"Unlike Dragon Age II, very little of the content in Inquisition is scaled to the player’s level. That means that some parts of the world will have enemies that are too difficult to defeat until you reach a certain level. This approach conveys a satisfying sense of progress; few things in an RPG are more rewarding than finally defeating a foe that was previously beyond your abilities. That’s the driving idea behind how dragons are implemented in Inquisition. “I don’t ever want a player to casually kill a dragon,” Laidlaw says. “I see a dragon as something you aspire to. You see it flying overhead and make future plans. ‘I’ve seen that there’s a dragon. I know what kind of environment I’m going to be up against. I know what I’m going to fight on my way in. So I’m going to need to prepare accordingly."

Our dragons are basically apex predators,” Laidlaw says  their dragons are  like Randy Orton Does that mean the Dragon will try to defeat me  with a RKO  :D

Pretty cool stuff. Combat sounds cool.

Also, I thought this was the last update!

Optional bosses are cool, though... I might feel kinda bad killing some mindless giant animal just cuz it's a challenge and it's there. There's a difference, I think, from previous dragons in specifically knowing it's there (in-character) and preparing for it, which normally is a cool strategic element, but here could make you feel kinda like an ivory poacher.

That aside,

Unlike Dragon Age II, very little of the content in Inquisition is scaled to the player’s level. That means that some parts of the world will have enemies that are too difficult to defeat until you reach a certain level.

...

For example, if you fight a dragon in a rocky clearing, you may be able to take cover from its breath weapon behind boulders. However, the dragon can flush you out by concentrating its fire to melt the stone.

No one tactic works for every fight, and they are intended to be difficult. In fact, you have the option to withdraw from some of these encounters in case you bite off more than you can chew. So, how can your Inquisitor defeat these colossal foes? Each one is a little different, but you can find and create gear that gives you an edge against dragons. You should also pay attention to the dragon’s behavior and environment, because your tactics may change as the fight goes on. “You can individually target their limbs, and they react to the damage to a leg versus another one,” says Laidlaw. “I think that helps ground the encounter a lot more. If you need to get in close to the legs, we open up a whole new realm of counter-moves. He can take a swipe at where you likely are, which feels more like what a real beast would do. It grounds the encounter, and keeps it very physical.”

All sounds pretty good.

That sounds amazing. It is also how I feel that a fight against dragons should go. Defeating a high dragon should take loads of hard work, skill and preparation to accomplish. You need the best equipment and a watertight strategy or your toast literally.

Would it make you feel better if a villager gave you a quest to slay the dragon that has been terrorizing the countryside? That would still be an optional fight.

The ivory poacher angle could be interesting considering how they went extinct the last time. But I doubt they'll go for that.

And we're gonna fight more dragons than we did in previous games.

Just what I wanted. Make The Dragon Age really feel like the Age of Dragons.

I guess that would be more justifiable, yeah. That is the kind of conclusion I get for imagining a scenario without context. :innocent:

“The Dragon has always been this agent of change and tumult,” Laidlaw says. “It’s almost like an astrological sign – except rad."

Pretty rad Mike, pretty rad.

I like the sound of the dragon combat, they might end feeling like real boss fight and not just monsters with a lot of HP...

Is it wrong for me to say that I want to kill as few dragons as possible?

I understand they're predators that are probably attacking people and creatures, and I'll gladly take one if it's specifically bothering anyone. If it's just flying by or chilling on a mountain top, minding its own business though, I don't want to call it down for the express purpose of killing it. =/

Nah, I get it. I don't want to kill them all off either.

I just want to see more. And if we're fighting more, that means we're seeing more.

I'm pretty ambivalent to this news. I just hope they aren't as gimmicky as Skyrim's dragons, and most, if not all, dragons have some unique combat mechanics. It'd be so boring to fight essentially the same dragon ten times.

They literally said that is the case.

Because confrontations with dragons are placed encounters (not random, as opposed to games like Skyrim), BioWare is able to design them for specific environments and situations. “We need to consider them as something we should be tuning,” Laidlaw says. “Their environment should have some nice lead-in. You should feel that anticipation. You should clench up a little. And when they appear, they should be aware of the space in which you’re fighting them and be able to use that.” For example, if you fight a dragon in a rocky clearing, you may be able to take cover from its breath weapon behind boulders. However, the dragon can flush you out by concentrating its fire to melt the stone.

This always hit me as pretty silly, when someone uses the title for what ought to be dominating the game. What if they went with the Towers Age instead? Would you then say it's about time they added more Towers? It's the Towers Age! There should be more Towers! The lack of Towers is ridiculous, given the name. The title should be changed to reflect the game if anything else, not vice-versa.

Just admit it. You want more dragons to fight...because fighting dragons is awesome.
