I completely understand why the highest levels of any PvE activity require pre-made fireteams - I really do. The strategy required to complete things like raids demands a level of teamwork not seen in other games.
My gripe is with bungie appearing to lock away all max level gear and max level upgrade materials behind the no-matchmaking wall again. There should at least be a chance for those of us who, most of the time, will only be able to play the match-made level of PoE to get some of the top-end loot.....and right now that doesn't appear to be the case.
Like you, while playing other games (Forza, BF) I have met randoms that I ended up e-friending and logging tons of hours with. But Destiny is different in that quite a bit of the end-game content is not something your average fireteam can blow through in short chunks of time (10-15 min start to finish) - raids can take hours, and based on the livestream of PoE, that appears to take quite some time to clear as well. For those of us with limited playtime any given night, that makes finding a random player to latch onto as a long-term teammate much more difficult than in, say, Forza, where you and an online buddy can knock out a race or two in 15 minutes then go your separate ways. I've got little ones in the house, and I work a normal 9-5, so I can only play in short spells most nights while trying to get them down to bed (and keep them there).
I've got no gripe with bungie locking away the toughest challenges behind the no-matchmaking wall, but to keep locking the top-end loot behind that same wall is sort of an insult to those of us who give all our limited game-time to their product. All I am asking for is a chance.....a chance to get some EL and upgrade my non-raid gear (since I can't raid) to max level.
