I hate origin. You will never convince me otherwise.

Anyway, I am really hopeful for DA3...which would need origin.

I hear there is an offline mode...is this true? Is it a true offline mode? I plan to start origin in offline mode and uplug my ethernet corde while playing, therefore securing what little privacy I have left.

My only other option is to blackbeard the game, which I DO NOT want to do.

So, to recap.  Origin: real offline mode?

Yes, Origin does have an offline mode. Though the real offline experience means you really have to unplug your internet, because otherwise it will continually try to connect.

edit://
Though I have to say that Origin does not actually tries to spy on you in any capacity. All it does is run checks on your installed games (and only those games installed and run via Origin) that are in your desiganted Origin install directories.

There have been multiple independent tests that haven't found any Origin related activity outside of those set limits. It's not spyware.

It's still hardly working and sometimes bad software, but no mal- or spyware. Running it online will not effect your privacy in any capacity.

As stated above Origin has a fully functional Offline mode you can access at any time.

As far as personal informaiton is concerned it runs the same as Steam and other game clients in this regards.  I've been using Origin for about 2 years now and haven't had any security or privacy concerns.

Origin's offline mode is better than Steam's since, if you're playing your game while connected and happen to lose your connection, Origin will automatically kick in to offline mode and you just keep on playing.

There's a lot of FUD with regards to Origin being spyware. As Neofelis noted, it's not.

Not anymore anyway. There's still a lot of stuff they could do better, but since there is no way but to use it with certain games I don't think there's really an option. It also seems like a waste of space if all you're getting from it is EA games, especially if it is just like 1 or 2 games that you're interested in. Personally if I ever have to use it, it will be for Dragon Age Inquisition.

Just a personal experience I would like to share.

When ME3 came it out I got the collectors edition which as you may know came with the Javic DLC, while I was ingame I had my connection go out and well I was able to keep playing, the game immediately locked my DLC, and since my savefiles required that DLC, I lost access to saving/loading any of them which meant my only option was to just start a new game without the DLC.

Maybe this has changed since then, but this is not an issue I have ever had with steam.

If you run in "true" offline mode (unplug internet) then you can run SP with DLCs.

Good to know, if I decide to get the new Mirrors Edge I will definitely play it as such. As a whole I kind of just avoid dealing with EA as much as possible (not so much a boycott, just extremely tired of getting ****ed over by DRM for games I bought full price on day 1).

This sounds great. Although I do hope they fixed the whole "if your net/our service goes out your dlc (and saves) go with it" thing. That is my number one gripe: not being able to play a game that I FULLY paid for, just because they are dicking around over at EA corp.

This as put my mind to ease, thank you.
