I would usually take Garrus and Ashley along on quests.
And other times I would take Garrus and Wrex, I did try to use them all quite a bit since I liked all the characters.
But I always seemed to take Garrus with someone else haha.
Which Sqaudmates did you use most in ME1?

It really depended on my base class and what difficulty I was playing on. If I'm not an Adept myself, Liara is almost always in my party if I'm playing on Insane or Hardcore, given the fact that Singularity tends to speed up those battles pretty quick by taking a lot of enemies out of the fight at the time (and they can't annoyingly spam Immunity either). If I'm playing a Soldier class or one of the hybrids with combat skills, I like to take Liara and Tali, given I'm usually able to "tank" for them. However, on my Infiltrator (since I prefer ranged combat on him) and on any non-Soldiers, I almost always have either Wrex or Ashley. Garrus makes appearances as well here and there. The only character I never really take is Kaidan, since he's not very useful to me.

My main Para (Male Infiltrator): Liara and Wrex.
My main Renegade (Fem Vanguard): Kaidan and Garrus
Ashley gets Virmired, every time. The chicken footed thing (what was its name again?) gets its butt parked in the back corner next to the Space Roomba.

I found that going with a balanced squad seemed to work out best. My cannon Shep is an Infiltrator so I had 2 options for a balanced squad either Kaiden/Wrex or Garrus/Liara, I perfered the former.

I tend to prefer balanced teams as well.
- Infiltrator, I used Kaidan and Wrex.
- Adept, I used Tali and Ashley.
That leaves Garrus and Liara, who form a balanced team for a second infiltrator playthrough. Not to mention the double sniper fun.But since I needed a paragon male Shepard and the Engineer achievements, went with that team for the character. It loses some combat power in favour of extra tech power, though that is mitigated by Barrier as a bonus skill for more tanking by Shepard and favouring the combat skills first on Garrus.
I was running with Garrus and Wrex recently and they had some interesting interactions in the elevators. I still need to do a few playthroughs to get characters to lvl 60, so might choose based on personality clashes.

My first playthrough I pretty much stuck with Tali and Wrex exclusively. But now I've shifted slightly, in the playthrough I'm taking through to ME2, I used Liara and Tali the whole way. I figured "Hey, I'm a Soldier, Level 60, I'm rocking the Spectre X guns and the Predator H X armour, who needs extra combat support?" Tali kicks just as much ass in tech as I do in combat, ditto Liara for biotic stuff. Got all my bases covered.

This, I prefered a well rounded setup to complement my soldier, so it's Tali and Liara most often.

Played Soldier and used mostly Liara and Tali (in 2nd Playthrough only changed tali out when on Special-Missions for Garrus and Wrex). Both of them armed with a good AR dealt decent damage and where easily able to control any crowd you can get into. Hell, Liara is able to lift a ****ing Geth Coloss, you can't possibly be beaten like that. x.x

I like the balanced party, so I use whoever I need to get it, so long as it doesn't include Kaiden. Don't exactly know why, but I hate him.

I tend to drag Garrus around everywhere with me, and fill the remaining slots with Wrex, Tali, or Liara depending on what class I'm playing. Sometimes I take Ashley, and Kaidan pretty much gets left on the ship all the time.

I use Ashley and Garrus a lot. Though I occasionally have Garrus and Tali, Garrus and Wrex or Ashley and Wrex.
