I need some tips from fellow Warlocks out there, I am planning to run the Vault of Glass this weekend with my clan, and I want to make sure my build is optimized for the Raid. I know that void damage is the name of the game here, but I have been running as a Sunsinger for the the better part of 3 weeks now, so I'm a little rusty on the ins and outs of the Voidwalker subclass. I have all the upgrades unlocked for the Voidwalker, but I am not sure which ones would be the best choice to go with for the Vault.

Can anyone recommend some builds that I can use for the Vault and Strike runs; I want to try and practice my build before I do the run. I am looking for advice on how I should spec myself, things like:

Blink or Glide?

Vortex Grenade, Axion Bolt, or the other (name escapes me ATM)?

What upgrade for Energy Drain should I go with?

What passives should I take?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My only runthrough of VoG was as a Sunsinger (mostly cause I have several Void weapons, but also for the Radiance resurection), but based on what I played, if I was going to do it again as Voidwalker my choices would be:

1. Glide, without question - Blink is too random for what's needed in VoG, plus you'll need Glide of several areas (specifically the jumping puzzle)

2. Energy Drain is kinda up to you, since you'd rather have a Void shotgun for close encounters. The health restore upgrade is nice, but only works if you kill the enemy with it (which is hardly gonna happen with melee), so I'd stick with the movement/reload speed increase

3. Vortex grenade has an area affect and DoT, which can help in the last third of the mission where enemies are spawning in groups

4. Nova bomb should probably be spec'ed for Vortex for large group encounters but then switched to Lance for the bosses

Everyone should get to at least Rank 1 with the Iron Banner.

100 rep to reach it and you get 25 rep for each win.

Not me with my no-PvP allowed internet connection.

I spend 5 minutes in a match tops.

Whether or not I'd be able to stay connected for the VoG is in question.

I believe in you. But I almost want to see you drop connection for a second just to hear Pyrrha say "I'm sorry!"

Good to hear. I've also heard that Rank 3 IB gear can get to 30 light. The prospect has me and my lowly 1 piece of Raid gear wet.

So how long are the servers suppose to be offline? It'll be about 3 hours since they started working on them in a little bit (I know they said a couple, but usually a couple means about 2, lol)

Generally I go by standard MMO time. "Servers will be down for 2 hours." Means 8 hours so come back tomorrow.

Ok, maybe not that long, but generally I double the amount of time they mention before checking back.

They are back up now though, but some of you might know that.

I was almost ready to come in here and say I completed my first PvP match.

But then I disconnected before the reward screen :crying:

Ouch, that's got to suck. Hope you can get through some.

I've only done the one match so far, and to be honest I'm not seeing a huge difference in terms of how easily I die or how tough it is to kill other players. The one shot kill weapons are still one shot kill weapons, and I still managed to kill other players in roughly the same fashion (which is poorly).

Also, I'd advise people to pick up the 10k exp bounty if they're not good at pvp like me, as I just checked it. It's sitting at 2590 xp and I got a score of 1915, so even if you're losing matches that's not going to take long to get you 75 rep and you only need 100 rep for rank 1.

It's like any PvP god got mad that I worshiped the RNG god and Black Heart too much and put me on the "No Completion List"

My team was winning, 3 minutes left.

Zebra.

Zebra not only disconnects you from the game, but also disconnects you from the servers as well. And I was starting to get the hang of it.

Well, Destiny may very well be the reason to find a new internet provider.

Don't see much difference between Iron Banner and the regular Crucible. Thankfully you get rep just for playing it. You don't actually have to do the bounties, though obviously they help.

Also that rumour about the gear giving 30 max light might've been wrong. It's upgrade path requires 6 shards, unlike the raid gear which requires 7. I ain't mad, tho, got me some Raid gloves today. Going through on hard some point this week - helm or chest from that and I'll be 30 finally  :D

Tried the raid on hard with my team, and holy hell no

There is a major difference between normal mode and hard mode;no respawns.

If you go down, you're down until that section of the raid is beaten by your team. The only way you can get revived is if you have the self-revive ability of a warlock. Otherwise, sit tight.

My team is made up of four 29's and two 28's, but the 28's would go down and like dominos we'd soon fall one after the other.

We obviously entered the raid door but we could only get so far through the fight with the templar's adds. We may need our 28's at 29. We'll see.

We ended up restarting on normal and we breezed through it. Unfortunately, all I got were shards and energy;I now have 18 ascendent energy and 60 ascendent shards.

Would love to use those shards on raid armor, but noooo

We're gonna end up creating second characters so we can run through this stuff twice and have that much more of a chance at getting useful loot.

Has anyone else noticed lag in the Iron Banner matches?

Got both weekly and nightfall challenges over with tonight, earned the Truth exotic rocket launcher from nightfall and now have the entire week of bonus EXP.

Don't see much difference between Iron Banner and the regular Crucible. Thankfully you get rep just for playing it. You don't actually have to do the bounties, though obviously they help.

Correction -  you get rep only if you WIN the match. And after a day of playing Iron Banner, good freaking luck at that... because your entire measure of success at getting rep is dependent on your teammates. Unfortunately for me, 8 out of 10 times my teammates are COMPLETE AND UTTER F***ING MORONS!

Seriously, why do I always end up with the dumbest f***ing players in my Crucible matches? Control, Skirmish, Salvage, doesn't matter - I get to be teamed up with stupid dipsh*ts who don't understand the freaking objectives of these modes. It doesn't help that all of the IB events have been Control matches, which half your team won't bother trying to take control points and instead go full kamikaze against all 6 members of the opposing team. <_<  Nor does it help that everyone and their mother is spamming auto rifles on the opposite team - seriously, don't bother bringing anything to the IB other than an auto rifle and maybe a shotgun because everything else won't kill your opponent fast enough before his AR mows you down.

