One week and two days to go. One week. And my hard drive dies.

It's so funny it's not even amusing. I had five completed, level 60 imports ready to roll and they're gone :( I don't even believe it. I'm PRETTY sure I can get the desktop back up and running before ME2 rolls out, but now I have nothing to import. Utterly soul destroying! Any suggestions? Can I do anything here?

Spend hundreds of dollars on data recovery?

Go to computer shop and see what they can do? idk. Maybe you need to transfer data to another hard drive from the currently dead one. Who says you cant extract blood from a dead body lol.

get the comp back running

console yourself a few level 60 character and power run through the game to create at least 2 save games to import

Yeah crimzon, seems the only answer :\\ So infuriating though. The sheer time I put into them all, defined them all, stripped down to some console hacks and a power-run through only the more major decisions!

That sucks. btw its exactly 1 week, not one week and 2 days. ;)

Benefits of having a console is i won't have to worry about that, fortunately :)

Harsh reminders to backup everything important. Data recovery looks like your only option here. If it is at all possible.

Best bet is probably to play through one mass effect game if there's time so you have something to import.

Any advice on how to go about Data Recovery? Whats the fastest way of doing it, what do I need to do it? To clarify, the Hard Drive itself is ok, the OS has gone haywire, won't start and will require a full re-format. So technically, it's all still sitting happily on the Hard Drive but I can't get to it. I don't have another desktop to swap the HD into?

had to do it myself after I wiped my HDD clean  due to the Xmas "11 saves only" fiasco

only I am on 360 so I had to build my Shep up the old fashioned way

Ah, you're correct Ejon. My error, I miscounted back from the 29th, since that's when I get it.

No probs :)

As for your HD, maybe geek squad can extract the files from it? Wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm sure theres some way to get the files back. If you however go the route of replaying it - good luck. I tried that just because i forgot all of the decisions on my level 60's, and i got extremely bored right after my spectre status was given to me. I can't play ME1 anymore.

One large HDD, unpartitioned. This was a fairly new desktop, roughly two months old, one month on Windows 7. To say it's gone pear-shaped is an understatement. Windows 7 Repair option cannot locate the OS to fix, and it won't boot up. Clean format followed by reinstall is the only way I know of.

buy another cheap hardrive, (they arent expensive now) install linux on it (free) boot that harddrive, and use linux to recover the save files, format the windows drive, reinstall, move the saves over, and format the linux drive. POOF, not only is it fixed, but you have a second hardrive for storing ....... "stuff"

Sorry for your loss, my condolences. You have prompted me to back up my save games just in case, and for that I thank you

then you either need to buy a second hdd to install on or ask a friend/coworker to kindly hook it up on their system to get the data.
