Seems like they did follow what they said, making a mix of DA:O and DA 2's combat system, plus adding some new features (I like the chain hook thing. Pesky archer / mages are always a pain to deal with when I played melee characters). I wish they could've showed us more of party tactic combat though. But they still have about a year to go anyway. More info will eventually come.

Loved what I've seen, but I'm uncertain about what was the part that could tell me : " DAO combat ! " in the video.

But what was that combat presentetion video?

I am a big fan of the series, but i saw the combat-video, and i saw a guy running around of an enemy alone with an xbox pad, and playind Draksiders.

Now what is this?

Didn't he supposed to send in the tank to front of an enemy, and nuke him in the a.ss with a mage, or archer from far above view?
I cant understand why they saying it will have a PC optimized control...

Well its not dragon age at all at this point, it is some console hack and slash.

Ill be patient, it is surely a mistake, or this video wasnt on purpose.

Or maybe...

the game is in pre-alpha?

:o

Yeah, i hope its because the pre alpha stuff.
BUT we said the same "pre alpha thing" at the first Dragon Age 2 videos, and they didn't changed a thing.
I really dont think they left the combat system to the end of development. I am not a developer, but the combat system is the fkin first where i would start developing this kind of a game.

So i am waiting for an official statement where they say, it was a joke, and anyway that wasnt programmed yet.
And they sure need to ask the xbox guy to play it with PC settings for a minute...:crying:

That's the current vibe. Not enough info yet though.

Maybe wait for a decent video of actual teamplay before you start crying.

The stuff they're showing is hack&slash, but they're talking about tactical full-party control.

If you listen to the audio with the video off, you get a much different impression of the game.

Yes it looks like Hack'n'slash to me. I'm not entirely against it, if they  also stick to the strategic type. Games like Tera and Kingdom of Amalur choose the hack'n'slash type while preserving different skills and technics, and I think it worked out quite nicely.

And if you watch without the audio (as I did the first time), it paints a very, very different picture.

I'm so confused! People are on here saying they want different combat styles. And when they get it, they just complain the whole time. Do we really want to go back to origins where their feet were planted in one spot and all they did was stabbed until the enemy died. I think it looks great!

At what time (or rather, in how many hours/minutes) can we expect the new Monday information? Have they released the other info at any specific time of the day?

Wow I should not be surprised people are claiming this is a hack and slash game when they are showing a warrior fighting another warrior. Of course its going to seem like a hack and slash game. Even then they actually did show some tactics like attempting to stun them using a hook and get behind them to strike. Its not much different from rogue gameplay anyway.

Plus they weren't showing full party combat. It is really annoying how people ask for change, but then complain when they get it. I really like Origins but I do not want to go back to that combat. DA2 did some things better, but it wasn't great. If this game can find a nice middle ground then I'm happy.

I personally think calling it hack and slash is erroneous--the speed is not overly fast, there are no multiple attack types tied to certain buttons, that you press in some sequence to get a combo. I don't think it's hack and slash.

However, I DO think it's twitch. And that's a problem.

Really? I'm not getting a hack-and-slash vibe at all, to me the combat footage is really reminiscent of the Witcher 2. While yes, the gameplay in that game is more timing-based than Dragon Age games of the past, there is still lots of strategy and though tin that style of combat. Mixing that dynamic play with team-based strategy that's a hallmark of DA games? Sign me up, please.

No one ever asked for Hack n' Slash though, maybe the people who never liked DA in the first place did but pretty sure no one else asked for it.

Who cares? A lot of Hack n' Slashes require that type of tactics as well.

I wouldn't call it fully Hack n' Slash, but definitely has that vibe.

If I made a video of DA:O of my Dual Wield warrior hacking through enemies by himself people would call the game Hack and Slash and twitch based.

Sigh. *insert a "Jon Snow, you know nothing" picture here*

It's definitely not hack-n'-slash. It might be twitch, might not. I hope it's not. Depends if any of the fundamental controls are active, action game style repeatable inputs, if there is auto-dodge/parry rather than active dodge/parry (which I dream it is auto), if there is auto-attack or not, and if there are multiple stat and ability based ways to deal with enemies like the wall shield guy, rather than an assumption you'll be trying to outrun his turn speed.

If it looks like a AAA action game aesthetically but plays like a AAA DA:O style semi-turn based rpg, that's ideal. If it actually plays like an aRPG instead, that would be a disappointment. We don't know enough from that, but I'm keeping my hopes up. They're talking about a lot of the right kinds of things.
