weapons like in Dragon Age 2, though its still being explored

*You will be able to switch weapon types within a certain class, example Cassandra using sword/shield or two-handed

*Specific events in the comics and books are canon as long as they line up with your own canonical set of events

*Still exploring using multiple voice actors/actresses per playable race, Laidlaw says it would feel wrong if each race used the same voice

*Agents are people who will perform events on your behalf to open up new quests and paths

*Modkits/Toolsets are being explored, but there may be tech hurdles that can make them an impossibility or have them on a delay

*During dev time, there were a few hilarious glitches, one where a horse mounted by a dwarf shunted down and looked miniature, as well as (not really a glitch) the devs using a text-to-speech solution, with one of the voices sounding like Christopher Walken, thus having many characters walking around sounding like him

*Laidlaw reads the BSN threads though doesn't post often(WE SEE YOU MR. LAIDLAW, *points in your direction*), yet still gets as much information as possible

*Laidlaw states that it would be hard to accomodate returning every character players want back, and the only way it might be done is in the Dragon Age version of Mass Effect 3's Citadel DLC, which "wouldn't be a bad idea"

*Big requests they'll try to fit into the game, smaller ones that won't make it will be written down to be looked at for the future

Whew.

Oh, those were the Tumblr'd photos that weren't officially released?

That's a shame.  Those are solid faith-restorers.

There are actually people here, no joke, that dislike me because I try to be positive here. :(

*points down*

Speaking of positivity, I want to see some depth on combat soon.

I'd like to have some better mage outfits.

More armored than a robe, but not full on plate.

I'm hopeful that some of that stuff will be knight captain related. ;)

Seriously though, the videos so far have been packed with interesting information that has painted a very promising picture of the direction the devs are taking the series in. I'm really keen to see what other details they'll share with us over the coming weeks.
