Not news to me; roughly half of of the people I count as gaming buddies are female. Good to have them on board after years of playing games designed primarily for and by males. I enjoyed those days but it's good to see this change.

I think there are some people out there (and on this site) who will not believe that there are more than three female gamers in the entire world until all 45 percent come knocking on their doors; and even then, they will scoffingly inform them that they all play Angry Birds and Farmville and they don't count.

This is a lie (unless you count facebook games).

Just because you can't see us, doesn't mean we don't exist. Image IPB

And good lord, no self-respecting gamer plays facebook games; male or female!

If I can't imagine it, then its not real. Sorry Daiz, but your life is a lie, and only your nightmares are real.

It's beginning to feel that way. I woke up this morning with the Death theme from Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen playing in my head. Apparently Gransys (and Bitterblack Isle) is where I live these days. Hehe.

Well at least you have Shiones abs

HAWP (Girl Games)

There's a little swearing and such...if you're sensitive to that kind of thing.

Lol, I love Ashly!

I used to play CoD with my husband and his friends almost every weekend, but we stayed in the party chat the whole time. My gamertag kinda gives away that I'm female, but maybe the name is used for male too (i don't know). I would get at least 1 messages per match asking me if I'm female. After a while I just put "Yes I'm a girl" in my bio for a while, because it was just easier. So instead of "Are you a girl?" messages, I would get "How old are you". Oh well :P I always took it with humor. I also got a mean one with "you're a ****g b!atch" before too, that was the only one I've ever gotten though.

Honestly, I don't go around screaming that I'm a female that likes to play videogames of the top of lungs, if it comes up in a conversation than cool, otherwise I keep quiet.

What I absolutely don't understand is when people say that male gamers are icky. With all my time playing online games, I maybe ran into 3 guys who wanted more than a friendly chat, so I would just leave the room or unfriend/mute them or say "No thanks". Maybe I'm not that sensitive about it, I don't know. Most of the time the guys are pretty nice.

I can't see the actual poll, but I'm guessing it has alot to do with the casual gaming explosion over the last 10 years.

I would wager that the large majority of active gamers are still male. At any given moment, the gaming landscape is probably dominated by males.

My sister plays games, maybe even considers herself a gamer. Yet my gaming hours over the last 10years is a thousandfold larger then hers. Just one example I know, but the problem with these studies is they would tally my sister and I as being equal in the gaming landscape. I also suspect that studies like this misrepresent Mothers purchasing games for their sons, as being a girl purchasing a game. Girls, aka Moms, are probably the #1 customer of gamestop.

The gaming landscape is certainly changing rapidly with smart phones and tablets. And more and more Girls are indeed joining the gaming world. But 1/2 girls... BS.

Well seeing as how roughly half of the world's population is female I am not surprised.

The only girl I know that plays Farmville is a creepy vegan girl in the Marketing department where I work, who also doesn't shave her armpits, and looks like a boy.

we have Wolf, who is female in charge of Halo 4 since its announcement for release a year ago... she and her team made Halo 4. not by male counterparts but purely by female gamers themselves.

Why should this matter?  Is there some kind of arbitrary hours per week line after which you can be called a "real" gamer?

Women own computers and spend time in living rooms where consoles are parked, and men also use smart phones and tablets.  Why people immediately think a report on female gamers means they must be including mobile devices is strange.

another thing...what does this thread have to do with multiplayer? I think I will get back to working on map mastery.

Just out of curiosity... what exactly defines someone as being a "gamer"?

She's a few rings short of a Super Sonic transformation. Or a few combos short of a KO. Or a few points short of a high score. A few losses short of a rage quit. A few...well you probably get it by now.

It matters because it misrepresents the gaming landscape. Please note, I am all for more girl gamers (I wish there were more, and wish they actually played). But girls are not the ones who are actually playing the games. Males are, and by a very large majority.