Dying numerous times in a Weekly Nightfall does not frustrate me. Dying over and over during the Raid did not frustrate me. But the Iron Banner? I truly have never been more f***ing frustrated with this game till now, it's enough to make you throw your controller at the wall and say "To hell with this game!" I'm not joking here, there is no way in hell that I'll be able to get to Rank 3 of Iron Banner at this rate (let alone Rank 2) because my entire chance of earning rep in this event (apart from managing to complete several hard bounties) is not based on my skill, but is based on whether or not I get dumb luck and manage to have competent teammates to play with.

Really? Did they ninja patch it in so that you need the shader and the emblem to get credit when you lose?

I agree on the teammates though...

Not just any assault rifle, but the Suros Regime exotic assault rifle.

I've been killed by that thing so many times now that I KNOW when it's the weapon that killed me even before I see it in the death screen!

Thanks for the advice…. but I think I am going to stick with the Sunsinger from now on .

My clan and I were all on last night so we were able to do the raid, we got as far as the end boss before we had to call it a night. I have to say that the self-ressurection power of Radiance is a godsend when running the Vault; way more useful than a couple thousand damage from a nova bomb, plus I get to have 2 grenades with this subclass.

While I have my subclass and powers all figured out, I do have some questions about which weapons I should bring to battle the Raid boss.

  • I have the SUROS Regime, but I feel that a weapon with heavier impact would do better. I can swap out my exotic auto rifle for an exotic hand cannon The Last Word, but I am not sure if that would be better at fighting the boss or not.

  • I have a void shotgun as well as a void fusion rifle, but I am not sure which would be better suited for my role of holding down the gates for the teleportation team to get out of the two portals.

  • And lastly I have a heavy machine gun and a rocket that both do solar damage, so I am not sure which one would be better suited for the fight. I would assume the machine gun since I can get precision damage with it unlike the rocket launcher.

Here is my current equipment: http://www.bungie.ne...9217874296#gear any advice on what to bring would be appreciated  :)

To my knowledge, not at all, because I've been wearing both the shader and emblem for the majority of IB and I get jack squat when I lose  <_< the shader and emblem only seem to increase the rep both if you win and with the bounties.

I do manage to get in a few kills here and there with my Red Death, but even with it's "regain health with each kill" bonus, 95% of the time I'm already dead from the jackass's auto rifle just as I manage to headshot the guy (earning instead a Postmortem kill).

Thanks for the advice…. but I think I am going to stick with the Sunsinger from now on  .

Yeah, Radiance will save your a** more often than not in the Raid, plus if you have Void weapons you don't really need the Voidwalker.

On your build, I'd swap out Solar Grenades for the Fusion Grenade instead - those things do a sh*t-ton of damage especially when you stick them to an enemy (works great with the the Gift of the Sun and having 2 grenades). I'd try to find a Void rocket launcher if I were you, solar damage isn't going to help with the void-shielded minotaurs and praetorians.

I did use Fusion Grenades when I unlocked them, but I don't know if they were bugged or over nerffed or lagged out, but when I would attach them to baddies, or even to enemy players in the crucible, it wouldn't kill them. In fact, I remember I had to stick an enemy Titan twice just to kill him <_<. I will take your advice and switch out my solar grenades though, maybe I will have better luck with them this time.

As for void heavy weapons, I haven't had much luck with the RNG gods lately. I would buy a weapon if I had the marks for it, but even then the Vanguard quartermaster seems to only offer solar versions of the heavies (at least when I checked)  :(.

*snip*

I knew it! I knew that damn Cryptarch was keeping all the good stuff for himself. Riot! Riot in the tower!

Also I've had ok luck with the Iron Banner. Three matches, first one was a loss, second two were wins. I totally got lucky with the teams though. That is the major problem with pvp, there always seems to be a high chance that one team will be utterly useless and not bother with the objective of the match and the other team will actually do what they're supposed to and you've just got to hope you're on the latter.

I swear the matchmaking puts teams together based on having similar k/d ratios or something, because it's the only reason I can come up with for why most of the time I'm on the team that gets curbstomped because one guy is hiding in a corner with a sniper rifle taking one shot every four minutes while the enemy repeatedly forces us to rush a control point to avoid instantly losing the match! ARRGH!

Plus the lag only ever seems to help my enemies. Last night in one of the matches I saw a guy I was shooting rubberband in and out of a glide three times. He should have died in the air on the first one when I was shooting him, he definitely should have died the second time when I was still shooting him. But no, third time he gets away into cover with a sliver of health and some git with a one hit kill fusion rifle gets me from behind. Mainly because most of my team was busy sitting at the side of Twilight Gap sniping at one guy on the other team who was bloody winning.

Somehow we still won that match. And I topped the scoreboard for my team. Even if we won, if I top the scoreboard for my team, my team played damn badly.

Ugh <_<  after losing yet two more IB matches due to incompetent teammates and auto rifle spammers on the other team, I pretty much said "f*** it" and swapped out my nearly completed Red Death (only has one damage upgrade left before being complete) for my partially ungraded Doctor Nope.... and I'm mowing the other team down left, right, and sideways now  :P

It also helps that my version of Doctor Nope has a "Perfect Balance" stability upgrade, which makes the thing ridiculously accurate (as such, I'm also getting good at headshots with an auto rifle, lol).

I still don't see how Bungie could make PvP so unbalanced and boring to play; auto rifles, and shotguns FTW; when their work with Halo is some of the best competitive MP I have seen in a sic-fi FPS.  :pinched:
