how do you play this game ?

Basicly I got full collection of BG1 TOTSC + BG2 + TOB and I install to obvious mods (BG2 fix \\ BGT etc..).
thing is I start a game then I have no idea what to do first....
Explore every area I walk into?
zerg around the map until I create my "perfect" group for my run then walk back?
try and just folow the main quest while completing side quest and such which just pop up along the way?
Cause on BG1 especialy I start a game finish the tutorial area and soon as I start and imoen joins to my team there are huge number of areas which most of them kinda empty with respawning enemies all around and I get bit lost to a point where I just quit the game.
1. what is a good way of starting a bg1 game once I'm after the tutorial section?
2. if I'm using tutu mod will my characters get "over level" by the time I reach BG2?
3. I understand TOTSC is an optional section of bg1 when do you play those parts?
4. Swashbuckler with evil party or paladin with good party? (regarding evil party by game design it's utterly hard to play because of reputaion system and the need to donate temples all over the place and the fact you can't get 20 reputaion).

2 Tutu/BGT won't make a crazy xp difference. In a solo run it is easy to reach 161000xp, in a party of 6 you'd just about get there if you did a completionist run.
3 The three parts of TotSC are accessible almost from the start (i.e. as soon as you open up the 2 map sections that initiate them) but you might find it tough going without a decently levelled and equipped party.
4 Again, depends what you want to do. I've run a paladin with an evil party, just role played it that he was either a bit simple with his low intelligence or stubborn enough to think they'd mend their ways. Reputation can be irritating and if you are concerned the BG2 Tweak pack mod (I think) has a happy party component.

Once you get to level 4 you can try the harder areas, like the Ankheg Map. And once about level 6 TotSC areas should be doable in a full party.
You really have full control - if you wanted, you could just do the main quest only, but you may find some parts of it hard, if you are under-leveled. The other areas help increase your level and loot (money), and you will find upgrades in the various areas as well.

is it good time to do TOTSC missions right before I walk into baldur's gate city?
btw, this will be first time I'm doing full baldurs gate run from 1 to TOB end so I was thinking good party first with the repution mechanics to make it easier run. Class wise I was thinking about Inquisitor palading for goodness might and evil powah of the deispel, I thought about maybe some kind of mage like sorcerer or wild mage.. I know BG1 is low level and hard for mages but it will get better once I'm on level 8-9. Also thought about swashbuckler and use him as secondry warrior which will be used for picking locks\\finding traps\\spot illusions etc...
Last one I thought about was neutral\\evil party. I remember fondly playing BG2 as an evil Kensai and I loved grouping with Viconia etc.... but lack of decent Cleric throughout the series of games (except Viconia) made me think maybe some uber cleric or something or parheps using a druid caster of some kind.
Last thing there are some weird items in the game (I know i should keep the gold pentalons!) but there is anywhere on BG1 to use as "Storage" where I can keep items which may be quest items that I'll need or something like that? or should I just check Gamebanshee if I suspect something is quest item?
oh and one more issue, I'm bit confused about the BG playing technique... most bioware games I played you are confined to all areas which you can travel to in current plot part but from what I've seen once I'm out of candelkeep there is no limit and I can go anywhere do anything? is there a good guideline to what to do once I'm out of candelkeep travel wise?
Regarding loot, from what I saw monsters respawns a lot... should I loot everything or focus on stuff worth more then 10GP? lots of sword and daggers worth 2 gp....

Yes, because if you fully explored the Cloakwood you should be level 6 by then.Googleness wrote...

If you are using a full party PC class is NOT important in Vanilla BG. Be whatever you find fun, and have the NPCs cover for your weaknesses.

You can use ANY empty chest or barrel to store stuff in BG 1. I usually use the barrel by Jovial Juggler in Beregost or the chest by one of the small tent merchants at the carnval to store my excess stash.

You can go wherever you want, though in vanilla, you can't get to Cloakwood until chapter 4 and the City of Baldur's Gate by Chapter 5. Again, I would go straight to Nashkel and do the stuff in the southern areas and work your way up the map.

For me, the key requisite is carrying capacity. If I have a lot of strong people in my party, I will loot everything that sells. If not, then am more choosy. Also, if I have 50,000 gold, I will often leave stuff behind that isn't magical, scroll, or gem. The other factor is am I trying to clear an area in one go? If so, I drop leather armors, and loot bastard swords, etc., otherwise, will take more trips.

though not getting to cloakwood might be a problem as I've thought about getting coran I think I might get Kivan instead.
something like that:
me - paladin\\inquisitor
Imoen - theif (might dual on level 6 to a mage)
minsc - Ranger
Dynheir - mage
Branwen - Cleric
Kivan - Ranger (archer)
goody goody group.
At any rate I think I'll fetch up the team then use your advice of exploring southern part of the map as I get Dynheir I'll be on most southwest part of the map and from there explore north.
Thanks for the tips!

Also I'm not paying 20$ for BG1 itself.... I already bought the complete saga twice.. first time on DVDs and second time on digital version from Gamestop.

Personally, the BG games are among those that I never finished because I never felt satisfied with the interface, nor with how my PC team(s) developed in the early going.
