There is a mention of a mage ability in the GI article that allows mages to restore broken-down bridges to usability (whether through some sort of repairing spell, solid force reinforcements, or even earth manipulation, we do not know).
Does this mean that the classes will gain non-combat abilities? Could this be linked to a skill system or something like it?

It sounds like something useful, so it's presumably not a non combat ability like in DAO. Given the return of multiple races my guess would be that non combat abilities are coming back.

Well if we go back to Origins there was the whole skill set (Herbs, Poison, Trap-Making, Stealing, Persuasion, etc.). It sounds like they are just going to be add more to it, to what extend that is hard to say.
