SO reading the description about the expansion I think I know who we'll be fighting. If you have not completed The Sword of Crota on the Moon, don't read further.
So right off the bat the first expansion will probably deal with something that did feel unexplored.

The story is bad, but my issue with people complaining about the story then giving the game a low score mostly for that reason. Why then give Halo 3, Mass Effect 2, Titianfall ect very high scores. Afterall the story complaint seems to major yet many reviews including Gamespot gave games with far worse stories or similar quality extremely high reviews. This is the issues I have with these low scores for Destiny. Destiny is a 7.5/8 in my books. The game has flaws.
-bare-bone story
-Strikes mission while fun are not in unique zones
-Patrol missions(while these don't really bug me this this stuff is a norm in MMO games, it's sad to still see it again and people who don't like MMOs or never played them will dislike it
-lack of a map
-The interesting lore being put on the site instead of being able to check out cards in game
Those are my only issues, and they are very overshadowed the pros for me and how much fun I'm having. People simply fell for the hype despite being told not to swallow it(as you should never do)
Thanks for the measured assessment. Sounds like it might be worth it to wait awhile and let the expansions come out- I certainly wasn't expecting a super in-depth lore-heavy experience, but it sounds like it's a bit on the bare bones at the moment. Especially without any friends to play it with.
You seem to be tracking the upcoming roll outs. What's coming out when at this point? Any steady schedule?

Vault of glass, first raid comes out on the 16th
Every weekend, Salvage(PVP mode) happens
In December the first expansion comes out and judging by the description, it will deal with something big that was unexplored in the main game on the moon, also it adds maps, raids ect so I say maybe wait till the first expansion comes out.
That's right now all I know.

Its a decent enough shooter, and pretty as hell, but there is very little story to speak of. Hard to say I'm spoiling anything, but you basically get woke by that flying robot thing, and just start doing missions. There is very little in the way of explanation of the current circumstance, character backstory, development, or expression. I thought maybe there would be more story on Bungie's site in the Grimoire, but nope, its just a codex.
Just for comparison, I started playing Crysis a few days ago, and even it has more character backstory and development to it.
Also, very little in the way of tools for communication - no chatbox or anything which makes grouping a bit of a difficulty. I'm not sure if it is better with PlayStation Plus, but I can only wave, point, and dance with people (and kick this soccer ball that's knocking around the tower). There doesn't seem to be any matchmaking tools (queues, LFG flag) for the PVE at all.
Overall, I still like it. Not sure how long I'll play.

To be fair, there is matchmaking for strikes and you can just message people or just look for a clan on the site.

Eh. If KewlKitchens.com were to deem one fork a truly fine example of a great fork, giving it a 8/10, it doesn't mean KewlKitchens or it's readers should figure out the said fork is somehow a better microwave than one very expensive, touch bland and little bit boring Microwave they deemed worthy of 6/10.

Ah, yes, The Sword of Crota, I wish there were more missions like that.
That sword was really OP.

I just did the Sword of Crota mission yesterday, that was so much fun. I can see me replaying that a couple of times. I think that's what Destiny needs more of in it's mission design, new experiences. Getting the sword and going mad in third person was fun and different to the ordinary gameplay. They need things in missions that only happen in that mission.
Also I think it'd be cool if they ever introduce ship combat, but I kinda want ship combat in just about any sci-fi. Maybe a strike where the fireteam boards a Fallen ship attacking somewhere, has to disable it's weapons, sabotage it's engines and then storm the bridge to kill the boss before escaping to an airlock.
Just, things which are different.

Agree 100%. And that is exactly what I wish the expansion packs will add. New gameplay missions with lot of creativity to it. I still remember playing co-op with friends in Halo and taking on a giant scarab by boarding it, taking down the enemies on board and ultimately destroying it while escaping just in the nick of time as it exploded by my friend picking me up from the top of the scarab with the Hornet. Destiny needs moment like these, and I hope they add something similar.
I think I recall some interviews talking about Bungie heavily implying on multiple occasions that there will be space combat in the future. They have also implied that we will fly our space ships to the other planets in the Solar System ourselves, meaning no cut scenes or loading screens for travel to other planets. I hope these plans are still underway, since I haven't seen anything official about it and this was talked about in 2013.

Incidentally I'm loving Venus. I also love fighting the Vex, they are very different from the Fallen and the Hive. I really love the attention to detail in making sure the different species act and behave differently from one another.

That should be something for Bungie to into for Destiny, unless they already are for the future

Sword of Crota is a good example of what Bungie needs to do more for Destiny missions. Not saying have all missions have you run around with an awesome sword, but make the missions feel unique. There is some really good missions. There's also some very bad ones

I like the Vex and Cabal. I think the Fallen have good potential if Bungie does more with them then being Elite 2.0

I think they should also include another planet to explore, Mercury is one the planets that is in the crucible but not in the free roam.
