I t would cheapen the books snd comics. Make them irrelevant .
I couldn't be a fan of those knowing any I read could be contradicted in the next videogame.
If they need another witch who is Flemeth's daughter I would rather they create a new one.

Ooh, I wonder if they'll mention how much the comics and books affect the story and content of the game, since apparently the latest novel is important and was heavily emphasized as something that should be read.
You don't have to read/watch them to understand what is going on. I didn't read the DAO tie-ins novel and I didn't feel like I was missing something about Loghain's ambitions or Duncan and the Architect stuff. All the important things were in the games.
I expect the same thing for the comics and Asunder/Masked Empire. We will probably meet some of the characters in those books, but the game should give all the necessary information about them that is required for the plot.

but the devs have stated that the books don't effect the game as they aren't considered canon......

I just rewatched the video where Mark says that the Inquisitor is the "sole survivor" of what caused the tear in the sky and I'm starting to believe that we are going to have the amnesiac trope thrown at us...
that cliche is over used
at this point using it is beyond beating the dead horse

Can be done good anyway.
What I want to know is how being the sole survivor makes a good candidate for the Inquisition.

Simple. Saw it happen, people know you are for that reason, and apparently is competent enough that people will listen.

I think the answer lies in the question. You're the sole survivor of a catastrophic event that claimed Maker only knows how many lives, and that is continuing to take the world by storm (probably literally). Having enough strength, prowess, cunning, etc. to survive such an event might give you extra qualifications to combat it. Plus, as LPPrince said, you are a witness, probably have the most first-hand knowledge, and would probably know best what to do about it.
Just my speculation though. BioWare might have something else in mind. *shrug*

I mean you survive tragic event, or were witness to it and saw people die in front of your eyes etc. ... there must be something more in our story connected to survive the most tragic event people can imagine. There must be some secret to it (maybe even dark one)
