Not really, it basically made it single character with a couple of guys who are sources of powers and occasionally inconveniently die.
Agreed. And also where if Shephard died, it was insta-game over.

I find that when I play DA, I play it kinda like Mass Effect in that I maintain control over my character as much as possible, but frequently pause to order squadmates/companions to do certain actions.
If I ever relinquish control over my DA PC for one of his/her companions, its because my PC is down and I have no other choice.
that's how i do it. let the AI handle the companions. the PC is my guy and that's who i am playing as

First the video goes on and on about strategy and tactics but we hardly see much of any of it. Instead it looks like the gameplay is Dragon's Dogma but you can control your pawns....I mean companions.
Finally I know everyone from Dragon's Dogma/The Witcher 2/Dark Souls is in love with roll, but rolling around in plate.....thats a pet peeve for me.

The weapon swings from the 2-Hander was good, you're swinging around some weighty metal, then you proceed to combat roll 10-15m as fast as lightning. I know it's still pre-alpha. But if I am a Warrior in heavy armor and a 2-handed sword any combat roll would be awkward, only move 2 feet and end up looking like a panda that has fallen on its head.
If the dodge mechanic is going to be there, just make it something simple like a 1m jump back to avoid a heavy swing. This could just be one little thing but it worries me that this could be their direction of abilities and gameplay, and everyone is going to turn into backflipping ninjas again.

That if you did not use your character correctly. Letting Jack run around during battle is like litting you low armor mage fight in the front. I'll give bad ai but it's not like you did not control over them.Wulfram wrote...

It isn't. Some people on the BSN are just opposed to any form of acrobatic manuever because they think it means the game will be too actiony.
God help Bioware if they ever decide to give us the ability to jump.

I wouldn't mind a dodge as an ability on the rogue with a cooldown. But if its roll, roll, roll backstab again I've played that game many times before. Plus on a Warrior in heavy armor...come on

Origins: Slow, deliberate, strategic combat
+
DA 2: Absurdly fast, flashy
=Dragon's Dogma w/controllable companions.
Don't get me wrong I liked DD but there's nothing Dragon Age like about it. From the initial impression DAO and DA2 actually look to have more in common with one another that either one with DA3.
I wouldn't have expected that at all from how they talked about it.

I did exagerate the speed, but it's still too OTT for me. A combat roll for a heavy character in a melee is just too ridiculous. I am actually fine with it for rogues who are light armored, nimble and fast so long as it can't be used consecutively so that don't you end up rolling around the battlefield.

did anyone else notice that they had the skyrim version of the map on the top?
Yes. I fairly sure Bioware will be more inventive with the design for a compass and xp bar later on down the track. It really does look like they grabbed the ol' Skyrim stencil and sprayed it on. The rest of the HUD looks great.
Maybe they could make like a semi circle compass above the abilites. It would be better to have both elements in the lower part of the screen imo. Somewhere your eyes are going to be looking.

Perhaps they could create a different dodge for each class? A side-step for the warrior, dodge roll for the rogue and, I don't know, perhaps something similar to the Asari's dodge in ME3 for the Mage?

ME3's got my favorite combat in the BioWare vaults so I feel pretty confident going into this after seeing the pre-alpha shades of today's video. I do hope for an isometric availability for those who desire as such though.
If a party based RPG plays similar to a TPS or beat´em up something has gone VERY wrong.
