Not another unnecessary Varric thread.
I liked him but I wasn't enarmored of him.
Bioware chose him to kind of tie things together in the transition from DA2 to DAI.
Yep I agree with this
Personally I was very indifferent to seeing Varric in the trailer, and I sighed a little to learn he is a companion. I also wasn't a huge fan of him in DA2; of course I did not dislike him, not one bit. But I never took him with me, at least not after my first playthrough.
I hope he's not a romance option, either, because that would leave me just one other guy. Of course, I'm also a little torn because I know a lot of people WANT Varric as a LI, and I want them to be happy, too.
I have the same opinion of Cullen. It's why I'm kind of hoping they go crazy and make 3 male romanceable companions (and 3 female as well, to be fair). It would kind of suck both the male romances were old characters (Varric and Cullen), but there's a pretty even divide between Team Varric, Team Cullen, and Team New Guy so why not just split the difference and go with 3? It's what they did in ME2, and it worked out pretty well. There's something there for everyone with 3; the handsome military man (Jacob/Cullen), the snarky old friend who's gotten a few scars since you last saw him (Varric/Garrus) or the mysterious and tragic stranger with a major in romantic poetry (Thane/New Guy), take your pick.

Well he was imo the only good companion in DA2 and also the only good thing that came out of the game.

Because he's the only thing that is worth saving from DA2.
Now that just irks me considering that they brought no one back from Origins to be your companion. Why are the DA2 companions given special treatment? Why does Varric continue on with the story, yet my Warden and his companions have to constantly sit it out?

Because DA isn't about the Warden. The more BioWare make that clear, the better for everyone. As for his companions: a few (depending on your choices) happen to be some of the most important figures in Thedas, so they'll return regardless.

Uh.... I don't see any DA2 companions that can be ruler of a country, the right hand of the Divine, the voice of the mages in Asunder, a mage who is playing a big hand laong with Flemeth and one of the three leaders of the Qunari ect. Also Anders returned in DA2 so nice try.Jerrybnsn wrote...

Oghren is my least favorite character of all games (including dlc), so Thank The Maker he's not the one to return.

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but, just like Garrus, he's a bit bland in my opinion.

In addition Varric is the mandatory token dwarf companion of the party, with a character concept already proven to work well and be well liked, and he still has stories to tell (like about Bianca, or filling the player about what happend with Hawke). No other dwarf character could work so well as Varric for what bioware wanted.

- he is dbest written companion in DA2
- he's loyal and a good friend
- he doesn't complain every 5 minutes like every other companion does

You think Varric is more boring than Sten??
I liked both, but yes Varric was more boring than Sten. Sten was awesome and at the time being our only insight into Qunari culture made him extremely fascinating

He is just too important of a character to not be a companion and he is just awesome
And I had a feeling Cassandra would be a companion since there was alot of questions about her involvement in Dragon Age 3 Inquisition

He also has alot of connections and is one of the best spymasters in thedas(storytellnig is not his real job) he also has access to the carta and alot of funds. So he makes perfect sense to be sought out by the PC.Mykel54 wrote...
Because bioware wants to attract both DAO players and DA2 players, so they are bringing back characters from both past games as tie in. If someone started with DA2, he or she needs some connection to the previous game, and one the most iconic and memorable characters of DA2 was Varric.
