Yup, they always camp down there. Javelin + both piercing mods was the way I countered this. If you wanna keep the Saber, you might consider using Drill rounds.
I didn't have too many problems killing them - I could still shoot through the floor (AP ammo), it's just that it's incredibly time-consuming.
What is the most optimal starting position anyway?
i remember doing a 23(ish) time without going for speed a while back. take what hendrix suggested though *(edit - gear/weapons)* and try starting at the ammo box opposite the lz. run either straight to the spawn at the back (either across the way near pillars) or the back left opposite your starting point. when you come back you should have los on the clean up under the control room.
it's terrible for speedrunning solo though
