I have been wondering that is it possible to create a swordsman who is fast, agile and skilled? This of course meaning the opposite of the "TANK" styled characters that go in with the heviest armour and can take so many sword strikes that it's almost like they were sticks and not real weapons with sharp edges at all.

So far I haven't heard of a game where this was really possible, which is weird because in a real sword fight it's most likely the faster one that wins since sword cuts equally you and your "friend" no matter how hard your opponent has trained his abs... Unless you were wearing plate armour of course... (Which was actually not too common during the medieval period, there just weren't that many people that could afford -or move properly in- that thing. Sure armies used them but it wasn't what you would call "casual wear"...)

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that there seem to be mostly Tanks in the game, but is there the other side of the coin as well? Wouldn't it be cool that when the dragon or ogre that your fighting agains attacks you, you could dodge instead of being hit dead on? Or when a soldier tries to cut you in half you can, instead of letting your heavy armour absorb the blow, move in his guard and immobilize the bastard with a precise strike?

And I know about the rogues, but they aren't really what I meant, (dual weapons and stealing, etc. etc.) What I meant was a warrior that doesn't wear armour (or only light armour) and fights with a bastard (hand-and-half) sword or a two handed sword going in fast, trying to dodge as meany swords as possible...

If there isn't, do you guys know why? Is it about balance or something? I really don't see why it couldn't be done, it would take some new animations but that shouldn't be too big of a problem considering what they have already done... This is not a buy or not guestion, I'll buy it even if there are only Tanks in the game like I have seen, but it sure would bring more into the game.

What do you think? Am I wrong and stupid or are there other people that would like to see this as well?
(Note: When I wrote this I was pretty sure that there wasn't anything like that in the game)

Try witcher or read Drizzt Do'Urden books...

It would be too hard to integrate such a style in an overall game with more then number :/P.

P.S.: I played witcher and read the books, so i know what you mean and feel ;)

Thanks! I will.
It's good to know that I'm not the only one that feels this way. And I do see the difficulty in it as well, but I don't think it would be impossible (I of course described the ultimate form of said skills and so it sounds more imbalanced that it would have to be...).

I hear you. I prefer that style of play as well; as opposed to the the "tank" style. I think that with the party system (3 other members to help cover you) and the (seemingly) multi-leveled customization and leveling process, you can make whatever type of fighter you want and have him/her be successful.

I myself, am going for a fast, dual sword, style of fighter (heavy influence from Drizzt Do'Urden).

The problem is that the two-handed swords we have are the much larger and heavier bihanders, so you don't have that same level of speed. Our "longsword" isn't a longsword at all, but much more accurately an arming sword.

Once the content creator comes out I'm planning a mod that will address this, adding a true longsword (a two-handed sword close to the "arming sword" in speed but with more power) as an intermediate between the one-handed swords and the friggen' massive greatsword (among other tweaks).

Incidentally, I prefer that sort of character myself. My main character in Neverwinter Nights 2 was a half-Asimiir female with INSANELY high Dex (I think by the time I finished Mask of the Betrayer it was nearing the 30s ;-) ) who fought with a longsword two-handed and wore mythral mail. Her Parry skill was so high she could block EVERYTHING that came at her; I could turn it on, sit back, and even against high-level enemies she would never take a hit (that was the only way I could beat Lorne in the trial by combat quest, lol!)
