Still don't understand why they've made it an "always-online" thing and why it could have an offline mode even if it is "less fun" in their eyes. I mean we can play solo anyways. I'll bite and buy though probably for next gen. Bungie have yet to disappoint me and I enjoy Halo.

You can play on your own if you want and you won't be punished for doing so (though you still need to be online for it) but bungie want it to be more rewarding when you play with other people.

I really, really, REALLY hope they get this out for PC as soon as possible (devs have already stated they'd love to).

Will be a must-have for me.

I think if there is a PC version it will be released long after the console version.

I think it looks great. This is the generation where you'll finally see the rise of MMOs on console with The Division and Destiny. They've always sucked on consoles but this is looking to change that.

Can someone explain the hype this game is receiving?

I keep hearing how amazing this game is going to be without a single shred of explanation as to why they think that.

Bungie created the Halo franchise back in 2001 on the first Xbox and has since then become one of the most iconic gaming franchises. Destiny is Bungie's first multiplatform game and people have expectations for it.

So theres nothing about the gameplay/story/style specifically that you think makes the game look worthwhile that you can note to date?

People had expectations for Star Wars the MMO because of who made it, the budget and the IP and yet that still flopped. Just because it is made by a decent company does not mean the game is going to be nearly as good as this level of hype implies, infact I actually find it a bit concerning.

I could see them pulling this off and making this into a decent game, but something tells me I would enjoy another Halo title more then a Halo like MMO.

The thing is Halo had a certain epic "your the biggest badass in the universe and its up to you to win the war" feel that made the combat feel better then it really is. It works in a single player campaign, pretty tricky to pull that off in an MMO.

It looks very promising so far, but I'll remain cautious.

Bungie have repeatedly said that Destiny shouldn't be called an MMO.

Everything I've seen on the game suggests otherwise. They even use MMO terms like raids describing events. They probably see that as a negative for their game and console gamers see MMO as a blacklist. That's probably why they don't call it an MMO. The Division is an MMO and those devs refuse to call it that. They just call it an open world online RPG. Everything about that game is also an MMO. They're both MMOs basically.

-Extremely massive world like an MMO
-Central hubs
-Persistent world shared with countless players
-Unlimited character customization with loot drops
-Raids
-Dungeons
-Grouping for quests
-Regular content updates

Yup, it's an MMO. MMOFPS rather than MMORPG maybe.  I'm not sure what else they would describe their game as when they plan on keeping it alive for many years. Perhaps it's not "MMO" because they plan to instance everything off like the first Guild Wars game. Maybe that's why they're saying that. I know that the Division will use instanced areas and certain places will be "hot" zones where you always see players for PvP. Other areas are instanced and you have to invite the players.

I won't argue that has a good number of features found in MMOs, but they've also said that they will try to minimise grinding in Destiny and allow players to play at their own pace, they are also plan to have sequels.

Well, it IS an MMO. It stands to question how "massive" it is at any given time, but it definately is a conceptional multiplayer online game from the get go.

Destiny is pretty much the Defiance clone. And Defiance is very nice game.

But what advantages does the Destiny have compared to Defiance except the next-gen graphics? What about the story's depth? How important is the Destiny's story for devs compared to pure MMO features they are going to implement anyway (grind, farm, other "time wasters")?

We haven't seen much of Destiny (apart from the E3 demo) and I doubt that it'll play like Defiance, your better off waiting for more details before you even make a comparison.

Well, we've already seen sci-fi post-apocalyptic world partially claimed by changed nature. Alien-looking enemies and allies. Abilities which look both like tech and magic. Weapons that look quite common for modern times.

When I watched Destiny videos I instantly associated it with Defiance. It looks and feels like Defiance. And that's why the game actually interested me. But I still have worries about the game's story. That's why I wonder how is the story important for the devs. If they will concentrate on pure MMO features only, then I'm afraid the game will become a boring time-waster... I still remember Guild Wars 2 - how devs gave a lot of promises, but eventually broke them all and produced a trivial boring "grinder".
