Looks like it could go the route of the GTA Online launch but when you launch as big of an ambitious project as this, same with GTA Online, both of which have incredibly large fanbases -- then you'll have to expect lots of problems occuring.

All these problems on PSN makes me fear the Xbox launch(as if the 4days weren't bad enough). Hopefully they clear things up during maintenance and let us download early.
If we have to wait a half a day or longer then that would suck
Microsoft have always been miles and miles ahead of the competition when it comes to the online stuff so I'm pretty sure there will be less drama when Destiny becomes available to 360 and XBox One gamers than what Sony experienced today. Still, I do see your point with less than a handful of days to play Beta the loss of half the days worth of gameplay time would be a crushing blow.
I spent the whole entire day waiting for these stupid codes, an hour and half fighting to redeem on PSN and after 2 hours I have little over 10% downloaded ( my internet connection is painfully slow ). I won't be paying this game until very late tomorrow evening due to work commitments. The loss of those 2 days of gameplay time really breaks my heart.
Heaven help you if you own a 360 or a XBox One and you live in rural area with a substandard internet connection.

Don't think it's going to be done today for me -- Wonder if it's fine to turn it off then it'll continue next time.

If Bungie would have actually mailed me my codes then I'd given you one -- Maybe Raizo's got another one you can have?
Thanks again, Raizo -- It is indeed appreciated.
Your welcome.

I'm too scared to turn off my PS4. If it were any other game I would switch it to standby mode so that it could still continue downloading the file while saving power but I've never seen a PS4 game install like this before, the file is coming from Bungie, not PSN and afraid that if switch it standby mode I might have begin again from scratch and I can't afford to do that with my internet.

I haven't played any of Destiny yet, and I was really hyped for it initially, but my interest waned over time and now, I simply don't care. Like, it can completely pass me by and I wouldn't feel bad about it.
I have no idea why though.

What console do you own and what region are you. I have 1 last beta code to spare but it is for the PS4 and Europe.

XB1, and NA. Don't worry about it though, just went and pre-ordered it. I'll cancel if I dont like it, and get my money back ![]()
Thanks though!

I wonder how much this game is gonna sell. It seems the hype is bigger than anything, I don't know if its warranted.

It's hard to say. There was little to no hype about it before the Alpha gameplay videos surfaced no one I knew was talking about it. Demand for the Beta was so heigh that it crashed PSN. A lot of the Bungie/Halo faithful do nothing but ****** and moan about how much the Beta sucks, how they are all cancelling their pre orders because of how boring Destiny is ( despite the fact that it looks and plays just like Halo with skill trees and loot to me ).
I think it will do well. The big question is will it shift enough units to please Bungie and Activision is another matter. We might have another Tomb Raider reboot on our hands here where the game is successful enough to please the developer but the sales will disappoint the publisher.
For what it's worth I have enjoyed my time with Destiny. Started with a female Warlock which I've maxed out at level 8 and I have now started a male Titan. Loot is plentiful but it although it lacks that unique feel ( in the early stages of the game the main variations are just in the stats ). Old Russia is beautiful and the level is quite huge, if you want to explore however beware of enemies that are way above the Lv 8 cap that could one shot kill you if you don't have proper gear, having said that I was anxious for a change of scenery after I finished all the Old Russia Beta levels, I despise repetition and going over the same area again and again was beginning to get to me. Gameplay is solid, very solid, I'm not a big fan of fps's but Bungie really know how to make fps's I like. I have played nothing else but Destiny since I downloaded the file and the second I walk away from the console I immediately want to log back on a again and keep playing. I'm going to have huge withdrawal symptoms when the Beta ends. As for the social aspects to the game, well to be honest I'm not sure what to make if it. I'm a loner by nature and as such I'm not used to playing with others. It is both weird and fun to encounter other gamers during campaign levels. It's really satisfying taking down over powered high levels enemies together and completing public events together. Lack of proper communication or in part chat seems to be a huge issue for multi player veterans. I've been told that you can only chat with someone if they are part of your party.

Anyone here played Beta? Is the player character voiced? Are there dialog options or choices? Is the world really open or just a corridor shooter? How does the spaceship work? Is it like Mass Effect, or just a menu screen to select new planets with? Is there some story or just running aimlessly doing missions?
Thanks!

Don't know what to think of this game. Everytime I read about it it sounds amazing, but then when I look at videos and such I get a bit disappointed, since it looks like your avarage Sci-Fi FPS, which is an MMO.
Anyone here played Beta? Is the player character voiced? Are there dialog options or choices? Is the world really open or just a corridor shooter? How does the spaceship work? Is it like Mass Effect, or just a menu screen to select new planets with? Is there some story or just running aimlessly doing missions?

Is the character voiced? Yes although don't expect him or her to say all that much. During the 5 storyline missions I think I heard less than a handful of lines of dialogue.
Dialogue options? No, at least not in the Beta although I sincerely doubt they'd be in the full game either.
Is the world open or is it just a corridor shooter? Open, very open, ****** huge open. The 5 storyline missions of the Beta all take place in Old Russia. Each one takes you to a different part of the map and has you going in a different direction however if you want to ignore your objective and explore you can. There are also a lot of in door environments ( old abandoned buildings ) and a network of underground caves to explore ( be warned most of creatures down there are at a much higher level than you can get to and will destroy you ). The openness is especially apparent during a free roam mission that has you picking up random objectives on and then traveling all over the map to complete them, these range from killing enemies from a particular area, collecting bounty from fallen troops, surveying caves, retrieving plans etc.
How does the Space Ship work? It's just cosmetic, you don't actually control it. It's how your Guardian gets from the tower to where ever his/her next mission will take place. Not irritant for Earth missions but they need a reason to explain how your Guardian gets from Earth to the Moon to Venus to where ever they go next.
Is it like Mass Effect or is it just a menu screen to select new planets? Menu screen. You select either the Tower ( home base and Hub world to the Guardians where you do all your shopping ) , the Crucible ( player vs player arena ) or whatever planet you have to go to. If you select a planet then there will be more options there depending on how far you've advanced in the campaign. Old campaign missions can be replayed and before you are deployed you can alter the difficulty of the enemies from the menu.
Is there a story or are you just running around doing missions? There is a story. I can't comment much on it since I've experienced so little of it. I'd say it falls short of a proper single player games storyline but it is better than Borderlands 2's story so far. There is potential there with what I've read up on the lore of the game but so far all I've experienced revolves around finding said spaceship and fixing it up so that it can leave orbit and laying a bit of backstory on what the Traveler is and the threat that the Darkness presents to what little remains of humanity.

I would recommend playing it before judging it. It's one of those rare games where video footage doesn't really do it justice because it does not capture how you feel when you play it. Simply put, Destiny is a fun game.
Agreed. The hover-bike gives you that child-like feeling of pure enjoyment. The gear system seems fun and intuitive, and if further dungeons are anything like The Devil's Lair, then playing with friends in those is going to rock.
