Regarding the nudity discussion: Would it be so hard to put an option in the settings where people can choose to see it or not? If they have "mature scenes enabled", then they see the whole thing, nudity and all. If "mature scenes disabled" is chosen, then they get a scene like what we had for DA2. Not much shown and fade to black. Essentially, it would be allowing the scene to start, but before it got to the removing clothing bit, it would fade out and skip ahead to the after scene. Everyone wins.

There already is a toggle for sex scenes. It's called the ESC key.

I swear every time somebody on the forums asks for a toggle a developer cries. Let's have a toggle for homosexuality! A toggle for romances! A toggle for sex scenes! Let's play the whole damned game with a bunch of checkboxes in a menu while we're at it!
How about we all just enjoy what Bioware is crafting for us instead, and trust that they will do their best to make things work well enough that we don't need such things?

Because skipping game content purposely is not the key answer to such issues, IMO. Gore? Do not want it; find it excessive and does not add to suspense and horror at all. Hats? Look rather silly and out of character for some (eg; Velena, Anders). Etc.

However, I do not wish to force my personal preferences on all other Players, a Toggle as they have included does seem to fix the issue. No extra blood spatter; no hats for me. Without such options, at some point I have to avoid content (eg; profanity in ME3) to play the game I wish, or not play it or support it at all (eg; entire Witcher series, Game of Thrones, etc).

A Toggle appears to be a decent answer for some issues, though not all.

I think placing less importance on the romances is just fine. Especially when you consider a lot of the things Bioware's been trumpeting as of late only applies to a very small percentage of the overall fanbase.

I think DA2 was a wake-up call in a lot of ways, even if the reaction was a bit unfair given the game's obviously incomplete status. I really hope they're taking this to heart, so we don't get another absolute mess like DA2 (especially Anders) ever again. Tone it down a bit, stop waving it all over the place, and make it more "human".

"Criticisms regarding stock romances and approval ratings dictating relationships have been looming. Fans should be happy to know that approval ratings are playing a different role this time around. "Previously, we had a lot of the follower content gated by your approval rating. Whereas what we're doing now, we're having a lot more of your content event-driven," Gaider says. "The approval you're at informs the nature of the conversation."

This doesn't sound very different from DA2's system. You'd reach a point in the game where you could talk to your companions and when you did, the interaction changed depending on whether they were Friends or Rivals.
This is not a complaint, merely an observation.

Well DA2 interactions were still "gated" because you needed a certain rivalry/friendship rating for certain interactions to start. What the article describes is that the interaction will occur REGARDLESS of what the exact approval rating is at the time, and that only the tone of the interaction will be effected by the score. er

I imagine that it would work like Origin's approval system, but without the requirement of reaching X approval before the conversation occured. As an example I'll use Morrigan's dark ritual since this always occurs regardless of romancing her or removing her from the party.

Morrigan would approach the player character to initaite the dark ritual, but how she went about it was different depending on if she was romanced. If Morrigan was romanced she would bring up being in love with the Warden, and not wanting him to die. If Morrigan was not romanced she would bring up how devasted the romanced character would be as the reason for doing the dark ritual.

Another example would be when Alistair wants to visit Goldanna. Alistair will only bring this up when his approval rating is at a certain point. With the new system he would bring it up regardless of the exact rating, but how he would go about bringing it up would differ based on the rating.

 From the article on GI:

"BioWare has to scale back on the time spent on the romances in the grander scheme of the project. "The follower characters in general are enormously complex," Gaider says. "They're a massive investment in terms of gameplay and storytelling.""We try to push ourselves," Laidlaw adds. "We try to do things we haven't done before. We try to explore characters we haven't done before, but there comes a point in which you can afford only so much crazy."The team often has to reel themselves in, and they're well aware of criticisms about fans wanting more detailed, realistic romances. "

No where does the article say that DAI will have less romance then previous games, all it states is that the team has to keep themselves in check when it comes to romance, much like they had to do the last 2 games. Everyone is getting up in arms for no reason.

And here I thought I was the only one who read the article this way. I don't think what they ment is that they are scaling back romances compared to previous Dragon Age games, but rather that they are scaling back the romance in terms of what they would like to do with the romances in Inquisition. At least that's what I think.

We can all probably agree DA:O and DA2 had about the same amount of romance in them (what am I saying, this is the BSN, no one agrees on anything), so say we give them an arbitrary number, say 50. What they players who enjoy romance would like is obviously more and more in dept, so let's call that 100. The way I read the romance article is that while the developers would like to do 100, they just can't devote that much time and that many man-hours to make that happen. Instead they are scaling back from what they want to do and 'meet the players halfway': 100 / 2 = 50.

So I think, based on the article, we'll get about the same amount of romance as in previous games. At least I hope so.

DA2 had more than DAO did with the way romances were..handled. Only Sebastian had a preference, so you've technically got nine - five options for FemHawkes and four for males. DAO had three and three respectively.

I guess we'll definitely be finding out what's up with Red Lyrium, then. That's good. Slight admission that maybe it wasn't adequately addressed before, "too many loose ends."

I like that they'll explain the red lyrium.

I really didn't like how it was such a big part of DA2 plot (you found it, it made people crazy, what the hell were those profane creatures?, why are the grey wardens after the thaig?) but at the end nothing was resolved on top of everything else not being resolved like "What is Cassandra after and why have I been watching this interrogation this whole time???"

The former crime reporter is Ben Gelinas, the lead author of The World of Thedas lore book, if I remember correctly. :wizard:

Placing Game of Thrones and the plots of Dragon Age in the same sentence.
Good sign, good sign.

It shouldn't come as a surprise. A Song of Ice and Fire was one of the inspirations for Dragon Age.

Oh, really? I saw him on Twitter for the short time I was active there. He seemed like a cool gent.

That's still a heck of a title though... CRIME REPORTER!

Ok, this video is saying all the things I want to hear. Don't stop.
"Some conflicts can't be resolved...there will always be greed and intolerance...there are no absolutes".

I can feel a sparkle of excitement.
